To simplify; It's WAY too overproduced. We already Know who are gonna be the front runners of the season (Jimbo, Kandy, & Jessica), and because production keeps pushing them, it leaves other girls (Heidi, and Kahanna) to end up being robbed. In addition to this, because they keep focusing on the front runners, they don't focus on anything else (cast relationship, relevant storylines, etc.)

Because Darien wasn’t cast with anyone compatible for her to be herself. They always cast 2 or 3 each of like minded Queens who can turn a story and play off each other. This is the worst casted group of Allstars. They really screwed up cuz it’s winding down.

yes! i also why i personally like having a lot of queens from older seasons. sometimes it feels like someone gets eliminated in a regular season and they just go “it’s ok i’ll be in all stars” then you see them a year later and i find that it’s usually the same thing you saw a year ago. whereas queens from “older” seasons have changed/grown a lot and there is something new to see and learn about them

Another piece that's missing for me is the deliberation between the queens. Normally we see a lot about what everybody is thinking, and their relationships. With that missing it's like, "okay everybody walk off stage, and come straight back to lip sync" ALSO I'm hoping they stick Kandy, Jessica, Jimbo, and Alexis together for the snatch game so we get queens who didn't gets to do it and queens who did good the first time together.

I think you're spot on. I'm having the same reaction to season 8. For me it's the basic (regular season) challenges and the level of performance of the queens on those challenges. This first episode lyriscs, vocals and choreo were (for the most part) so bad, it didn't feel All Stars level at all. At least half of the cast didn't really glow up all that much. It's more like a continuation of their original season. Okay, now I gotta go watch episode 5, because all my chores are done for the day... LOL

Since I’ve become a drag race super fan, watching a large chunk of the various iterations of the show, this is the first time EVER that I’ve legitimately forgotten there are new episodes each week. Even with stuff like UK season 3 that was a hot mess I was still excited each week because I mean it was entertaining. SPOILERS AHEAD If the spoilers for Ep. 5 are true, then this is is the final key the producers needed to justify crowning Jimbo. When early spoilers surfaced, everyone said that Heidi quit because of Jimbo’s favoritism. Now we know Heidi quits because she wants to (in a way) protect Jimbo, and get away from all the fake alliances. I’m almost sure that starting from Ep. 5, the edit will do a full 180 on Kandy and give her the full on villain edit, showing her as the fake quern, with Alexis right behind. THIS will be the turning point for all storylines in the rest of the season, with Jimbo being the hero, the queen who is a threat to everyone else but who can’t stop feeling insecure of getting eliminated bc of what just happened in UKvsTW. Kandy and Alexis will become the villains and the rest of the queens will just become motors to their storylines. In this way, at the final 2, Jimbo’s win will feel much more “satisfying”. Think Rolaskatox vs Jinkx or Silky vs Yvie. I’m just hoping that production won’t be that harsh editing and showing the drama. I don’t exaaaaactly like Kandy, but I’d really hate to see her receive any hate for what’s coming

Ep.5 will be the final nail in the coffin as it basically establishes Jimbo as the hero of the season, coupled with the fact that she’s coming into the finale with 4 wins AND a Lipsync win as well so basically the crown is hers already, the other top 2 queen is just not gonna win lol especially when she’s already not liked by the fanbase and then ep.5 happened. I’m not surprised that the rumors were fake either, they came from an unreliable spiller on reddit and Heidi + Jimbo are like besties irl.

I believe overall the best seasons are the ones which happen organically, and the worst are those when production is forcing storylines/placements a lot and/or trying to emulate manually the best seasons. I'd say AS8 is the flop we thought AS6 would be, but could have been avoided also this time if production had done their job right. It really feels like they have already chosen their final4 and it's unpleasant to watch.

I also feel like this season is not entertaining enough, like the challenges are very mediocre, the queens aren't performing to their best capacities, and there aren't enough funny moments throughout the episodes, like I find myself watching a scene and I'm like, wow, that was the most boring conversation I've ever heard, like not everyone has to have zingers and lines but I feel like everyone is being hella reserved, or that's just what they're showing, but so far, this season is very forgettable, and I can't believe I'm even writing this when we have Alexis, Kandy, Jimbo, Heidi, and Lala on a season, like what is going on? I think there is a loop-hole to sue productions like this when they interfere with the "reality show", I think we can sue them for false information and things not happening organically. they are so scared of losing control of the eliminations and what fits their pre-planned storylines, they are scared to get rid of people they casted for the season, they want their first picks to make it far, while they cast people to fill up space, making them feel devalued. could you imagine if RuPaul didn't rigg and give wins for storylines to manipulate other queens into thinking they did bad when they did good, I think we can sue for emotional manipulation Aswell, if we all come together, and support these queens, maybe there will be change.

