This is one of my personal favorite songs in Dragon Quest. On one hand it’s imposing and serious, snapping the player to attention and preparing them for a difficult fight. On the other hand, it’s bouncy and fun, mirroring how exciting it is to go up against a challenging foe and to be able to use all your strongest abilities. It’s the perfect blend of everything you’d want in a boss theme.

I don’t feel the bouncy or fun with this one. Instead I get a serious, intense fight to the death vibe. Especially effective with the earlier boss fights in the game where you are likely underlevelled, low on gold/resources and the battle is tense and challenging. Having recently replayed this game, I didn’t think of many boss fights as “fun”, at least until the last 3/4 of the game. I think it’s the horn melody/hits in the composition but this always reminds me of classic fight music from Star Trek TOS, call me crazy!

The difficulty spike was insane! It was smooth sailing through 90% of the game until then, and then I just got wrecked...

@@dswrabkln4900 not only that, but all the bosses after (except orgodemir obvi) were extremely easy to beat due to all the grinding it took to bring the cumulus rex down

@@chasegreen237 I'm making a playlist of all the battle themes from the Dragon Quest series. I put all version of the same theme next to each other in release order but I don't want to have to keep looking it up so I'm commenting it in the video to save time.
