Love the music. That couple are super lucky not to be badly injured. That was a very poorly trimmed and balanced boat. They'll think twice next time. Even that larger cat was lucky not to have drowned the engine when it went back in arse first. Awesome drone work guys.

I have an old fibreglass hull with a hardtop. A few years back I put a 100 litre flooding ballast tank up front and as low down as possible sitting on the keel. Has a 50mm fill pipe and fills in less than a minute when I open the valve. Either pump out or will drain when on the plain with the valve open. Has made a huge difference when heading out, and also to the ride in the rough. Naturally I drain it when in a following sea.

@@DrDeepstack I cut a hole in the hull and have a 50 mm pipe from the hole to a knife valve and then into the tank. The tank also has a vent line to another hole that is above the water line. Slow to a stop then open the valve and it fills in less than a minute. It will empty when on the plane or I can pump it out. Made the world of difference to the ride in a head sea.

1:09 This is the strangest 'voodoo' rescue you'll ever see. Note, they swim to a rescue boat, 40' away, a few seconds later the guy has his shirt changed from gray to white, and puts his canopy-top up, and the capsized boat vanishes, (alien intervention perhaps). The water turns darker, another boat appears noting that the capsized boat is gone, which would indicate at least 5 to 10 minutes lapse time. So ... these two in the water just decided to enjoy frolicking in the water or the guy on the boat was just asking them for directions and wasn't about to pick them up. shrugs...

00:53 Looked so close to a save, right at that last 1/2 second before it yawed left, I wonder if he had wot to the right it might have countered the left yaw, provided he had a good bolster seat keeping him at the wheel, looks like at some point he bailed, which makes sense. I don't know why the guy is hanging onto the hull unless he can't swim, (times a wastin' , hypothermia), swim in now or hope someone comes along? Haven't got a lot of time, I don't think. shrugs.. The boat won't be righting itself unless a wave randomly rights, it, and then what, next wave will roll it over again. 1:11 Nice! To the rescue!

I am a lousy fisherman, and despite holding a marine license, I know very little about power boats. I was, however, a keen sailor, many years ago. The weather forecast, the tide chart, your skills and experience and the limitations of your vessel is something that you need to consider before every outing. On top of that, there's "gut instinct". And keep in mind that you are never committed. Even when you've spent the time preparing the boat, picking up your mates, driving to the ramp and launching, there is still the opportunity to change your mind. There's nothing wrong with sitting at home with a cup of tea and reading your favourite fishing magazine, in fact there is a time for it. Enjoy your new hobby, safely.

The reason why they got in trouble is obvious: Too fast! Too much gas and trim! In this case, the wave acts on the boat as a springboard! Look at the other boats whose pilot reduces the throttle when taking the wave, they pass without problem!
@Nortonhoad
@Nortonhoad Жыл бұрын
The renegade that flipped, is trimmed up way to much or to much weight in the back. By the looks, it looks like both. Its a blade hull for a reason to eat up those waves didnt even give the boat hull a chance to work with a motor trimmed like that.

The mistake here is he is to trimmed up causing himself to launch up as he crests the wave. He likely thinks trimming up is good due to shallow water but if you are trimmed up and apply power it pushes your transom straight to the bottom. You want your boat trimmed more down by the bow to assist not going vertical and if you are in shallow water punch up onto the plane will avoid dragging your arse causing you to squat at the stern. If it's to shallow go when the tides better.

Nice video, & surprisingly nice music. As an aviation enthusiast, maybe boats should have small canard wings installed near the nose (sorry, bow), so that when the nose (bow) pitches up too much, the wings automatically point down into the wind to deflect the airflow & push the bow back down. This might just stop them from going full 90 degrees vertical & falling back down on their stern like what happened to the chaps in this video.

@philipdartnell
@philipdartnell Жыл бұрын
I'm also an "aviation enthusiast" (light aircraft pilot with floating hull seaplane endorsement so have dealt with wave or two). I've often thought about this concept for the large offshore power boats that sometimes get airborne with a sudden pitch up. They have virtually nothing to control pitch and roll once they're airborne and it would seem some sort of aerodynamic canard or elevator would be useful. In the case of these boats though in this video, I doubt they're going fast enough to generate any lifting force that would be strong enough to push the bow down (and a canard installed somewhere at the front would be pretty impractical too). Interesting idea though.
@ronlucock3702
@ronlucock3702 Жыл бұрын
@@philipdartnell Yes, completely correct. At the point when these slow-moving boats are starting to go vertical, their horizontal velocity is basically nothing, so yes, there's no aerodynamic benefit. Maybe for high-speed racing boats though? I think they would look pretty cool! Fly high Phil!

Some people don’t know the limits of their own minds and basic physics. I know, because I’m one of them. Why think before doing things? It only takes away the magic and a lot of very intense, scary and dangerous moments will not happen . A lot of experience is missed. You end up appreciating life less.