A twist for AS9: The bottom 2 chooses among them how is going to lipsync (DRAMA!), then the choosen one lipsyncs against the winner. If the winner wins the lipsync, the person who losts the lipsync is the eliminated. If the queen on the bottom wins, they are safe and the queen who doesn't lipsync is eliminated. This way, if the winner does a bad lipsync, it looks like they wantes that person to loose, so the winner will have to lipsync well one way or another.

I think part of it is that they completely removed the post-judging workroom deliberation from the episode and chose to focus on the challenges and critiques. Those post critique deliberations were a huge part of the storylines in past seasons and now that they aren't a part of the actual season it seems rushed. We go straight from challenge to critiques to lipsync and elimination without much time to breath. Yes, I know they are not apart of untucked, but they shouldn't be because the majority of people (IMO) don't watch untucked and now we are being forced to watch untucked if we want to get any kind of story. Imagine Alaska's "I'll give you ten thousand dollars" not being a part of the main episode and instead being in additional content.

spoilers for ep 5 another thing that’s been huge is that wins are not spread out like they were in as6. by the top 7, 5 of the queens had wins (rajah, TKB, kylie, jan, and ginger) but for as8, only 3 out of the 7 girls have wins (jimbo, kahanna, and jessica). i feel like if they rigged it so maybe again like 5 queens had wins at this point (maybe like heidi ep 4 and jaymes or alexis ep 5) it would feel better. and this was a big downfall of as5 was that only cracker and shea and jujubee were winning. it also doesn’t help that jimbo won this ep and both kahanna and jessica landed in the bottom two bc now it feels like jimbos the clear winner and no one else is really doing that well.

to really shake it up they could do teams again but with All star queens vs New queens who have not been on any season who think they're coming to compete on a normal season, recruit the all stars and the new girls simultaniously(spellcheck lol) to see to it the queens don't know. have the all stars be told on entry as they do their original song and then eliminate nobody, do the same with the other 8(8 vs 8, double opening?) then merge them and have some kind of system with the bottom 3 always being from the same side even if the winner is also from that side and allow the top queen to save one of the three from elimination to make them have to play against their own. then at top 7 you simply terminate the team aspect at snatch game and move on to a top 4 smackdown

I understand drag race is a competition reality show but the overproduced manufactured drama from a show thats based on an art form based in love, self expression, acceptance, artistry seems kinda gross. Overall I think the voting element has to be done away with or changed. It takes away part of the joy intrinsic in drag. And it really is a mind f*ck for the contestants because these performers work with each other constantly. Plus, I feel like it's made the toxicity in the fandom worse. Also, no shade, but it takes away some of the prestige of being a winner when perhaps the top drag performer didn't win their season. They won because they played "the game". IMHO

I was so into Jimbo in her original season but it’s clear she will be pushed until she gets a crown. I would love to see Dida or Jayden come back but I am worried production wouldn’t know what to do with them especially if there is a queen being pushed. Whenever Peppermint comes back, I feel bad for anyone competing against her. She is truly talented and amazing but she is a queen with a crown on layaway, I don’t like any season where I can see the winner from the promotion.

part of me definitely feels like the season would be more entertaining if the challenges were more varied, the premiere was lowkey a ball with the three fame related looks broken up by a music girl moment, the snl parody was just awkward without a studio audience, then another ball, and another loosely scripted acting challenge... every week we're asking the queens to dive back into the same bag of tricks which definitely doesn't help the show feeling rigged

If there's one thing I agree 100% on, is that production is handling the talent show weirdly. That's a challenge where you want most if not all of your cast around, otherwise the vibes become like fuck the eliminated queens' drag, right? Then again if we don't get a talent show this season, I'm personally upset that the format is migrating from the All Stars seasons (i.e. showing what TV seasoned queens do best) to the regular seasons (i.e. showing what queens do outside of the show with little knowledge to how it'll translate on TV.) I don't like seeing clearly talented queens in the bottom because they didn't understand how the cameras and time constraints would fuck up their show, I prefer to see queens showing what they do successfully!

