This song holds a special place within me. 12 years ago is crazy to think about, 11 year old me had invited a school friend over for the weekend. Not fully expecting him to oblige, because we had one of those school relationships that never really left the building. He, Carter, was popular and in sports, but was polite to everybody regardless of your appearance or family background. I, was not popular by any means. I wasn't really expecting him to stay at my house for an entire 3-day Memorial day weekend. One of the best weekends I ever had, in big part because he showed me Drake. My family wasn't fortunate enough to have internet, we always went outside. So when Carter pulled out an i-Pod touch it was another wolrd to me. We played jetpack joyride nonstop, subway surfers. He had a cherry scented case that went on it and I can still smell that thing. We spray painted random things in my neighborhood at night. You know, guy stuff. The first night when we finally settled down we were watching what would be the early stages of KZbin, when there was good stuff on here. This video comes up, Carter: "You ever heard headlines." Me: "No whats that?.", Carter: "Drake just put it out.", Me: "Who's Drake?".... Oh boy. Did he have a reaction to that. After watching probably one of my first music videos and hearing rap, I just had an instant nostalgic feeling. Like I was going to remember this for the rest of my life, and I have. R.I.P Carter, I love you and haven't forgotten about you. I'll see you later. Forever 17.
