Күн бұрын

Barbara and Richard Simpson-Birks were directly contacted and bombarded by "the chap that invented this magic fluid". Barbara and Richard are seeking £250,000 in return for a 10% equity stake in 'Tattoo Erase'. This product is the first of its kind to market but will the Dragons want to get into bed with the couple after they crafty negotiation tactics are exposed?
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

There's something fishy going on here. It costs clients £1000 for the procedure, the website is apparently receiving 8000 hits per week, and the phones are ringing off the hook, yet they only had a turnover of £10,000 in the past year. So they've had 10 clients over the course of the year?

Secret fluid it's nothing more than sour milk. I've used this method of tattoo removal for over 45 years. Just tattoo sour milk into the skin where the tattoo is. It scabs over pulling the old ink out of the skin. It certainly works but the work needs to be heavy to enable a thick scab to form. So don't forget there is no secret solution its just nothing more than sour milk.

The dragons definitely let Barbara off of the hook for over-promising the opportunity of the business and blamed her husband for delivering more realistic answers that they didn't like. She led them to believe they were buying equity in the worldwide patent/business. She led them to believe the response and interest was higher than it actually was. She said they owned 100% of the patent when the fact is the German inventor owned half. They should've gone after her for bamboozling them.

There is a reason the tattoo laser removal folks cant set up stores exclusively for that purpose without offering other services, far less people remove tattoos then those who get them and most the people who get tattoos don't regret them.

People are more likely to cover up old tattoo with new one rather than removing it. There is a small market for removing tattoos but with the trend being that everyone and their mum gets tattoos its getting more and more normal to have one, therefore the need for removal is even smaller because most people who remove tattoos do it because they have it in "innapropriate" place for corporate world. And the more normal it is to have one the less need for this is.

Legit question: Why is Simon getting heat from Rachel? It’s a legitimate technique to put in half the fund with negotiably good equity returns and also lowering the overall risk. I do believe that the shared-investment tactic was not a new thing in the Den even at that time. Then why is Simon getting “put your money where your mouth is” barb? He likes the product/idea, he just wants to invest at a position, he’s comfortable with.
@lizclegg7556

Yes, Simon was perfectly reasonable in deciding the level of risk to take. The only thing I can think is that it was the first series of the programme, and maybe the dragons felt that they needed to act up for TV to give the thing a bit of drama.

Well like someone already said here, he was the one singing their praises while everyone else was super cautious. So in the end if he believed in it that much, he should have pushed all his chips in. But instead he was mad at others that they didn't back the other half of his pipe dream with people that were withholding info and figures. If someone starts out lying to you, how can you trust them. Also, if you were paying attention, you would have heard him at the end saying that they would have asked for more money for them to buy into the global rights. They were hoping to get someone to buy into legit just launching what she thought was going to be a franchise. All the while if they bought into just the UK market, they could still let someone else lauch franchises in another region. All the while getting two paychecks (one from the franchises and one for the patient)

Good to see friction between the dragons, who often seem smug and occasionally domineering - for example when they demand that an entrepreneur or inventor gives up the day job instantly regardless of what expenses and commitments that person has. Doug Richard came alive when defending his question and he was right to push for an answer. I'm still not clear what exactly the duo were offering and the husband seemed equally confused. Fun to watch but not a great pitch.
@OpEditorial
@OpEditorial 3 жыл бұрын
The pitch was all over the place, Barbara started out confident, then got derailed, tagged Richard in to help, he proceeded to mumble and then became needlessly argumentative when questioned about the actual details. Rachel tells Simon to put his money where his mouth is. Considering she bombed a few years later and Simon still has Yo Sushi and various other ventures, I wonder who's advice is better. I find on these videos Rachel has such a bad attitude compared to the guys. Like, here she starts with 'Are you going to show us pictures of scabs now?' with disdain before she's even seen the product or heard anything significant. How she portrays herself on this show fits totally a story I saw reported on her in the Rotherham news approx 2010-2011 when she swanned through a cafe and acted very high and mighty and entitled.

so how would the 50% patent ownership work? Do they give the German inventor a royalty for every client? Just the fact that she insinuated they owned the entire patent, and that the offer was for worldwide rights - I consider her dishonest and would never work with her (not that I have money so that purely hypothetical). I also felt like the husband was weasely and admitted at the end that he would have insisted on more money for worldwide rights had they made a deal - so they were actually only offering Simon the UK, but made it seem like worldwide. I do think a product like this will have huge demand, especially if it’s cheaper and less painful than laser removal or the other method of disrupting the skin down to the dermis and applying a caustic substance to break up the ink into smaller fragments. Hell, that substance may be this fluid just used in another, very painful, manner.

Wanna hear a joke? An American starts yelling at his calm and collected British colleagues. Wait. You have heard this joke way too many times. No wonder the show ditched Richards for "Im out-Jenny". His arrogance is absolutely unbelievable. True arrogance, not staged arrogance like some of the others. If I had to make a pitch, I would say straight off the bat "Hello, my name is ********. Oh, Mr. Richards, you don't need to pay attention. Working with you would deplete my sanity. Ok, with that out of the way, for the remaining potential investors, I am asking for 200K for x% equity..."

@@baobo67 what gave you the expression that Nigerians are very dark. That's prejudice and you should never categorise everyone based on their nationality. Of course, I will not exclude the fact that some Nigerians are shady, but its applies to every country. Good and bad people are all over the world regardless. As a Nigeria, I have strong moral ethics and honest.