Selling All-stars 8 like my life depends on it! Here you go!: 1. It does have actual redemptions that aren't manufactured. Kahana, darriene, Jessica, and Jaymes 2. This one's just my preference but I like all the lypsyncs, and I think episode 4 could have been Jimbo's rudemption for lsfyl 3. The casting is phenomenal, while the elimination order seems predictable that's because of the level of drag half the cast posseses. 4. While some of the top placements are wonky, none of the bottoms are unwarranted 5. I do think there are emotions , Heidi being the main example, but also darienne, and Monica. And "there's always time for kindness." 6. The cast is eating the challenges up. They are actively doing amazing. 7. Production is meddling, but that doesn't always make a bad season. All-stars 2 is a great example of that.

Also regarding "Coconuts" Naysha said at the viewing party that if she was a lip sync assassin and you heard one of your sisters had the chance to win 30k that you’d probably just do a little shuffle so that your sister could win, and the other queens agreed. She said especially as the lsa doesn’t get paid there’s no real incentive to try and win the lip sync other than your legacy.

It’s not like other all stars/regular seasons where they think something is going to work so they stick with it (maybe make some slight tweaks) and as they are filming the next season they stick with the format before the other one airs. This gives them no time to think of bigger ways to change stuff but this all stars season they have no excuse. They saw what happened with AS6 and knew the complaints and they had a whole year to figure it out since AS7 was a different format. If anything this feels like what was filmed before AS5 aired and they didn’t know the fan complaints more than AS6, which is the best All Star season IMO and top 3 seasons. Idk how they regressed when they saw what worked and they know fans are over their heavy handed editing that’s been so apparent since the move to VH1 then MTV. You can see that only three seasons have really worked (meaning it’s almost always at the top of the list with minor complaints from fans). Season 9 because it was the first season on VH1 and they filmed it like the previous seasons with the lip sync for the crown twist (only worked then because it was the first and the girls set the bar to an impossible height) Season 12 because they had to completely re-edit the season and it showed more of the girls (for better and for worse which sucks) but it’s still regarded as the best “modern” season of drag race and AS6 because let’s be honest, no one had that high of expectations going in because you had 3 of the most polarizing/“loud” characters ever on the same season and then a bunch of queens who weren’t the most popular. I’ll admit when I saw the rumored cast list and then read the spoilers I thought that the season would be the end of the road for me watching drag race but it made me interested again. I think they realized they had a lot of underutilized queens that the fans would love but they didnt learn how to portray them correctly besides AS6 (exceptions here and there)

I'm enjoying this season, but probably because I just really like the queens, but likewise I reaaaally don't care much if at all about season 6? Like, I was happy to watch mainly Trinity and Raja every week, I had a blast with Silky's episode, but other than that I barely remember anything from that season at all, I had way more fun with the pitstop than with the actual season itself? I don't even remember who else was in it

i don’t understand heidi not winning the ball. it would be a huge redemption with her main critique on season 12 being runways and makeup. low hanging fruit for a good story line and good episode and they just ignored it

I'm really liking this season exactly because of the strategy. I feel like is the most strategy-based all stars since season 2, but I have to say that the riggory has been wild. I love this cast and I really hope this season improves it's flaws

I largely disagree that the season isn't engaging. I personally love the drama of this season. I love that Jessica Wild is getting appreciated after so many years. I love that there is strategy. I don't find that every season needs to be RuPaul's Best Friend Race, especially for All Stars. On top of that, I'm not sure you can argue that the queens are being told to throw their lip syncs when only one queen has won their lip sync against the assassin.

I just really think the fandom puts wayyyy too much thought and conspiracy theory into production. It is a produced show because it’s television. I promise you that you do not want a show that is not produced. It would be a chaotic mess. Are there hands seemingly too heavy at times, sure. But pointing out things like Raja isn’t trying?? I think to her it was clear that Jessica had the room dying in laughter from the beginning. She knows if Ru is laughing then it’s over and if she knows she isn’t fighting to really win anything, she instead just looked cute and did the job she was booked to do. Like look at things outside of always just blaming production 🤦🏽‍♂️. I’m not just saying you as the person who uploaded this video. I mean ALL of the RPDR fandom.

I doubt they’ll ever really ditch the legacy lip sync, but I’d love to see the bottom two lip sync FOR the jury vote. They can change the lipstick names into like a dramatic button each queen has to press to keep up the cruel drama, and the jury has to compare whether the queen won the lipsync or their talent lies elsewhere and they deserve to stay.

