The manga that follows one's brother story adds more twisted lore about furiae and the watchers. Yoko Taro really was cooking with craziness.

@ the manga title is “Drag-on dragoon shin ni itaru aka”. According to the lore, the events of drakenguard 3 come before one. It is a short read but it is dark and twisted. You may be able to find it online still. The wikia has some info on it too.

I love how Yoko Taro literally just made a crappy Musou (Dynasty Warriors-like) game when he was also tasked with making an Ace Combat (with Dragons!) and ended up tying it all together with one incredibly blunt yet profound theme: People doing/commiting evil & violent acts generally meaning they are evil & violent; those people getting their Just Desserts is what should happen in a better world. When you consider… - that each main character and companion of Caim is named after a demon in The Lesser Key of Solomon (Grimoire from the Dark Ages) or mythological figure of ominous origin - Angelus herself being an inversion of said theming due to violence & ☠️ being what she and her kin were created to do…destroying humanity (spoilers for Drakengard 3) - each companion/figure either being a depraved…demon…in relation to 🧒👧 (Arioch & Leonard) or one themselves (Seere & Manah) really underlining the true breadth of depravity in humanity as a whole - The Cult of The Watchers, with the titular Watchers being the localization of “Angels”, itself being a (possible) reference to the Lost Book of The Holy Bible, The Book of Enoch. In the Book of Enoch, The Watchers are what Enoch refers to the Fallen Angels who came to “intermingle” with humanity and in the process creating a race of Giants called Nephilim…which led to God deciding on the Great Flood that Noah had to build his Ark to survive. This miiiiiight be a stretch, but given how controversial it seems to be with fans who don’t like ascribing any sort of religious bent to it IN SPITE OF THE FACT THAT ANGELS/DEMONS/GODS COMING FROM RELIGIOUS TEXTS AND FOLKLORE/MYTHOLOGY…it very will could be what Yoko Taro is going for. D-OD1 is a game with A LOT to chew on and, in my opinion, is one of the pioneers of using taboo topics & violence to tell and reinforce its messaging & storytelling; alongside the like of Manhunt 1 (and especially 2), Indigo Prophecy, Silent Hill 2 & 3, and many other now-recognized-and-lauded classics of the 6ths Generation of Consoles…Drakengard did the medium a great service by crawling & stumbling so ⬇️ ➡️ NieR Automata could pick up air and glide ⬆️ and NieR (Replicant & Gestalt [2010])/NieR Replicant Ver. 1.2247… [2021] could truly soar 🥲 PS. I could’ve worded it better at the start, but Yoko Taro himself stated that he hated how the Musou genre was getting popular and wanted to use it as a platform to demonstrate EXACTLY THE KINDS OF “HEROES” we’re most realistically to find in those scenarios where they’re ☠️ing in the 10s or 100s of thousands; to double down, he wanted each of their fates to be worse than the last (hence the worse endings after A) and to generally admonish them all for choosing such an abhorrent path 🤔

The thing is the first two games need a remaster like Tomb Raider, and the third game just needs a reprint. It is literally impossible to afford a copy of Drakenguard 3.

I love Stellar Blade, but 2B is a much deeper, three dimensional character. I actually discovered the game because of so many cosplayers. 2B has the depth and popularity of X-Men's Psylocke.

I do like that you didnt moan about the combat for the full video, most reviews do. I think anyone who loves Drakengard/Nier actually loves the story and darkness. Yes the combat is bad and yes the story can be a bit odd, but thats not what sticks with you once you've finished the game. Loved your take on the game

I just finished this video. I love the nier/drakenguard franchise. My third favorite RPG series. I've seen fandom die hards talk about drakengard, but no one I watched went as in depth as you for the first game. I appreciate that. And thank you for admitting drakengards gameplay sucks. I'm sorry but no matter how good the story is, I can't get into it if the gameplay is bad. Which is what I thought when I tried it in 2013. Barely knew the series and was aware that nier had a talking book. I stopped playing after 3 levels. To this day I will not touch D1 or D3 for that matter. The reveal of a new nier at an E3 didn't phase me until people started talking about it. So I looked up summary and lore videos to prepare for the release. I played the demo and thought it was ok. Then the full game after playing BoTW in 2017. Nier automata felt like it changed me and I wanted more. I was so happy to play the replicant remake and that they included ending E. Went to the concert this year and was the best thing I went to game related. Everything yoko taro touches related to nier or drakenguard is canon to the universe snd thats insane to me. Bless him. I was hopeing to get a new nier game announced this year after reincarnation got shut down. Maybe next year as alot of people part of nier series were saying they'd love to make another one. However, a D1 or D3 remake/remaster would be nice even though most of the lore info is in reincarnation and the nier automata anime. But lets be real, who played reincartion aside from looking up videos on it? Regardless, only time will tell.
