To be fair, the value of shock steels is not so much in edge retention and abrasion resistance, but rather in toughness-- their ability to flex (they have bend tolerance almost as good as spring steels) and surviving sword-on-sword impacts (when heat treated correctly, they are second only to L6 bainite in impact resistance in commonly seen sword steels)

Good review. I looked at this one and ended up baying the Z-Sey S7.

I think you did a valid job on your review young man, It's hard for me to agree or disagree with your assessment on it needing to be 200 less without seeing some more detailed close ups and more discussions on the Koshirae and fit-n-finush although the damage to an S7 blade alarms me and the Saya is a pretty abundant and common design, understand though at 540, your not going to get a very well made saya as in more expensive swords but nonetheless it should have been more unique, I give you props for speaking your mind and your truth. the response from the company was un called for in that manner

Thank you, I really appreciate it. With that "200 dollar" comment I was saying I would rather have this sword made in 1095 and sold around the 300-400 range. I just meant that I wasn't sure if the S7 is worth paying that much for if they could've offered similar blade properties and tsuka quality for less with a more conventional steel. Thank you for the support and advice!

@@JuardianK I would suspect most of the price is in the blade.

Great job on the review. Im with ya on the saya. I cant stand a cheap saya with an expensive sword. At least put nice bullhorn parts on it,then it wouldn’t be so bad.

It's nice seeing a more formal style review from you. My only suggestion would have been, if possible, a close up of the cutting section of the blade that got dulled by the ice. Like, showing the scratches along the side of the sword was more impactful than just talking about it. Doesn't seem like a bad sword, just perhaps not suited to harder targets. Perhaps another thing to add to future reviews (because clearly now every blacksmith needs to send you one) is the ease of sharpening, if that's something you ever notice a difference on?

Really good points, I did have a closeup shot showing even more scuffing after the ice but I felt I may have already said too much about it. The blade went back to paper cutting after some stropping but never got near shaving sharp. I think it's something with the profile and would need a proper whetstoning to adjust it. I didn't want to do anything major because I may give the sword to someone else. Thank you for the tips!

You should cut a few used tatami mats. You know just about anything with cut a water bottle.

Great review. You are very generous with your opinion. I have to agree with you that it is very attractive. That's about it. The sword they sent you remarkably has a good tsuka. I paid extra for a tight ito with Hishigami, got a loose Ito with Hishigami paper exposed. My blade looks like they picked it out of the garbage, sharpened it and sent it to me for $530,00. I'm not going to be as generous as you in my future review of Dragon Sword

@@JuardianK I have never done a review video before. I have been working on it for about a week. I'm trying to get better lighting. This can't be kept to myself. People need to see this before they get burned. Dragon Sword makes there swords look great on video.

10 out of 10 for evident integrity and honesty in this video. The way the company responded is unacceptable. I am NOT a sword person, give me a khukuri or tomahawk every day of the week and twice on Sundays, but you deserved better treatment. As well as a better sword.

When you say the draw feels smooth like it has rails, does the katana fall out if in the saya and its upside down?

A sword getting scruffed and scratched is 💯 normal, if you whacked a stump with an authentic tamahagane blade it would do the same thing 👍🏻

@@samuraibyrd I'm thinking maybe Dragon Sword is shady. I had to message them through KZbin to get their website. On their website hardly any information on the products, no contact information. I thought it was a representation of their confidence. Boy, was I wrong. Jordan gave a very generous review. If his review upset them? Wait until they see my review. I asked them to send me a new blade. They said it would have the same problems. A good sign of not giving a rat's ass. They are going to wish they sent me a new blade.

oh no i got a s7 steel katana and it has bad edge retention and abrasion resistance😂 bro what did you expect lol it’s a steel known more for toughness and when it comes to steels there is always a give and take lol if you wanted edge retention and abrasion resistance should’ve gotten something in 1095 DH 💀
