Super glad the algorithm gifted me this gem of a video from a smaller channel. Thank you for your detailed explanations of what you're doing so that even someone who hasn't played the game since they were a child can understand with ease, super well made. Keep up the good work, king :)

Awesome vid! So much work obviously went into this. Admittedly, I never finished DQ8 when I played it for myself (I think I stopped shortly after Dhoulmagus), but I love challenge runs in general and understand enough of what's going on to follow. Plus, I think you made everything pretty clear as it is. Sure, reliability is a "problem," but like...reliable strategies in battles where enemy RNG is involved are always gonna be hard to find. Idk why people complain about that. Anyway, my only "complaint" is that there are a few moments throughout where I thought your voice was a little hard to hear vs the music balance. That being said, I'm really glad for your candor about savestates and attempts and how long something like this takes in general. I think it would be nice if people were a lot more open to understanding that kind of discussion. Good luck with anything else you do, man.
@Easssae2 күн бұрын
I think I know exactly what part you're talking about with the music balance. The songs volume changed by a lot in the section that I wanted to include and I balanced around the quiet beginning, but thinking back to it I could have simply used keyframes to lower the volume. Thanks for actually giving feedback (and good one at that)

This is one of those...."I'm curious but i ain't doing that myself." Good job and the speech at the end hits different as the skeptics make things so rough for challenge videos.

Great work and explanation of how this run works and the hiccups along the way. I played through DQVIII a few years ago for the first time (on PS2 rather than DS) and I loved it. One of the things that was far different from other RPGs I played was how important levels were and how long it took to earn them. I finally completed the game, along with the post game to get the true ending after reaching the upper 80s in levels, so seeing the gaming completed at such a low level is pretty awe inspiring

Peak Ignoring the Rapthorne sized elephant in the room, the run was simply fantastic and does really go to show the point of these low level runs. My favorite part from all of the strats is just showing how many enemies can be inflicted with some sort of status. It can be so easy to in any rpg just write status moves off as bad with how often bosses resist if not end up being immune to them where the action economy is just better off not attempting them in the first place. Barely leveling Jessica high enough to get one of those to in return remove all the challenge from some bosses is really cool. Then there's stuff like getting two monster teams before Dhoulmagus which is always cool.

I was reminded just now of some strats that Sulla and T-hawk had used in their Solo runs of FFV.

Hello! Good job! Well done! Ja, ein "legendäres" Spiel...also das PS2 Spiel (für mich persönlich)...Nostalgie pur! Yes, you cannot hide your German accent! But that is completely irrelevant! Who really cares about your accent when you speak English! A wonderful game!

dragon quest has always been a grind heavy series. it is the jrpg that kinda created the whole infamy on the genre, even if you compare it to the earlier final fantasy games, you will see a drastic diference. with some FF games even allowing no leveling at all like is the case for X. its still a great franchise. i just wish it was a more tactical game, with less time wasters and mandatory grinds.
@EasssaeКүн бұрын
it really varies a lot. 11 can be done at base levels and it's not thaaaat difficult. DQ2 or the original version of 4 are awful. I'm not too informed about FF, but the ones I played were the same as in they varied. 8 can be done with no grinding while the early ones are kinda grindy
@marcosdhelenoКүн бұрын
@@Easssae not really, if im not mistaken, FF1 can be completed below level 10. X can also be completed without leveling. not only that, but no spheregrid(the leveling system in FFX) is a popular challenge run. 8 is another that can be completed with no leveling at all(there's even an achievement for it) .

Find it funny they still people accusing other player to cheat, when by this point pretty much every RPG you can imagine have been run in Low Level Challenge, I also love how this kind of challenge grows popular enough, that some game dev deliberatly gives option to disable EXP entirely in their game weither through in game option, ability or accessory which are clearly option given for player to challenge themselves.

I'm wondering if Rhapthorne would be made possible if we measured the run in total experience earned instead of levels, thus making it possible to give the Hero the experience sometimes (I didn't run the calcs, maybe Hero gets to lvl 15-20 this way, and Red and Morrie never leveled anyway. Maybe it'd be enough to get the health to survive a single hit from Rhapthorne). Still, if what you want is challenge then I guess that takes away from it a little bit. Anyway, I certainly learned a thing or two about this game as I really only ran the PS2 version of the game (probably didn't play it for like 10 years at this point), and it's very cool to see two whole new party members. Makes me wonder if Dosh toss can trivialize the Dragovian trials (specifically that dark metal dragon form). I already asked a friend to borrow his copy of the game, so I'll be making a few runs shortly. I hope nostalgia's gonna work its magic :)
@Easssae3 күн бұрын
It's an interesting idea. My gut feeling is that those levels aren't nearly enough to close the gap, but there's also a bunch of seeds you can find naturally. So maybe if you allowed the use of seeds, just not ones that are farmable, then it might just be possible. It's a different run, but could be interesting to look into (I'm not doing it though, I've spent enough time on dq8 to last me a while)

with theses edited challenge runs and speedruns people are only seeing the successful runs most of the time. I rememeber Sulla going over the first real Exdeath fight battle script in FFV and most character lose 2 out 3 fights from the first attack due to being hit with condemn which puts a ticking clock over a solo characters head. The attack returns for first phase of the Final Boss alongside White Hole an attack the is both instant death and petrifaction. He stated on his solo Monk report that he lost 7/8 on the first phase alone.
