@@RexuhntOn the fun side, the Magick Archer in DD2 is actually the Elemental Archer from DDON. The Elemental Archer also lost its dagger skills and was placed as a Healer role. HOWEVER, it had some amazing changes. For example, Seeker Bolt became its default attack. And in later patches, Seeker Bolt had two modes: Multi-Target and Focused-Fire. Multi-target worked the same way, you can select and target multiple enemies or hit boxes. The Focused Fire instead releases ALL of our magic shots at one area. So you could swap between firing 6 shots at 6 enemies, 6 shots on 6 spots on multiple enemies, or 6 shots on 1 enemy/spot. There was also the Magick Eye mechanic which became core. That is, when you charge your shots your targeting reticule would fill up with runes in a circle. When you released your shot right when your reticule was filled, you released the shot dealing more damage, but it also speeds up your next charge. So, finding your firing rhythm was important to rapidly cast your spells. Also, the healing shots were super useful. And my theory, Magick Archer is going to be a questline from the Elves, as in DDON, Elemental Archers also came from the elves. With how amazing the spells and changes to the Elemental Archer, no on really missed the dagger skills.

Dragon's Dogma 2 will be something so special, the first game is a (not so much anymore) hidden gem that it still amazes me that we are getting a sequel even aftyer so many years.I wonder if they'll adapt the system that lets a romance with almost any character in the game

Yeah, I wasn't aware of the romance system in the first DD as well. At least not until some random merchant was kidnapped and stated was my lover... I was surprised and wondered how the hell did my character fall in love with this person? I didn't even remember the NPC. I hope this system is better in DD 2.

Yeah, it should be a little more involved. Friend and Romance metrics should be isolated from each other. Maybe friendship gives discounts, and Romance does other stuff.

Ah, Dragon's Dogma. I remember buying the first game on a whim the week it came out, because I was in a Gamestop and the cover looked cool. It quickly became one of my favorite games of all time. I bought a PS5 last week, just so I'll have it in time for the second game's release. Part of me kind of hopes they'll keep some aspect of the wonky romance system (aside from the ability to romance children part), because it led to some hilarious scenarios in the first game!

The developers have already done a great job at creating the gameplay with strong fundations and the core story could be great if it's handled skillfully. They only need to make sure that the players have a clear understanding of the way these romance metrics are going to come into play within the actual game. After this, there would be the other issue of "actually making this work within the story." In DD1 there wasn't actual "romance" between the main characterr and the npcs. If they allow people to romance their pawns then I at least hope there is a predetermined path you have to take in order to make it happen naturally within the world; after all, pawns are not normal people with emotions as we do, (not initially). Sellene from the previous game could be a good example of how to make a romance with your pawn believable, though it was through a clunky and rushed execution of events in the end. If they were to try that again then I would like it to be integrated as an option early on and make the relationship with your pawn insteresting, beyond giving them commands.

The word "gaol" is pronounced "jail". I didn't know that either until it was pronounced in Elden Ring. I'm super looking forward to this game, namely using the mystic spear hand.

Gaol is an old word for the word jail, they are both the same thing and pronounced the same. I had never heard the word until I saw it in Bloodborne.

I can't wait to play this game when it comes out. I wonder who My Arisen shall be, a Human Knight, an Elven Ranger or maybe a Beastren Mage. As for my pawns, probably an opposite gender/race/class from my Arisen, or maybe a bit differer from my Arisen.Too home I will romance as either the four possible companions that were introduced in that trailer. And I do hope that Dragon's Dogma will expanded on the character customization , fast travel and maybe both the story and romance could be improved of it.l.

the game developer said in an interview with ign that the reason why they are not focusing on fast travel so much this game is because they want players to discover all the hidden things they have set out in the world of dragon dogma 2 but there way to fast travel it just very expensive put it like this you can do the main campaign and finish the game quickly and miss a lot of stuff and play the game again or allow your self to get lost find puzzle mystery's hidden loot hidden boss there even a hidden sphinx in dragons dogma 2 that is hard to find but will test your mind and skills and reward you with unique loot there even unique monster hidden all over the map plus the game is 4 times bigger that the first game the put out so just let yourself have fun get lost enjoy the game until dragon age dread wolf comes out which will most likely be fall thats a long ways away well enjoy

