Drain Unblock Wet Wipes and Stones

Drain was blocked with wet wipes and also stones, managed to unblock with drain rods, on this occasion no worm jetter was required.

I never understood why people put stones near a manhole as if causes more issues than anything. Also it says on packet not flush down toilet but ignore it. Should have said to customer reason for blocked was wipes and explain that they are not degrade able.

Yes, I did tell the customer it was Wet wipes that caused the blockage, as you say, stones around the manhole is a nightmare

If i was you, i would ask people with stones around a drain this “hey the stones are badly soiled, do you want me to shovel them into a bin bag, or do you want to clean them when I’m gone?”.

I did offered to hose them done for her, but her reply was not to worry, the rain will wash it away

These guys go out to solve an issue that has occurred in this case due to the homeowners ignorance regarding wet wipes. Wet wipes appear to be the majority cause of blockages and if the sewage/utility companies don’t do something drastic to prevent the use of these, people will just keep on using them. I don’t see removal of wet wipes from stricken sewers being the attending drain repair companies responsibility at all, the problem lies at the original source……the customers door!

Unblocked drain and plugged it up again. I would have bagged up the surrounding area into a trash can

Do your customers have wet wipe denial? I’ve seen lots of them out right deny they use wet wipes when there man hole is full to the top with them

@@catherinefall2696 Many hundreds of wipes just went down from clearing the drain. A few more wipes from the cleanup won't make a difference at all.

Wipes have been going down for months, the 5 or so around the edge isn't going to make 1 jot of difference. As you can see he just gives the Windsor a quick poke and they are through into the main.

Wipes will go down regardless. If you plunge it, you are pushing wet wipes in to the main sewer run to clear it, as was likely the case here. If you use a jetter, you push even more down, just quicker. Only option is to spend far more time on site raking the sewage for wipes and bagging them, which in turn brings about risk of transporting and spreading disease. The incoming ban on flushable wipes should help stop this being as much of an issue to our sewage network, but doesn't get the water treatment firms off the hook for pushing shocking levels of e-coli and other infectious bacteria/diseases in to our waterways.

I watch quite a few drain unblocked they all put them back down the drain

@@janetsteingold-yt1xu If people have washed hundreds down to the point of causing a blockage then the last few being washed down isn't going to do any harm.
