This is crazy! So nothing is guaranteed in Nigeria. Investing in that country is just at your own risk

Eminent Domain, which allows governments to compulsorily take over land for public purposes, exists in virtually ALL common law (and most other) countries. It’s NOT unique to Nigeria.

Sadly, Nigeria as a country has lost all sense of humanity. depreciating value of buildings you say, did you consider how much it will take in this economy to erect that same buildings you call dilapidated somewhere else? for those mocking them in the comment section, because they are a church continue, your reward awaits.

This is NOT a case of ‘willing buyer-willing seller’ but rather a case of EMINENT DOMAIN pursuant to both the Constitution and the Land Use Act enshrined therein, which allows the government to compulsorily take over landed property for overriding public purposes so long as compensation is paid.

If you like, let your church come from the sky, as long as its has been built in a place where it is not meant to be built or does not meet the building regulations, it must be brought down. You and your ipob members can come here and play victim like you want. It does not matter. If you feel you are in the right and the government is in the wrong, then go to court. Coming here to talk rubbish.
@therealist286613 сағат бұрын
NOTHING to do with where the church was built (or with ‘tribe’, for those of you always eager to engage in primitive tribal fights)…🤦♂️ There is absolutely NOTHING WRONG with where the church is located, except that the development of the Quality Bus Corridors project by the Lagos government and France’s AFD requires the demolition of many properties across different parts of Lagos. In this case, this church (and likely some other properties in the same area) was incidentally affected.

Did you bother to watch the video, because it clearly shows cheque for N123m (for that unfinished ‘school’ property) paid as COMPENSATION and collected by a lawyer purportedly representing the church before another lawyer turned up and claimed to be representing the same church (likely promising the “overseer” that he could get more money).

Sadly, the church’s “lawyer” seems as CLUELESS as the reporter seems ill-informed. 🤦♂️ This is NOT a case of ‘willing buyer-willing seller’ but rather a case of EMINENT DOMAIN pursuant to both the Constitution and the Land Use Act enshrined therein, which allows the government to compulsorily take over landed property for overriding public purposes so long as compensation is paid. Doubtful those unfinished properties are worth anywhere near the N1B the ‘overseer’ is looking for.

This is so disheartening and disgusting. Please Nigeria has not been one ever since APC took over government. Are you encouraging people to keep investing in your state by this whole rising ugly demolishing of people's investments?
@therealist286613 сағат бұрын
Is this the only property being demolished? Scores of properties have been demolished for the QBC (Quality Bus Corridor) project, which will frankly be of much greater benefit to ALL Lagosians. Mr. ‘Overseer’ should take the N123m compensation offered and go build another sink ‘school’ building elsewhere.
