This channel focuses on combat flight simulators like DCS World and IL-2 Great Battles. If you play either of these games or flight simulators like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and enjoy aviation and dogfighting then this channel is for you. Even if you are coming from War Thunder and BF2042, you can learn to fly these combat flight simulators.
I play using TrackIR5 and do not use VR, this means that I am able to capture footage for tutorials, how-to-guides and other multiplayer tips and tricks video in 1440p.
Eagle Dynamics has made it easier than ever to learn DCS because the game is technically free. The game has the F-15, F-16, Su-27, Mig-29, Mig-21, Mig-19, Mig-15, F-86 Sabre, Jf-17, Mirage 2000, F-18 Hornet and F-14 Tomcat. There are soon other modules coming such as the Mig-23 and F-4. Lastly, there are helicopters like the Mi-24 Hind and AH-64 Apache.
The same is also true for IL-2 Great Battles. With Battle of Stalingrad, Battle of Kuban, Battle of Bodenplatte, Battle of Moscow and Battle of Normandy being released, there is an immense amount of variety covered. The Bf-109, Fw-190, P-51, Tempest, P-47, Mc.202, Stuka, Ju-88, He-111, and so on are all in the game. I focus on making videos to make that part accessible so you can dive into IL-2 Multiplayer.

It looks like the 4YA Project Overlord server has population on Sundays, today it was full with 80/80 people. For WWII IL-2 GB is still my jam but I did spend a ton of money on DCS WWII so if you are like me and want to get your money's worth out of it, you may want to pop on there when they have their events.

WW2 DCS seems like it would really benefit from a similarly focused approach to what kinda/sorta seems to be happening with Cold War. With some dedicated ground-attack aircraft and/or bombers to complement all the late-war single engine fighters, there would be opportunity for a more varied multiplayer experience, and that might create a critical mass of interest in WW2. The Mosquito is a great start, let’s hope we see more, especially with Normandy 2 looking very promising. I’m definitely branching out into more WW2 content lately. That last shot of the bomber stream receding into the distance through the parachute rigging, with engine noise and gunfire in the background is pure magic, btw. :)

The thing that drives me *crazy* is the absence of a Fw 190 G/F ground attacker. Given that these are essentially just variants of the As we have we're like 90% of the way there already.

@@hanswolfgangmercer Well even the Anton is relatively new addition to DCS. If i remember correctly there were some promises of the F jabo version but then ED denied it. With the speed of ED development and DCS ww2 community size of basicaly 1 server ( circa 40 players) chances of any sort of improvement are so damn slim theyre touching the border of impossibility. Sometimes i get a feeling ED is doing ww2 just because Warbirds foundation tells them they have to. Blind faith is the only thing left for WW2 in DCS.

Yes! The Mosquito is excellent, I’d love an aircraft like the A-26 with both the level-bombing glass nose and the utility nose with eight .50cals. It would act as a player-operated level-bomber, as well as a strike aircraft like the Mosquito. With optional gun pods, the A-26 can get as many as eighteen .50cals pointing forward to strafe. Imagine that…

@@marduk87yeah ED has kind of dropped the ball with WW2. The atmosphere just doesn’t capture WW2 in a way that does it justice or even appeals much to the DCS community. Everyone seems interested in launching ripples of AMRAAMs from F-18s and F-15Es than playing Cold War or WW2. That’s a real shame because at some point, the modern era in DCS will get old, as ED will run out of modern jets that they can model. They’ll have to go and focus on Cold War and WW2, which may lose players. Very unfortunate. That said, I do hope that isn’t the case. I would love for more people to see WW2 for what it is, and that would lead to ED actually developing WW2 into what it should be.

Awesome video! I love it! We need more high altitude, heavy bomber intercept missions in both DCS and IL-2. Thanks also for showing your intercept plan and explaining what you were doing/intending to do. That chess of pursuit and getting into position is not something we get to see too often. I also love seeing DCS for the better sound, like you said. Especially the external shots. The sound design is really, really good in DCS. I also like the tracers in DCS more too. In IL-2 it looks like they originate 50 yards in front of the aircraft, whereas in DCS it seems like they render closer to the aircraft. Gives more depth to them. Great content. Thanks for this!

Unfortunately the P-47 does not perform at high altitude in DCS. It wobbles terribly and tries to fall out of the sky. It is way outmatched by the pony and the 109 even up high.

@@eagle1_160 The reality is that's just not true I'm afraid. I spent a lot of time in the p-47 in DCS and I can say for a fact it's outperformed by the 109 k at all altitudes and it's performance degrades severely up high. I love the plane and have tried to make it work many times.

DCS players could benefit from an RTS / FPS external campaign at large scale warfare, where players from RTS would create events for aerial interdiction and strategic bombing. This events would be in que and would have to be deal and resolved by players pilots inside DCS at large scale based on real resources from RTS campaign. Also i didn't get it why the bombers didn't fire back like in the historical missions ?

Saw this video last week and decided to give WW2 DCS a chance. I played IL2 years back and been mostly on your ECW server now.. but man, am I enjoying WW2 DCS. I bought the Normandy 2 map, 109 and WW2 assets within a couple of hours of starting a trial. Quick question, your 109 crosshair looks much thinner and smaller (and easier to make longer distance shots with). Is this a mod? Don’t believe the 109 has a tweak for it ..