I was kinda excited for this season cause the cast was interesting to me, not the most popular queens from the show.. but idk there’s something a bit off, honestly I feel like that with all stars since the fifth season (except as7 which was incredible but not a "regular" all stars season) like the challenges are a bit boring, the drama isn’t dramatic.. and as usual some of the placements are choices… I hope the next episodes will be better and to quote Ru "meh"

It must really suck for the assassins because if you think about it, not an all of them are from LA.. so imagine supposed to lip-synch that day and the story line ends up needing a different queen. So then they’re having to stay an extra few days for their picked opponent or just random queen to go against. That’s why it almost doesn’t seemed rigged. At least with the other seasons. Like this, well it’s blatant. 😂

I think an interesting format could be to have the top two lip synch for the win then have 3 in the bottom each week, the winner gets to SAVE somebody from the bottom 3 and then the bottom two lip synch for their life I feel like it could create some good dynamics plus both sides I feel like would fight more for the win, not only for the 10k but to save somebody in their alliance or their friend etc.

I swear the only bright spot in this season has been Jessica. I’m not invested in what happens with any of the other queens (especially after Kasha got eliminated) except for Heidi, and she’s being overlooked and buried in her edit to push Jimbo. It’s such a shame this season wasted so many underrated and underappreciated queens just to try to make up for how much one specific queen got “robbed” on her original seasons.

The themes of almost every AS season are redemption and reintroducing yourself, so it kinda confuses me they don't get to fight for themselves. I would have given my life savings to see jiggly lip sync on AS6, TO JANET TOO. They want it so bad, and it would be so nice to see, especially for someone who may have fumbled their exit lip sync. Except for Jimbo, please never let them on stage again

Every queen lipsynced on AS6 though (except for Akeria who refused) which ended up being Silky steamrolling through most of the cast to try to return only for Eureka to end her winning streak

This cast is so good, and I see some possible storylines that the producers could show, like the friendship of Kasha and Darienne that you said, or how Jimbo meet some queens (and didn't know much about others) on the cast before being from Canada, or the insecurity of the queens who were early outs in their previous seasons... If they wanted so much to show how some queens have grown, they should focus on how Kahanna become a better performer and improve her sewing skills a little bit (we can see it better than what the producers are trying to do with Lala), and how Jaymes is a more confident and seasoned queen, how Kasha is a good comedy queen despite so many people forgot about it. Lala is showing that she can do comedy too, and this is something that she wasn't good on season 13, what the producers doesn't want to show this to us? I still think this season is better than All Stars 5 because there's more queens that I like to see what they will do in the challenges, but it's so bittersweet know that this season has a heavy hand of producers trying to force some unfair judgments (it always happens, but in this season they neither are trying to mask it, feels like almost all judgments are rigged). I am excited to see you do an unrigging of All Stars 8 when this season ends. Congrats to the channel, I love your videos.

Drag race audience had grown so much over the years. Now with over producing and bizarre judging is becoming more and more unacceptable. That’s why I prefer those drag race when Rupaul and Visage are not judging. It’s more authentic.

Watching this on 6/12. Super "controversial" opinion I guess: I'm loving what kandy is bringing. It's entertaining. I love her confessions, her runways, and challenges. I'm also LOVING lala!! I will probably cry if she gets sent home. I am OBVIOUSLY seeing the jimbo favoritism (Joan rusical safe??) But I get it. I also totally understand Jaymes being eliminated. It's ENTERTAINING! We knew kandy wouldn't send home Kahana! I've just seen so much kandy hate in IG comments that I don't agree with. She's bringing the SHOW and I'm here to watch.

I think rajah is a great performer but only to certain songs. Coconuts just wasn’t one of those songs. I think she did genuinely try but it just didn’t work.

Agree 100% with the video, they put not much effort into the storytelling, which is what makes the show great. Even if there is riggory, at least tell a good story with it, or gives us a good rudepmption, good lipsync, good whatever. But none of that. Maybe they are tired, but honestly they could do so much more with this cast...

If they gave the lip sync assassins the money, it’d be a game changer. And actually HIRE the ASSASSINS who would do well on the song. I wish production would just stop and let the queens do what the want and eliminate who they want. If they wanted themselves to eliminate who they want, just do it with rupaul like on regular seasons. They shouldn’t care about who goes home or not because the queens will create drama on their own and the fandom will have a reaction regardless. What isn’t good is production is so obvious now that people are getting sick of watching the show. “Jimbo winning against Pangina? Oh whatever, production wanted it. Let’s move on.”

I also see why Naysha was so frustrated with the judging, they can't stay concise and discerning for one episode. This is All Star's baby, it's time to *stop* those false hope false pandering flip floppy critiques and start being real! Who cares about what those other ppl might think, this show used to be source of entertainment and a competition, now it just "reality tv" show with some underlying narratives.
