Barbra Joan... did you guys have a "Hesitation Dance" in Jr. High around 1958 where the band would hold on one chord and everybody paused from dancing until the beat started again? Just wondering.. we had it in Ft. Worth, TX. Can't find anyone who remembers. Peace.

I am 73 (today), I watched this video about a month ago,, and then went to the Martha Reeves website...at that time, Martha and the Vandellas were doing a gig in Shanghai...Martha was still cookin' at age 78. "Long live Motown; Long Live the 'Girl Groups' of the 1960s".

In The Navy, on a Communications Station in Greece... 1964-66. My girlfriend, back in Brooklyn, sent me this "45" and a friend of mine & me walked down the road, carrying a portable record player, playing this song over & over... trying to keep the player vertical and not skipping the record..Yeah... I remember this song! Thanks for the memories!

The amount of talent that converged to make this is unbelievable. Written by Marvin Gaye, who's also playing the drums, with Mickey Stevenson and Ivy Jo Hunter. The Funk Brothers just killing it. The Vandellas really delivering the vocals, and the moves! Especially Martha, look at that smile, that attitude. I even tip my hat to whoever directed the main video here, and the cameramen, who caught it just right. For my money, it doesn't get any better.

Please, listen many "Blue Notes" sessions, with Rudy Van Gelden, with his withe gloves, as Sound Sorcerer. With Miles, Thelonious, Milt Jakcson. The Sound of Bernie Gordie come from this guy, more or less..I discovered "Martha and the Vendellas" by...Chris Squire, Bassist and Founder of Yes. 5 years of "European Tours" as Bass Tech, 1999-2004. Many nights to talk Musics during many years. Finally, please also The Bass Solo of "Starships Troopers", Its a respectuous Hommage to "Bernie Gordy" Sound, James Jamerson of course. And Alan White, who played with Joe Cocker was reallly happy too. Martha and The Vendellas. A Pure Diamond.

This song is so awesome!! It had the greatest beat! It reminds me of a day at work when me & Beverly were listening to this song & dancing around the kitchen singing. I was singing into a spoon & Beverly had a spatula. We were getting down when the assistant CEO of the hospital came in with a big wheel from the corporate office. Beverly froze but I kept going because they were behind me & I didn't know they were there. I turned around & stopped. All of a sudden the big wheel looked at Garon ( the assistant CEO) & he grinned & said " Well at least they enjoy their jobs!!" Garon looked at him & shook his head & laughed & said " you just don't know the half of it!" Lol Garon was always telling me I had missed my calling that I should've been a comedian. Lol Yes those were such fun happy times! Thanks to all the ladies bands they were all awesome & they did all of us very proud!!! ❤

I didn't know this Motown group did this song. I thought it was Bowie n jagger, im only 37 born December 1981 so im happy to know now after being at Motown the Musical theatre show in Scotland . Such a great track to dance to, its hard not to want to move to it. Also thought that you cant hurry love was a phil collins song ,its the supremes. I stand corrected .soo much talent at Motown and soo much quality music . Michael Jackson still my all time favourite by a distance . Nobody excites me or moves me emotionally or to dance like MJ, the most special sweet man in my eyes and his talent was off the charts. I miss him, i love him. Ill take his music and memories to my grave .mj is a big part of my life and his music dance n message of love has made my life better. But a big thank u to all the Motown stars for sharing their gift and soulful music which was pure and tasteful, all about love n respect .peace ,lets continue to spread Motown n MJ for future generations to have quality soulful music

Mannnnn I loved me some Martha Reeves when I was a little boy in the sixties, hahaha, hahaha. But I never knew until today when I was reading this article. That this was considered a protest song utilized by the Black panthers and H.Rap Brown at some of their rallies. Isn't it ironic that what this song was trying to convey way back then. People across the nation dancing in the streets, we ain't dancing but we're out in the streets together united trying to bring about change. RIP to all the fallen and I hope they are reaping the rewards of the martyrs that they are.

I remember this song when I was three, growing up here in Detroit. I even remember the street parties. Man, it was fun. Every time I walk past the Motown Museum, a classic like this starts "dancing" in my head. 📀

Man! This is an awesome tune! I get goosebumps whenever i hear it! And yet it's a very simple, straightforward song but with an extremely catchy, feel good vibe to it. A real hymn to those amazing 60's. Thanks Motown for making our lives happier! :)

One of those iconic masterpieces that cross generational lines. Just listen to the chunka chunka bottom on this tune. Just outstanding. Sounded great over the booming am radio signal from WABC New York as a kid in the 60s.
