The model kits remind me of all the DBZ video games. I think it’s the way the faces look with the eyes being separate pieces it makes it look more three dimensional but in a CGI way while Figuarts look like mini statues that look like the anime while still being three dimensional. I think it’s also the lack of any paint detail that gives it that look.

I can't speak for the rest but the ssj4 goku and vegeta are among my favorite in the line. While he isn't my favorite character, Cell was my favorite build so far. Larger figure and love the way they did his black flecks in his body.

At first I really wanted the Krillin cuz I never got the Figuarts one since I mainly collect Figuarts for DBZ figures and I didn't really want the Goku all that much. But now, after seeing a couple reviews, I really grew upon wanting Goku as well so I will get the DX set of both Goku and Krillin some day in the near future

Just to warn you, and I didn't learn this until after the review, but the DX set has lighter colors and skintones. It's apparently their powered up modes. The single version of both have darker gis and skin that apparently match other figures in the line better. I'm half considering getting them at some point.

You should definitely go back and pick up the ones you've missed. I'm really enjoying this line of model kits. The SSJ4 Vegeta and Goku are actually 2 of my favourites, especially because you can get them in the fusion pose. Before any of that though, build the rest of your kits. You're missing out on some amazing display pieces.

I Find it interesting that when I order Bandai kits from Japan, they are never sealed in plastic, but at my local hobby shop, they're eithe wrapped in plastic or have two plastic bands around them.

Nice figures. Have never watched Dragon ball Z, but they look great. I really like the extra hands and effects you get with them too. Though that does make me want more extras with the SW model kits - maybe a droid popper grenade, a few different hands for the clones (pointing, relaxed hands) maybe one of the rotary cannons etc... 🤔😀

True, but there is also a lot more detail and intricate parts included with the Star Wars kits, along with more colors for sprues. Not justifying it but it does feel like the DBZ kits are easier. Plus this is the third or fourth time we're seeing this Goku mold, and Krillin reuses some parts here and there.

I'm like 99% certain they released a standard goku as one of the very first figure rise model kits. Its the one with the front shirt in 2 pieces

I think that may be a larger scale kit. The first releases in this line were SS Goku and Frieza.

I think the DX versions have slightly lighter colors than the single packed ones. Not sure about the Goku or Krillin but I'm only saying this because the Vegeta and Trunks DX kits are brighter than the Vegeta and Trunks that were sold separately

the box art is a CG render of the model kits. also there are no more "unreadables" on Bandai's model kits, everything is there translated into English. and as you probably noticed the color of the plastic in these DX sets are slightly different than the individual releases of these kits.

Love the reviews, hope you will check out the Dragon Stars line. I have to say, I am not a fan of these model kits. I purchased the Super Saiyan Goku and Frieza kits, and I wouldn't recommend these. My Frieza did break at one of the arm joints almost immediately. The best thing about the model kits is the effects that they come with. Other than that, I'll stay with the Figuarts and the new Dragon Stars figures.

In all honestly you can mix both figuarts and figure rise. The models are a bit taller but with some clever posing you can make them fit. There not that much taller then the figuarts so with some fighting pose you can probably make them fit. hell the model kit frieza is actually to scale with the figuarts. id say pick at least one up just to try it. Trust me you wont be disappointed. since your worried about scale, Id recommend picking up the new scouter vegeta. In that point in the show he was really short (shorter then in the rest of the show) and in the figuarts line his hair makes him look a little too big. But I think he could be perfect for the figure rise. Plus you did say you wanted a normal vegeta.

Hope the decals don't lift! Seems like they're on smooth enough of a surface but if they do some decal softener/setter can help as a quick fix!

Robo that's awesome how you go over little details like those ab peg/joint placement 1 and placement 2 positions! These are really cool if I didn't already start Shfiguarts (mostly Super characters except I have a season 3 Young Gohan) then I'd probably wld have already got into these. As I mentioned to you in a previous comment, I DID get the 1/8th scale Model Kit version of plain Goku. About 7.75" tall I believe. 8" at top of his hair. So he's a BIG boy! I kinda feel like it would be easy to collect all the Dragonball model kits from the Standard line rifht now so it is tempting. Have you messed around with the 8" versions? The biceps have this bulging gimmick as you bend in the elbow, it bulges up like he's flexing. Really cool stuff can't wait for androids review when's that coming? 😂

I think some of the parts are reused from Gohan. When they do that they usually leave some of the reuse sprue in there too.

theres a similar thing going on with the trunks kit. his pants are the same as gokus, so they just took the molds for goku's gi and made them black instead.

David Nguyen so far this year I've gotten every release and I have a total of 10-12 And I'm still missing a bunch. The ones from last year won't get a remake for a while. Not everyone has a thousand dollars to drop on 16-20 figures... IMO
