In this Dragon’s Dogma 2 Review I will be sharing my experience following my extensive time with the game after completing it, with over 100 hours of gameplay time. There’s a lot of talk online about the game’s performance, and I have played the game on all 3 platforms Xbox, Playstation and PC, so we’ll be getting into how it plays on all 3 a bit later in this Review. How did the mouse and keyboard feel to play with? I haven't played the first game but from what threads I’ve read most people say the first game was playable but just a little clunky when dealing with UI. Is that the same for this or have the devs made settings for us MKB? Would getting a controller give me the best experience?

My dude, I see two options here. Either you are an incredible RPG gamer with a deep understanding on gameplay mechanics, or you must live in a Hyperbolic Time Chamber. I can safely assume the first option 😂 The amount of detail and information you can dash out in a pre-launch video, with over 100+ hours of gameplay and an already well developed wiki page for us noobs, it is just outstanding. On behalf of all noobs, newcomers and gamers with full time jobs not related to gaming, I'm truly thankful and very appreciative of the dedication you have for these games. I've waited so long for a second Dragons Dogma. I absolutely loved the first one back in the day. The exploration, the enemies and the western medieval / high fantasy setting with the japanese touch (especially voice over). I like the straight forward story and feel like having dragons as enemies is never getting old. I can't wait to run into way to strong enemies, dying and coming back later, better prepared and even later absolutely destroying them. Also, a big tall Beastmen with a Two-Handed Sword is already a win in my book. Thanks for the review. This seems exactly like what I wanted. More of the same, but with better menus and such. @@hyperion5175 Exploration is way better compared to Witcher 3, as Witcher 3 has very basic not really rewarding open world. Storywise Witcher 3 wins for sure. It's way more in depth and focused on story after all. Skyrim exploration might be better, but the enemies are scaling to characters level there and I found that to lessen the exploration. Dragons Dogma seems to have more rewarding exploration in it's open world that has you on edge more. Especially at night. Never seen a game with better Nights than Dragons Dogma 1 :D Only my opinion ofc.

If and when you get done playing dd2 try outward, very much like this, less “big” monsters but it’s vast open world and only 30 dollars regularly. Definitely a lot of fun. Oh and you can play with one other person. Just one, but it’s fun to play with friends.

As someone who was in love with the first game, I'm more than happy to hear how great this game sounds. I've never been a stickler for fps, but I can understand people being upset by them not following what everyone else is easily doing. The first game was a hidden gem when it came out, and now it seems like this one will be a contender for GOTY, but being barley outshone. Which is fine, more people need to see the amazingness that is Dragons Dogma! I'm curious if they're gonna do something similar to Dark Arisen, but I'm already more than happy with what they've given now!

I started gaming as a kid back in the 20th century so 30fps doesn't bother me at all (especially not in an rpg). It would be nice to see all of these games hit 60fps but we're obviously not there yet and it's slightly annoying to hear this same round of whining with almost every major release.

It got worse when 3D games released on consoles, but PC players were playing Doom or Quake at higher refresh rates. Being used to 30 fps is fine, but it just means that you didn't play on PC, not that you're an experienced veteran or some shit.

Fextralife (just like Fighting Cowboy) won't tell any of you about PC performance in all honesty 100% because it's garbage, even on the newest cpu/gpu PC builds, already confirmed by many reviewers. They are all saying the same complaints, across different PC builds including 4090s paired with the newest Intel/AMD processors. Capcom shoving Denuvo + Enigma programs into the Steam PC version ruined it all. Stop supporting and excusing this nonsense. DLSS3 didn't help much at all. Have fun with this dumpster fire.

I think this was a fantastic review. Very good with giving us the details that will be issue for some (not me I could play call of duty on a toaster and still be happy about the frame rate) but also being open and honest about the things the game does well. I’m really happy that you mentioned new game plus as this was my personal favourite feature of the original dragons dogma I still wonder if they kept gods bane from the original game I loved making different choices on different play throughs and eventually finding ways to cheese the game and make my character ridiculously over powered again this doesn’t ruin the game it only adds to it I always play it as intended before I go and dissect every piece of the game with only 2 days until release I’m practically brimming with excitement.

A little bummed its the same exact monster roster from the first and that it gets a little exhausting fighting the same 4 smaller types . .

If it's like DD1 then the smaller types give a much higher proportion of Discipline Points that you need to rank up your skills. I killed them en masse and quickly moved on.

Excellent review. Fair, unbiased and informative. I especially appreciate the section on framerates, this was a huge concern for me as I’d read rumours that it dipped as low as 24fps on PS5. I can deal with 40-50. Because of this review I’m going to go into this aware of the issues, and I thank you for that.

You should look up the ElAnalistaDeBits comparison. For some reason Fextra thinks the Series X performs worse than the PS5 but actual readable data show the Series X has better framerate pretty much all the time. Like I said in other comments, Fextra is a very pro-Sony site by the people who work there. I guess it makes sense that they said the opposite of what was true.

If you’re worried about performance I’d wait for Digital Foundry’s review of the game. The framerate was dipping pretty badly in the game preview from 2 weeks ago. And 40-50fps doesn’t look great on PS5. That means a lot of screen tearing in game

Just found it on the wiki. It's straight garbage, and you can buy it for cheap at a vendor. "A ring that finds frequent use among fledgling adventurers. Slightly boosts the wearer's Defense and Magick Defense."

Hearing these reviews, I think the only true disappointment I have is the lack of variety of monsters. Based on the marketing, I really thought this would be the game to NOT constantly recycle the same monsters throughout the world

@@StewNWT Cause it's like a 14,000-some page series that's been out for decades and people have read numerous times? Also, it's just a bad show even ignoring the details. People get over changes when the end product is unimpeachable (look at the dune films. They change A TON). If people are nitpicking, it's because your product wasn't good enough to get them to stop nitpicking.

"This is the GOTY that should've been, but likely never be..." I can totally understand this after seeing several reviews :') Regardless, as someone who highly enjoyed the first game even with its shortcomings, I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy this the same. Hopefully, they'll add more hardcore elements, more enemy variety and gameplay time in a coming DLC.
