RajOfColumbus I never said Drake was obligated to speak on Black issues. I said what I said, because Drake said he made black face in 2007 to represent how black people are represented in entertainment. Yet since then he hasn’t spoken once on any Black issues. Drake don’t give a fu*k about Black issues. He’s just trying to protect himself.

Taylor Waddell pusha and his brother have both admitted they didn’t need to. They were born in the suburbs, not rich, but not nearly poor enough to excuse selling your own people crack. BUSTED...Say what you want about Wendy but she's right. Drake is no Kendrick Lamar or Chance the Rapper; where was all his Black activism since he's been #1 in the game for several years now? Actions speak louder than words. Keep in mind, Drake was raised in Canada; his father was absent so he was raised by his white side; he had a bar mitzvah, and was once the corny kid on that show, "Degrassi." He took one of his nonblack friends in Canada and was trying to fit in too hard. I'd respect him more if he was like Justin Bieber and admit that he was young, dumb, and messing around. And his dad is one of those dads that show up in the picture when their kid make it big, it usually happens to athletes during draft time. I'm with the Breakfast Club: show me proof!

This is how I know Drake hate is real. You should really look up the things Drake has done for Black communities. Go to Memphis and ask a couple schools there where they got their laptops from. Go to Philly and ask Strawberry Mansion High School where they got their performance studio from. Ask about Drakes scholarships he gives... ya'll act like just because someone isn't saying "BLACK POWER" at the top of their lungs that they aren't doing anything. No, ya'll just like flashy shit with no substance. And what has Pusha T done for the Black community... I'll wait.
@Yawdan

JTyme08 Push a T who campaigned for Hillary and worked towards prison reform? Yo, no one's hating the good deeds Drake has done. But this is a legitimate question that a lot of rappers have faced when they claim to be working towards Black progression but have not really had any instances KNOWN of actually doing so. Even so, some people feel that a Black person shouldn't dress up in blackface regardless. Which is their right to think.
@Jrfusion08
@Jrfusion08 6 жыл бұрын
Pusha T who had to explain why he was campaigning for a woman who called us super predators and who's Husband was responsible for the laws that put hundreds of thousands of Black men in prison for simple drug offenses? Pusha T that sold drugs to the Black community? Pusha T that raps about the killing and murdering of Black men because of "street respect". Drake may have put on Blackface as a project to express his dissatisfaction with his acting career but Pusha's musical career and life IS Blackface - playing a caricature of black people to spread racial stereotypes and his campaigning for Hillary is borderline Uncle Tom. He could have easily worked with Hillary without campaigning for her... but that's just my opinion.

Marvlus ray My point is it was not racist. He did it as an actor to make a point about discrimination, and stereotypical expectations of Blacks in media. We as Blacks have a tendency to rush to judgement when a person is biracial. Suddenly they aren't Black. It's ridiculous. Frederick Douglass was biracial. African American lineage is mixed due to slavery. Pure Black ethnicity are the African immigrants who come here. The US, Latin America, Brazil, Cuba, The whole Caribbean, Mexico, Great Britain were all part of the transatlantic slave trade. Even South Africans have mixed lineage due to the Dutch colonization. Aside from the beef (which is petty in my opinion) let's just deal with the fact that Drake is also a Black man. He doesn't have to prove that to anyone. A Black man in blackface is most likely trying to shed light on something not unlike the use of the N word in our community. You may not like Drake which is absolutely your perogative, but I absolutely think a Black man being drug for being in blackface is a broad reach. Peace

The photo shoot was taken in context of this video. The video is about typecasting.... You usually add photos as supplements to videos. You can't have the photo shoot in the actual short film, because the photo shoot is based on the subject matter of the short film... And if you watch whole thing, the film clearly alludes to black stereotypes (specifically in regards to the better reception of lighter skin tones), and there is clear sense of awareness... So the photo is a perfect reflection of the subject matter of the short film... And there are also two blackface photos that people leave out. One shows Drake looking sad.

Rhys Jones Wtf are you talking about they are equivalent. Both are/were being attacked for their artistic representation of a controversial topic. Kathy received death threats and was fired. Drake looking like he gets a pass. Why is that? I don’t need to put myself in a Creme colored Jew’s position. I’m a black female, my plight is bigger than his based on that alone. He himself said he was plagued with racism growing up. Now he’s talking about having photo shoots to represent black struggle like it makes sense he gives a damn; when has he ever spoken on black issues not never. He spends more time dicking down hos and writing music for insecure birches. Not buying it.

MaldoMusicTV Finally stumbled upon another person with sense. It's because he's lightskin AND mixed, and they don't want him to wear blackface for that reason. If you're light skinned black or mixed race at the top of the rap game, a load of envious dark skinned people are going to do everything in their power to dethrone you and downsize everything rightful you've done. Remember when Drake spared all of that money to mainly black people during God's Plan? They completely forgot about that. I'm not saying that should justify his wrongdoings, but at LEAST cut the dude some slack instead of antagonizing the guy...

My late grandmother taught me at a young age everything there is to be known of Jim Crow, segregation, racism and all things of that nature. black face is something that disgustingly can’t be forgotten and is too great of a negative to rebuttal as a positive in any light. Throughout history black faced was stamped all throughout America being portrayed in plays, movies, cartoons, billboards and damn near everywhere the human eye can see to remind us that we are an abomination and to remind the white folks that they are highly above us. So for drake, A CANADIAN middle if not upperclass individual to put on that face with the red mouth symbolizing our “big lips” and try to justify it for some type of awareness doesn’t make much sense and is highly disrespectful in the eyes of our ancestors. Do better bro.

No sorry Charlemagne please put him to task. What he's saying doesn't add up and its stupid to use something like that which promotes racism to fight racism. He cannot be allowed to use the n word and he seems to me to be against black somehow i don't know but he's explanation is lame.

Ben H The blackface is a racial statement depicts how black people were portrayed. How does that not promote racism, when u are sitting at the platform that Drake sitting at what he does hss an impact, negative or positive and to me is a racial statement which favours very negatively. He has the nerve to have a Blackface that to me purports racism. Thank you.

Quinton chapman j Cole isn’t black either but no one said that being biracial meant they couldn’t side with black people on racial issues. Cole didn’t clown black people by dressing in blackface either. Notice drake never dressed in any silly costumes to “bring awareness” to his white Jewish side. Because he knows better than to clown them, yet has no respect for his black side.

Quinton chapman if you allow people who don’t look like you to represent you then it’s no longer your struggle or identity. Drake is a product of two worlds. Obama is a product of two word backed by white liberals in Hollywood. And black American better understand who they are and what they stand for stop letting white liberals define your beliefs and identity. Your culture and who you are as a black American. Just like us Africans we have our own languages and tribes. White people cant take that from us!

Ashley Canty because he’s a Canadian by like me, I grew up in Vancouver I had friends that knew him. Blacks people growing up in those times in Canada 🇨🇦 is nothing like America. You can’t compare experiences. But it should show black Americans it’s easy to be like a a black American no matter where you come from. Seems like the only group of people who follow anyone light skin

His "why" is suspect. He saying this was in 2007 and it is in protest of the treatment of black actors in Canada... Jim Crow laws were laws that enforced segregation of black and white people in the United States. His explanation doesn't make sense.
