I am quite sick and tire of PLAYERS disputing ANY kind of call. WHETHER A CALL IS RIGHT OR WRONG ......THAT'S THE OFFICIAL CALL. IF the player wants to start arguing, he/she loses one point ....IMMEDIATELY. The penalty is ASSESSED and done, finished. Continuation of any arguing AFTER the first assessment is finished ......ANOTHER PENALTY POINT IS ASSESSED IMMEDIATELY, AND FINALIZED, finished. Continuation of any arguing after the previous assessment is made .....ANOTHER PENALTY POINT IS ASSESSED IMMEDIATELY, AND FINALIZED, finished. That's how it should work for ALL of these tennis matches. If a player decides he/she is going to argue or be verbally abusive throughout an entire match, then "officials" will meet during this match and decide whether to continue with the match or simply remove the player from the match. Such an event, if it were to happen, the player would NOT be allowed to enter any tournaments for one year after this event. Back in the McEnro day of sub-par video coverage, the "proof" or "evidence" for any call could NOT be argued because of poor camera systems .....so he just completely ended up destroying the tennis game. Serena Williams and her 2009 TIRADE for foot faulting, which she in fact DID foot fault because the videos clearly show it, AND the 2018 "coaching" incident, once again, video very clearly showing this evidence, resulted in another TIRADE ....she argued and kept going on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on. Perhaps it's just because "OFFICIALS" have no mechanism to get out of a player arguing. No way of stopping the incessant arguing .....and that's what the officials need. The TENNIS WORLD NEEDS TO CHANGE THEIR APPROACH TO THIS PLAYER ARROGANCE .....unless, of course, they think this is GOOD FOR THE SPORT ......like WILL SMITH walking up on a stage and using violence by hitting someone in the face .....HELPS TO SELL TICKETS. The world HAS CHANGED through the years ...and most certainly NOT for the better. .

Why the Italians can't afford to deploy Hawkeye on a ATP 1000 tournament is beyond comprehension. A few years ago, there was an awful call against Pliskova, a ball that was an inch inside of the line that was called out, and it costed Pliskova the match. Get your act together! Also, the umpire clearly know the rule and he could have simply let Shapopalov know the code against crossing the net, out of a courtesy. And it was a benign and non-confrontational exchange too! And the umpire assessed a point penalty after that.

Shapovalov should have known this rule. He should have asked for permission to cross the net and show the mark, then he'd have some defense, but the line judge did the right thing. Rules have to be enforced, even in situations where they are not ideally suited for the context of the moment
@jzgame12 жыл бұрын
If he asks for permission, he would receive a "You're not allowed to" and would never be able to show the real mark at 40-40. This rule is utterly bullshit, if the umpire can't see the real mark on a massivly important point you should defenitly be allowed to show him. These type of rules are exactly the reason why players and umpire get into arguments quite often : no discussion whatsoever, following a dumb rule like this just for the umpire to show that he's the boss doesn't lead to a great mood for the match. Also the only problem here is the umpire being unable to call the right mark, if this is fixed nobody needs to cross the net. I don't get why blaming it on the player, umpire can't do his job properly so the players HAS to show him and then in the consequence of that it becomes the player's fault and he even get a point penalty out of this lmao, how does this make any sense. Players get a lot of penaltys and fines in their carrier, for various reason, I've never seen or heard of an umpire getting one. When you're showing the wrong mark at 40-40 on an important game, you should also get some penalty or fine, these players play their legacy on points like this.

@@helloeveryone0123 good you called it exhibition pal. its that for a reason. if players would throw matches on purpose (like they do in exhibitions, where they want to entertain the crowd and do the tweeners or not play seriously) they would get a match fixing penalty resulting in a BAN from tournaments, that could last years or even PERMANENTLY. so if you cross the net during exhibition match its TOTALLY different than in real match, where shapo did it.

All tennis tournaments should stop using line judges and implement the Hawk-Eye live technology like what the Australian Open did this year. All the matches there went smoothly and not one player was cheated by in balls called out and vice versa. I remember back in the day when Connors and McEnroe would intimidate line judges into giving them favorable calls on close line balls. Tennis is a game of millimeters and human beings will occasionally make the wrong calls in every match. If the tournament has the means to install Hawk-Eye, then I hope they will do it soon, so incidents like this or players being cheated from incorrect line calls will be a thing of the past.
