Fabulous angle. Gonna miss this dragon. I was literally on my way home from a DL trip when this happened, weird to come home and find out everything's gone to heck when it was fine the day before.

At the end, why can't Mickry just run backstage? Why does he need to use the stage lift?

One of 2 reasons. Either to protect mickey from getting hurt ( smoke , tripping , fireon costume. , inhalation ) or so it looks like he dissapered out of nowhere on to the boat

Safety reasons that I think are quite obvious

Because they don't want him being burnt alive by a flaming dragon

Because it's hard enough to see out of those costumes during the day. At nighttime on a dark stage, the performers are completely blind in there. That's why the costumed characters who don't use a lift have handlers that guide them off stage.
