The lawsuit is not actually a direct suit between him and the label. It's a complaint which is basically to collect evidence. That can lead to a class action, meaning many parties can get involved. Essentially the big thing that he's claiming is that UMG and Spotify for Not Like Us reduced the licensing fee by 30% and did not disclose this. This is to promote the song, get it on more playlists, run up the numbers and make cheaper for Spotify at volume. This is illegal, and every artist under UMG can join a class action suit if proven (even Kendrick can sue for the rest of his collection) for essentially 30% of their catalogs license earnings to Spotify. They've basically re-established what a dollar is in streaming, for one song, by one artist, without legally disclosing it. If the suit goes through and Drake wins or UMG has to settle, even Kendrick gets paid lol. UMG's side is they're trying to devalue Drake during contract negotiations, its pretty simple.

the reason for the petition/lawsuit is simple, it's business. How do you get back at your label if you have disagreements? You diss them on a record the can profit from? You retire? You keep releasing music to make them money? No, you figure out a way to get out of your deal and if you can do some financial damage also it's a plus. The NLU record is perfect cover because they own the licensing to it so they are actually defaming Drake by allowing it to run. I believe the petition is his way of getting out of any deal he has with UMG to go independent or to stay with them and get a better deal than he had before. This is why he keeps leaking his music and why his album with Party hasn't released yet. He don't want them to make more money from him. All I'm going to say is that the temperature changed around Drake when he signed that petition for a cease fire. The only rapper to do so and it's all prior to the beefs. All of a sudden ops started coming out of the woodwork.🤷♂

I get Americans and Canadians gassing this up but outside of that most people have to realize most of the bars were nonsensical and written by someone who used rhymezone so he would have 15-20 words to rhyme with addiction or sound similar. Also the line "Thought we'd be closer like ovens and kitchens" might be the dumbest line I ever heard. Not to mention that it's not a freestyle when you're reading off something and he looks really stupid dissing LeBron when he still has Lebron's face tattooed with him wearing his The Irish basketball jersey when The Pop Out happened six months ago.
