Michael, this is the absolute best reaction I've seen yet to this song. You're the only one so far who actually got the fact that the friend died. The only one who expressed any kind of sympathy for him. The only one who recognized the contribution of George Jones to country music. You're the only one who gets it. I really appreciate your intelligent analysis and heartfelt grasp of the music. Thanks for what you do.

Thank you! This reaction clearly shows your intelligence. I have seen several reactions of this song and invariably the reactor does not comprehend that He has died and the song is a testament to the man's undying love for this woman. By the way, it is said that George was initially reluctant to record this song because he said no one would listen to such a depressing song. Thankfully he recorded it anyway.
@vao39064 жыл бұрын
This song took years to finish recording because of the bad shape George was in at the time, booze and drugs. George actually told Billy Sherrill the producer of the song when it was finally finished "You got your song son, but nobody is going to buy that morbid SON OF A BITCH!" Quoted from an interview with Billy Sherrill.

@anyamanning94274 жыл бұрын
IMO, this song “Whiskey Lullaby” and Reba’s “If I had Only Known” are the saddest country songs ever. “If I had only known” is especially sad, considering that the song was written about her band members who perished in a plane crash. “He Stopped Loving Her Today” is hard for me to listen, because my father passed away when this song was everywhere. I was eight years old.

I had the fortunate luck to know George and Tammy's daughter, Georgette. I, like you, grew up on classic country as my father is a musician who plays steel guitar. I followed by being a bass player and drummer and sound engineer so music has always spoken to my soul. George had many songs I think would speak to your heart, I saw someone mentioned "who's going to fill their shoes" also I believe "cold hard truth" and his version of "blues man" with Dolly Parton. Another that may tug your heart is Dolly Parton "Eagle when she flies"

I grew up hearing this song, and for years, it was just words. I wasn't old enough to know what they meant. As I got older and continued to hear this timeless classic, I found that the words equaled emotion. From that time forward, this song rips me up, and the tears roll. The ability to tell a story that evokes strong emotion is a true talent and a skill that often falls by the wayside. The words might be right, but if the story isn't told right, it's just words. Another one that often gets me is Seven Spanish Angels with Ray Charles and Willie Nelson.

There was a door where all the artist would leave thru. I stood there all thru The show and I got every performer that played that night and some that didn't I had over 50 autographs. But thru time I lost it would be hard telling what that fan would be worth today. Because there not a name on it to where a artist signed that is living today. Sorry about the rant as you would say. @cheryljohnson7334 жыл бұрын
They called him possum because of his close set eyes and a great documentary on him said that maybe he wasn't the brightest of people but he did know how to put over a song. If you have time look up "Tales from the tour bus". It was the most hysterical look at some of these famous country singers. I learned and laughed a lot. I'm sorry you had such a hard time coming up but you seem to have it all together now. I also watched Lawrence Welk with my grandparents, the Porter Waggoner Show and etc. I loved my mamaw and papaw just about more than life itself. So, if they wanted to watch Lawrence Welk then I enjoyed it too. You and I are both alike in that we both feel the music and think about the message. We are either blessed from the ability or sometimes cursed. Sorry you were in the foster care system. Sending out all the love and kisses you might have missed growing up. I appreciate you and your great insight to the reactions you present. xoxoxoxoxo

Never liked that nickname his so called friends and drinking buddies gave him. He was a bad alcoholic, so he probably didn't need someone calling him unflattering names even if it was in fun. On numerous occasions a musical artist would put there arm around him on stage and call him either the best or just his personal favorite. It always shocked him when they did that. Because he didn't know how good he really was.

The one and only George Jones. A masterful country voice. Never equaled and I doubt ever will be. George Jones plumbs emotional depths that very few artists can reach. George's pain is right in your face. In your heart. In your soul. George Jones was deeply marked by a horrific childhood. But he survived as a young boy and found a way to tell the truth in 3 minutes on vinyl and on stage. And we all now feel George's pain in his immortal classic country song. If you have a heart, you will never forget this song. God bless George Jones. RIP Possum. We all miss you.

Well you really got me on this one, I'm a mess, a 54 year old male in a mess of tears. I've never stopped loving a girl that had left me after a 7 years relationship. It's nearly 30 years after the fact and I still think of her nearly every day. I did send her a very long heartfelt letter about 5 years ago but I have not heard back. Every time I get a telephone call that says nothing and then shortly afterwards hangs up, I can't help but think it's her trying to call. I don't want to send another letter if she's not into receiving one, so I keep waiting and wishing she would talk to me . At least she knows, "I'll love her till I die" .... Thank-you for this reaction video, and thank-you for paying the respect to the country artists and thank-you for how eloquently you interpretated the song. PS.
