I'm a professional guitarist, teacher, and musician for over 30 years, and let me tell you, this is god level talent. I've seen a lot of live stream jam sessions of people playing together, but many of those are with people who are familiar with the songs they're playing. Herman went into this blind and was able to kill it never hearing the song before. Remember this is live streamed so there's always a slight delay between what is seen and heard on the live stream, which makes it even more remarkable how well they played this. Being able to figure out the key and timing, tempo, everything. Just truly Amazing stuff!

aaaand that's what we call musicianship my friend. Being able to play by ear is such a great thing to learn how to do, because it allows you to do stuff like this. I'm a self-taught drummer, and learned how to play by ear from my dad, who played guitar/bass and sang. We would just jam together and he helped me learn how to point out where to crescendo, decrescendo and generally just play with dynamics. We were in a band together, and that taught me a lot too. The term "follow my lead" is huge, and literal. For example here, TheDooo is the obvious lead, and even though he isn't giving Herman any vocal queues on what to do next, Herman is so knowledgeable about the instrument, he can hear what key TheDooo is playing in, and then can turn that into listening for queues in the music itself. What breaks does TheDooo take at this moment in time? What type of strumming pattern is he doing? Mind you, this is all happening within seconds as they play. It really is awesome to see happen live, and never fails to impress me when you know two or more people are so skilled at their craft, they can just play around with it and not worry to much about messing up.

You can tell that this whole collab is a dream come true for both of them really. This is so well deserved by Doo. @@TheCasper025 To be fair, Charles (Through the Fire and Tap) did try to defend bass... by playing the vocal lines of Through the Fire and Flames like Davie did, and like Davie, did not at least try the solo/duet section. They didn't have to play the Herman Li / Sam Totman solo/duet. They could have done an original solo, and I would have preferred it. I do like Charles. He's pretty classy. He also did a few interesting things in his rendition, slapped the intro part, but still, no solo/duet part. Twenty Second Songs tried it, messed up, and is interested in getting back at it. He freaking attempted it. The Doo played it. KMac played it wrong... expertly wrong. Junna knocked it out of the park on drums. Alejandro Sayago did the duet part... on a freaking recorder

no, most of us dont have the discipline to practice the needed amount for this level. pretty much anyone who is not physically impaired could do this, even if it took them 30 years or more.

Dream Theater's guitarist John Petrucci and the bassist John Muyng have a good story about that. They made a promise to each other that they would practice at least 6h a day and I mean every day. Then when they were in a party they would like signal to each other that they had practiced, and if they didn't see each other they thought oh he must be practicing.

If you practice with purpose, even something as simple as scales nonstop, you will most definitely go beyond what you think you can do. Natural talent gets you so far, every impressive person you see has put in more behind the scenes than you think.
