Dragon's Breath Damascus Steel, making a blade.

I combined three well-known techniques of creating Damascus steel and got the fourth one. The drawing is called "Dragon's Breath". Blade design - dragon wing.

When he's grinding the blade down you can see the insane callouses on his finger tips. And by the speed he turns and hammers at you can tell he's been doing this for a good long while.

I've seen the tuning fork trick. Still not convinced it works, but the theory as I understand it, is that you are orienting the grain structure and banging the carbon atoms back into the center of their steel cages.

Yeah bud when I used to work in a plastic container factory, for things such as bottle bins/skips, grit boxes etc, when they first come out of the mold from being melted and cooled. I could barely touch them for a few seconds but after a few months the hands become accustomed to it. Not that you probably didn't know that just saying it incase some people didn't know. Wonderful looking damascus.

Try it with pipe screens, the fine mesh would be interesting to see if pattern shows up. Plus they are stainless steel

I just came to the comments to see if anyone could shed some light on the tuning fork as well....I was thinking maybe he would hear a certain note when the metal was at a particular temperature. Gonna keep looking and see if I can find out.

If you twist a rubber bar, it will flip back. There is a same force in the twisted steel bar. He needs to release the force so that the final piece won't break easily. The tuning fork is to check out if the metal structure is released enough. Sorry for my english

I've been watching your work for a while now and I have often wondered if you know ahead of time how a pattern will come out or do you just get an idea and see how it develops? In this I am referring to the damascus pattern, not the style of blade.

There is a guy in Florida that has begun making true damascus steel. He mined iron ore from one of the local mines where original damascus came from and made his own steel from it and then did the forging. The stuff most people are doing these days is damascus pattern forging/welding.

With all the technology available today in powdered steels it seems is should be possible to come up with something better than the original mines had, but still, I see a lot of videos using things like rice straw and some kind of pine charcoal, a sprinkling of laurel leaves or whatever. Were they smarter? I think Mathematics came from the Middle East at some point in history, but today that area is like, um, "not exactly". What is the mastery of thought? A man can forge steel, but not thought?
