The Mary vocals you hear is actually Her song. Drake handlers bought the rights for the beat and paid Mary For vocals on the chorus that remained.

The story Swiss Beatz told was that Mary J Blige recorded her part but actually missed the deadline to put the song on her album. Swiss put Fancy on the back burner just in case she might change your mind and put it on the next record. Later Drake calls him 4 a.m. which is a different time zone asking that he need a record that represent the strong beautiful independent women. He told Drake that he got a song just for him and play a sample of Fancy for him over the phone. Drake really love the feeling of the song said that he need this for this album...Swiss agreed by saying "Okay... I can make something similar to this". But Drake disagreed and told him that he needed that song he just played for him just now. Swiss agreed but told Drake that he had to work on some extra stuff to perfected with additional voice by Mary herself. FUN FACT: Andre 3000 was really supposed to be on this track but something came up with the schedule conflicting his collaboration with the artist. So the other big artists that Drake really wanting to work with was Tip.
