Drain Your Bestway Above Ground Pool ALL THE WAY!

The Bestway pools are great and they come with just about everything you need to properly use them. When it comes to taking them down after the season, they even give you a hose adapter/valve that easily drains the pool...well MOST of the pool. The valve isn't on the "true" bottom of the pool, so when the water drops below the valve...nothing else comes out. This video will show you how to easily remove the water from a Bestway, Intex, or any model pool...ALL THE WAY!

OMG THANK YOU. I neglected my pool over the winter and it turned into a literal swamp and I couldn’t get that last bit of swamp water out to do a complete water change. You are a lifesaver!!

It should work. The benefit of this method is you don't have to start the siphon by sucking on a hose. Great for "swamps".

Many thanks for this simple explanation of how you drained the last bit of water out of your pool. I followed your example and it was so easy. I was dreading going into the murky last bit of water in my wellies to try and bale it out . A huge THANKS to you from the U.K

I actually drained my entire pool like that. Used a very long hose to go from my backyard to the front street and it went very smooth. Thanks for the video!!

You're right! There's really no reason you have to wait until the end to use this method. The entire pool will empty this way.

This video was a lifesaver. I got the siphon to start this way using the spigot, but i ran into problems because my spigot isn't near the low part of my yard. What ended up working for me was: 1) Fill my 2 gallon watering can with water 2) Stand on the 2nd rung of my step ladder and hold the hose & can on the top rung of the step ladder 3) Pour water into the hose until there was flow into the pool (confirmed by child helping me 😂) 4) Drop the hose so it lands in the low spot of my yard Doing this got the siphon going and it's still draining now. Physics is awesome!! 😎

Thank you so much for your common sense approach to draining the pool. I am a recent widow and my late husband always did these kind of things on his own. I can actually do this on my own and this is so empowering for me. I don't want to rely on my busy kids to help me drain the pool and there are no special gadgets to rig together.

Siphoning is dependent on 3 things: 1. The hose stays full of water (no air...at all) 2. The hose is submerged in water where the water goes in (in your pool). No air. 3. The other end of the hose is not elevated higher than where the water goes in (gravity helps propel the water) Can you confirm that's the case?

Ideal to store the liner till next season but where do you store it? mine is 16x32x4 rectangular and I have left water evaporate twice, first time I filled and all was ok last year then left it up and water evaporated again and now after some hard cleaning which did not lifted all the dirty spots I am re filling again and inspecting as I go to see if i did not ruined the liner; lot of people assure it is ruined but this liner is 20 gauge and heavily stitched up; in my are Las Vegas the summer and sun in general is brutal all year around but the humidity very low, don't know if this is good or bad for the liner but my neighbor stored his last season and kids broke it playing around it, he has a small tear now after this season he has to throw it away; as I type i got like 6 or 7 inches of water into mine and checking; the liner "feels" ok. As I fill it i will see if it fails or not, taking the chance for the rest of this season but come October I will definitely drain it and store it or even before if I stop using the pool, like maybe mid September, providing the liner survived my mistreatment.
@getitdone308
@getitdone308 11 ай бұрын
I store mine in an outdoor shed. It only gets used for the pool and a couple other things, so the pool really doesn't get touched in the off season. You are right though...wherever it's stored, it needs to be left alone (no kids around it).

@@getitdone308 just checked pool water level it is about past half filled, inspected around and cant see any leaking or anything indicating the liner is compromised, in couple spots the liner seems shrink and like it will not get back to its flat shape but it looks sturdy in and out, on the left side of pool at the bases the liner connector not the liner itself are kind of ripped but still holding up, if they would tear completely the support for that side could be compromised but seems they will hold; so far seems the liner could give me the rest if the season but to know have to wait until it is completely filled and see how the pressure of 16000 gallons do to a liner that have been exposed to sunlight and dryness for a year twice!

My pool was bought at Sam's Club for $450-ish. My thoughts were that if the Texas sun destroyed my pool, I could replace it for cheap.

