You also left out that if you level a priest or mage to 20, class change them to the opposite magic class (mage to priest, priest to mage), and level to 20, you can then class change a third time to sage. Many people don't know this!
@Shaztopia12 жыл бұрын
ah true, thought I implied that when I said they can change class to 20 (any time)
@evannichols30432 жыл бұрын
@@Shaztopia1 I was saying that (at least for the NES), on DQ3 a priest (or mage) can class change to a mage (or priest if a mage), and then to sage in that order (priest->mage->sage or mage->priest->sage)) without the use of any items. This also allows the now sage to pre-learn spells from both classes and gain extra attributes beforehand.

@@evannichols3043 Ahh sorry I didn't read yours close enough. So you can level a character to level 20 mage and 20 priest and then they qualify to become a sage. That is cool. I find that at the end of the game the sages are weak and often get killed in a couple of hits by stronger bosses.

One thing to note in the GBC version: Having a thief is _detrimental_ if you plan on collecting the Monster Medals. If your thief gets a steal at the end of battle, it overrides the roll for a Monster Medal. It doesn't matter for the other versions, but it's something to keep in mind.
@Shaztopia12 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip, I didn't know about that one. GBC is my top favorite version for DQ III actually.

Personalities are actually only selected semi-randomly, and seed stat bonuses influence what is chosen. Everything falls into a stat category and a secondary category that is decided on a few factors, mainly what is increased second-most. When these are "input" by choosing which stats to increase with the starting seeds, it then randomly chooses from a pool of personalities based on class. For example, a cleric that has stamina be the main boosted stat will be first sent to the Stamina category, and then checks for the secondary deciding factors. In this case, it's the Stamina bonus being greater than 11, then the same bonus being greater than 6, Wisdom being second-most increased, and if none are met the personality is chosen from an "otherwise" category with a larger pool of miscellaneous personalities. For this example, our cleric was filed under the third of the listed categories due to having a +3 to wisdom on top of the +6 to stamina (other stat increases like a +2 to luck or something doesn't influence this current situation). Then it chooses from three or four options depending on gender, which are Kindly, Meddler, Defiant, and Sexy. It gets even more complicated with other stuff within the system, like the Agility tables, with up to five different categories and up to 19 possible personalities within all of them. It's certainly still random, but it can be manipulated to your advantage to get good or bad personalities, based on what you want. It's a bit of a tough-to-wrangle difficulty selector in a weird archaic sense, even a 5% modifier to a stat growth can make a character's stat array look different by endgame. How the Hero's personality is decided is more straight-forward but is a completely different system, I don't have the time or comment space to explain that here, and you can easily find a chart online to help you get to the desired personality

Just for future reference, a Fighter is almost always better than a warrior in every way. The only think they lack is a large HP pool. They have amazing attack and crit chance and believe it or not, base Armor in DQ3 is determine by the Agility stat which Fighters get LOADS of. They often have higher armor than warriors in late game. A common tactic for veterans is to have a Warrior and Fighter in the party and simply swap them when you can change jobs. Or Fighters into Sage for great attack and great spells.
@MrVariant2 жыл бұрын
How is fighter good end game with weaker claws? Pyramid is great early game if you endure the 1 step encounters, and of course a good budget class. I'd just make my fighter into a warrior, or have one become a gadabout whistle for metal slime grounding and have high luck, and then a sage. Not sure why anyone would use mages past oomph, which would support even a warrior to get stronger and have acceleratle to be faster. Merchant/thief are kinda decent to start for faster gold/drops but obviously get power crept where even astrea's abacus can't catch up. Sexy/vamp glad vid mentioned personality as it helps a ton for stat growth.

@@MrVariant "How is fighter good end game with weaker claws? " Their insane crit basically nullifies any lowered attack but in the remakes Dragon Claws and Beast Claws provide a nice attack bonus.
@MrVariant2 жыл бұрын
@@maglen69 beast claws is post game, which was really tedious but you also mentioned dragon claws which need a ton of mini medals, equally tedious. But thanks for explaining as I see why my martial artist with golden claws tapered off when my oomph warrior was doing (and enduring) more damage. Halving again from a gadabout could help with crits and have sage support as a martial artist, but it's a gamble to keep changing classes. Though merchant's dig with a lot of luck from gadabout/martial artist gets rich as I got over 10k once or twice with a lot of tries.

One important thing to note is that, when you get to the part where you're asked if a merchant can help build a new town, it's better to offer a newly created merchant rather than one you've leveled up from the start since that character needs to leave the party in order to do so.

I would go with knight, cleric, and fighter. The fighter has good agility and can do a lot of damage, really more damage than the wizard can do. The cleric learns most of the magic you'll use, and you can turn him into a sage later on in the game so you can get some black magic spells.

I've played this game so many times that I've started doing all sorts of random starting classes just to shake things up. One time, I accidentally made a part with no magic users, save for the hero, which made me super anxious to hurry up and reach Alltrades Abby so I could reclass someone to learn healing spells. Another time I made a starting party of only three characters instead of four, which basically ended up being the equivalent of playing on hard mode.

Hello, I have a question; Would it be silly to convert a Gadabout to Sage? When I created my Gadabout I put everything in Intelligence so that when the time came to convert it into Sage I would have a lot of MP. I don't know if I made a mistake or if there are better ways to get the most out of a Gadabout.

The only good reasons to recruit a Gadabout is to make them into a Sage or have a fun challenge playthrough lol. That's their special ability, that they can change immediately to a sage when switching classes. No other class can switch to a sage without a Zen scroll.

Female Hero *Sexy* Female Thief *Sexy* you can choose to reclass Thief to Fighter, but seed farming is easier wit Thief, while Fighter can score RIDICULOUS damage. Both high speed, high defense classes. Thief has relatively poor offense but has great utility for mob clearing. Female Warrior/Merchant/Thief => Fighter *Sexy* I choose Merchant because “YellHelp” is actually useful for healing. Fighter is better than Warrior Female Cleric *Smart* => Sage (whenever you want, I personally do it after my Cleric gets MidHeal, so I have a SUPER high MP stat on my Sage & I can skip extremely tedious reclassing) Try to get a Starry Bracelet for her I try to avoid too many reclasses, because grinding is not fun at all