As someone who gave their Arisen's Bond to Madeleine without knowing that it doesn't guarantee a locked in romance and ended up getting the out for herself mail order bride, I hope they refine the romance mechanics so that it doesn't do that weird, last person whose affinity you maxed out is the LI. That said I hope DD2 has a better post dragon game, I don't really care for how DD1 handled the story after Grigori is beaten. (Spoilers ahead) I don't care for the fact that everything revolving around the Duke is overly dramatic overacting, weather it's said mail order bride acting like you forced yourself on her right after you save her from being strangled to death, or the Duke himself turning the entire guard against you, which lasts all of five minutes because if you talk to the guards after returning from chasm, everything's hunky-dory. I also didn't care for this idea that in order to get to NG+ you have to off yourself while you're the Seneschal, even though your next Arisen faces your previous one as the Seneschal. Even though that Arisen should be dead, and their pawn living happily ever after as a human now. Whole thing is fucky, not confusing or convoluted, just a lot of loose threads that weren't tied up very well. Also as someone who last year beat Kingdoms of Amalur: ReReckoning and the Fatesworn DLC, and just last year beat DAI and Trespasser DLC, I'm kinda exhausted with the whole, "Thanks for saving us, now exile yourself or we'll kill you." trope, I hope DD2 has better endings.

The Arisen's bond doesn't lock them in as love interest though, it only maxes their affinity. If you're unlucky you could gift someone the ring and still end up with someone else.

Yeah, that's what sucks about the whole thing, they should've made it so that the Arisen's Bond guaranteed the person you gave it to is your beloved in the game. Really it just made the whole quest with the Arisen's Bond and the conversation with the Dragonforged completely pointless.

If you give it way too early and you interact with that other NPC, then that affinity can override the affinity and you can end up with someone else. So if you want that chance, make sure to speak to that specific beloved last and give that arisen bond before you start that Deny Salvation.

@@hp2546 True. The timing is most important. If you give the ring to the character you want right before doing that quest then you'll most likely get them. However if you happen to have another npc at max/high affinity and mistakenly talk to them after the other person before doing the quest you'll likely get the wrong npc. Depending on who you want it's also not always so easy since some characters like Valmiro and Mercedes will leave the game after a certain point.

I do hope they have given more meaning, and depth to a romance system. It is a interesting immersive mechanic, if done, thoughtfully and authentically that provides the player with an added care towards the game world and it’s inhabitants. Like connective tissue. So I would hope that it has a mass effect or dragon age, origins, or Witcher or bg3 approach. You can always tell when the system is implemented as a checkbox in a superficial disingenuous way. For instance, Bethesda does this and Ubisoft as well with pointless dialogue with no meaningful interaction or true believability and/or pathetic fade to black screen if even that. If that’s your approach to this mechanic, then don’t even have it in there. You don’t have to go nuts, but be authentic with your approach and with the mechanics interactions n implementation otherwise it’s nothing more than a waste of time and resources. Anyway, will be curious to see what your follow up video on this topic discusses/points out jackdaw

In DD1, there is a way to make sure not to romance a merchant by accident. If the arisen bond does not fall from the sky, turn off that game. That way, your arisen's loading point can start from the inn. I always sleep at the inn before doing Deny Salvation just in case of mistakes. Always make sure to have a do over.

DD2 will not be a deep RPG. It’s an action rpg, think of dark souls or elden ring, story-wise it’s RPG elements are more akin to fable.

No. It's only human or beastren, but you can give yourself elf ears though. You just won't speak the language and you'll be treated as a human. Considering your amnesia you can probably make up a story that you're an elf or half elf that was raised by humans..

I would hope DD2 even allows the arisen to become homewreckers. In DD1, my arisen would prefer to choose an NPC that is already married. For example, in the 1st playthrough, I steal Mayra's husband which makes my arisen the mistress. That will make my arisen bisexual because she had previously had sex with Aelinore. Then on the next playthrough, I steal Merin's wife. That will make my arisen a lesbian and make Mayra bisexual. In DD1, Mayra and Merin is also considered to be the arisen's next door neighbor. They even have a son. Best of all, even if any of them cheat, they still consider each other spouses. If I steal Mayra's husband, Merin will still call Mayra his wife in the post game. If I steal Merin's wife, Mayra will still call Merin her husband. This proves that every married couples in Cassardis is ok with open marriage.

But you will have characters that can reference other characters regardless of gender. To give you an example, look at who is taking a similar military job as Mercedes. That man in 7:58. That black man right there can look like he can take Mercedes' spot. I mean he already have the same military position as Mercedes. 7:31. That woman is going to take on a job similar to Quina. 10:17. That woman has similar appearance as Selene except she is taller. 9:15. That guy seems to be the guy dressing up like the innkeeper Asalam.

Just fyi Quina is pronounced Keen-ah. DD1 only ever says it out loud like, once tho, so I get it. But yeah on that note I was lucky enough to end up just having Aelinore as my DD1 love interest first time through instead of someone completely out of left field. Always liked the rescue mission sidequest to complete it for her. Ever since learning aboutthe system, I had aimed for Mercedes each re-release tho. Hoping things are a little more lucid in DD2 if they make the attempt.