Oh it works! You'll get 99% of the water out. Once the hose stops filling with water (because the water level is too low), the sun will evaporate the rest.

Are you just draining it & covering it up for the winter or would you suggest taking it apart completely? We have the same pool & I’m trying to figure out what we should do.
@getitdone308

We disassemble and store for winter. It's easy enough to do...and quick enough to reassemble the next season. One of the biggest reasons we do this is because we have a storage shed so it's much more easily stored.

What do you recommend using as a replacement for the drain valve cap? Bestway is out of stock on exact replacements, and I have been unable to find something sized correctly. Thank you!

I was thinking of using the pool pump/filter to drain my pool. I was going to take the return side out n hook it up to a longer hose. Then remove the other side and just lay it in the pool and let it suck up the water.. Do you think that would work?
@getitdone308
@getitdone308 2 жыл бұрын
Yes...until you get to about 1-2 inches. Then your pump will start sucking air and not work. That's whumy I did this. It's a siphon.

Yes I tried this and I had to go out at least four times during the day and do the whole process over again and it’s been two days and it keeps stopping so I don’t know what to do. I hate going out there over and over again starting, and stopping I still have at least 6 inches of water left in the 15 x 15 pole and it’s just not coming through the house anymore I don’t know what to do to be three days tomorrow.

It's got to be a true siphon or it won't work. No air in the hose at all. Pool water at a higher elevation than the other end of the hose. I literally do this same exact thing for my hot tub.

How did you undo the plug for the Pool ? Can you use something from outside to pop it out or is it threaded where you actually have to go underwater ? Thanks in advance for Reply
@getitdone308
@getitdone308 Жыл бұрын
You don't undo the plug. You unscrew the cap, screw the adapter to a hose, and plug it into the pool opening. That said...I didn't even do that this year. I just emptied the poop completely with the hose/siphon. Worked perfectly.

I pray u see this! Where can I get the valve or adapter!? This is not something I recall seeing when we did the install. Actually, I had a couple of pieces missing but I made it work. Please please respond. This is the exact video I need! Thanks so much!!!

It came with the pool. You can sometimes find a replacement on Amazon. That said...you don't need it. Last year I just drained the entire pool by this siphon method. I didn't use the adapter at all!

@@getitdone308 Thank u so so much for responding. Now, siphoning as far as using the pump to get out what u can? I need to watch it again cause u have the same drain plug at the bottom as I have. I noticed the valve inside the plug that needs to be pushed in by something when it's attached to a hose. That was my concern. And like I said, apparently, that was one of the missing pieces. I bought it last August, so since it was the end of the season, I didn't put it up until this year. The seat part on the ladder was missing as well. I think I saw that piece on Amazon but it was about $38! If that's the piece I need, I might have to contact the company again because when you pay over $700 for a pool everything should be in the packaging, this is ridiculous.

You don't need a pump...at all. While your pool is full, use the siphon method described in the video. It will remove all the water...just as if you used a hose with the adapter.

@@getitdone308Ok, I gotcha! I needed to use the adapter on the bottom cause I'd planned on letting it drain to my front yard so I can drench it to aerate with those shoe spike things and plant seeds. So even if I siphon, I'll have to figure out how to divert the water. I figure, I've already paid for 5200 gains of water, may as well recycle it. 😂

I watched the entire video. This siphon method is great but, my pool is still completely full. That's why I was trying to find out the adapter. Maybe I should've started with that. I truly apologize! I really don't mean to be a pain.

I didn’t have the drain adapter so I used this trick for the whole pool and it worked until the last couple inches, at which point the water flow stopped. Any suggestions?
@getitdone308
@getitdone308 2 жыл бұрын
As long as the hose stays full (without air), the siphon should work. It's when air gets in that the siphon stops. When I got down to that last little bit, I let the sun evaporate the rest. My pool is on a slight decline so when there was about an inch on one side, there wasn't any on the other. So I used a push broom to move the water to where it was dry to let the sun do its thing.
