DragonOS Focal OsmocomBB GUI + Mobile/Cell_Log/Ccch_Scan Usage (C118 Motorola, BladeRFxA9, YateBTS)

This video covers a few things included in DragonOS Focal not previously mentioned, to include a user contributed GUI for OsmocomBB that starts up and runs the Mobile, Cell_Log, and Ccch_Scan apps after it flashes a compatible phone. This was all performed on an internal GSM network and all info sent to Wireshark is from that same network. Any transmissions OTA need to be contained in a faraday cage to avoid interfering with existing networks. Using just the Mobile, Cell_Log, and other OsmcomBB tools are typically passive in nature, however, creating your own GSM network is not.
I highly suggest going out and looking for more info on OsmocomBB, because this video just touches the surface on a few apps. It's a project that's been around for awhile and so there's many videos on KZbin and info online elsewhere about the software.
For this video I used the c118 Motorola phone and the lastest DragonOS Focal. Everything needed software wise is included as shown in the video.

Hi, i ran into an error with the mobile app. If i want to start it, there is an error message which said: failed during gsmtap_init(). Can you tell me what i can do to get rid of this?

Are you trying to use the mobile app on its own without doing what I was showing? If you’ve started up using the GUI and made it as far as scanning and looking at one arfcn, you should be able to open that final window and copy and paste the setup for Wireshark. I’m not sure at what point you’re having a problem :/

@@cemaxecuter7783 no, i did what you was showing in the video and after that i was trying to open the mobile app. I started the motorola and did the command you had written to open mobile. I spelled exactly. But it still failed during gsmtap_init(). I

@@msfu9929 if you’re following along and you see the osmcombb terminal open up as in the video when I put in an available earfcn that’s seen by the other apps then the mobile app is already started, it’s actually actually started and backgrounded. Are you saying that part is not working? Or are you saying after all that happens you’re unable to open the Wireshark piece?

@@cemaxecuter7783i put in an available earfcn and the osmocombb terminal showed up as in the video. The wireshark piece is working, but the window which i opened where i put in ./mobile -d DCS:DNB and so on was throwing that message. I can‘t copy the whole command because i‘m not at the pc. I hope you know what i mean 🤞🏽

That command has already occurred in the background, it’s why the osmocombb terminal is open and usable. You can’t open it again if it’s already running. In that case you would want to run it all manually. Look at the s cript that starts it all and you’ll see where mobile is being executed. I think it’s just that you’re trying to open it again while it’s already running in the background.

I don’t have this added but it’s probably pretty easy to install. There’s Universal Radio Hacker and Gnuradio installed, so between those you can probably accomplish what you need. If not, check this github.com/0xDRRB/hackrf_ook

@@cemaxecuter7783 Im kind of new to the whole OOK FSK thing. The creator of that program did not give a good detail how to use it with URH or where i can find the parameters to insert. 433_rtl is the only thing he cited and i can never figure it out :(