There is a control to change the brightness. I think by default its right ctrl P and something else to decrease it.

@@Enigma89 Yes but the size of your Crosshair is much thinner and more zoomed out than mine. For me the circle fills the entire gunsight. EDIT: Nevermind, seems to be a POV thing. When you zoom in more it looks more like mine (although still thinner?) Maybe I just suck and you make the gunsight look better than mine while the are the same :P

Yeah that surprised me. It was either a DCS spotting moment where I missed something OR it was the track file being funny. Sometimes with track files, when you watch something, it resimulates everything but what happens is that net new things can happen, it's not a true replay system.

I was flying above that city for at least 20 min, then my engine stop working (i am beginner...). Then those guys appired and i was sad i couldnt join that dog fight. I ditched maybe 30 seconds later.

Just got into the Warbirds and my issue is IDing bandits. To confirm it's enemy I have to get close. Then I get killed. Unless it is silver I don't know what to look for.

Personally, I prefer IL-2. While DCS WWII has some compelling things about it like the torque, FM, effects and sounds, it just does not have enough content to replace IL-2 as the premier WWII flight sim. Some other people are going to give you another answer because they have other priorities. It's really up to your personal preference on what you want to get out of it. You can always free trial DCS WWII to see how you like it. Lastly, a lot of people want to plant their flag and defend it to death. I am of the opinion that all of the modern games are insufficient in delivering a total experience so with that in mind, I think having a mix of games to rotate through is probably the best way to go about it.

IL2 has more population and a broader plane set. It’s a better video game. The planes are have a better overlap in periodic males and models. Along with upgrades like 150 octane. DCS had such a limited planeset you have early 1944 p47s vs later war k4s. Or mustangs without 150 octane vs Dora’s. DCS has more demanding flight models and a focus on more involved cooling. It’s a better simulation. The p47 is a fantastic module where you are always checking Ts and Ps and trying to manage the manifold pressure mid fight to squeeze as much power out as possible without breaking the engine in a myriad of ways. This will hopefully make you learn how the whole turbosupercharger system works which is quite satisfying . All this while trying to fend off a K4. The k4 is a fantastic dogfighter too, you only really need to pay attention to your manifold pressure though so you can do less temp checks. It’s weird but every time I get stoked enough to go back to IL2 I’m surprised by how much lift and control the planes have in scenarios where the DCS planes would have you grappling with a departure. I find being defensive in IL2 is a fair bit easier because you still retain control as you jink and lose speed. in il2 the cockpits in are lifeless in retrospect. Its like when youtube went from standard definition to 1080p. You don't notice the richness of the experience as you watched the first few videos, but going back and watching an old video from 8 years ago is jarring. So in il2 there's no need to swap fuel tanks mid fight because you forgot to swap over while jockeying for advantage on a speck. Your engine is not seizing because you let the boost lever get in front of the throttle one. Your prop hasn’t stopped because you forgot to open the rads as you got into a grotty turnfight even though the temps were fine 40 seconds before. Even in enigmas heavily automated k4, the his engine will seize if he used it above 1.45 ata without mw50. The damage models in ww2 dcs surpass every other era in that sim. You can feel when your elevator gets chopped off. If you dive too fast in the 47 your rudder can fall off. If you get shot you can see the oil streaming out behind you as and your oil pressure plummets. The other day in the mozzie we lost the left engine to a fuel leak in one of the tanks and we had to try to use as much of an outboard tanks fuel as it streamed out before switching to an inboard one. The startups are involved, getting all the armament panels set for a bomb drop is satisfying. With Normandy 2 coming, it’s only going to look better in dcs too. If your up for a challenge inside the cockpit while trying to manage the same fight outside the cockpit try DCS. If you’re looking for a server with higher population and more period aligned planesets go for il2. If you’re going to dip your toe in the water with DCS something that turns well and has less engine management get the spitty or k4. If you want a challenge in the cockpit go the the p47, it’s fantastic at ground pounding too. It’s one of the best made modules in dcs. There’s honestly not a bad module in the bunch and I don’t regret buying any of them.

The damage model in IL-2 is much more varied and visually impressive than DCS. You can knock off more parts of the aircraft and do more granular physical damage. The damage model in DCS is more advanced with respect to internal damage (engines, cables, etc). Although to be fair, not by that much. IL-2 is pretty good in that department. One of the biggest differences is the engine wear model. In IL-2 the different engine modes have timers attached to their use. If you use the mustang at 3000rpm and 60 inches for five minutes and 1 second, your engine will suffer damage. Five minutes is fine, but that extra second will kill you every time. DCS has a much more varied and realistic simulation of the engine. As long as you keep an eye on your temperatures and pressures, you can squeeze a lot of performance out of the engine in all the planes.

Steal has a really negative connotation to it. The SOW developers deleted their server and I genuinely thought it was pretty bold what they did. Seeing the community reaction was sort of surprising for me. The community gathered the missions that they had and then basically gave them to 4YA. So I would not really say steal maybe repurposed is a better word for it.

I don't really like flying American planes because I am already super familiar with them because I am American. To me it is much more interesting to see how other countries tackled these design issues with their own homegrown solutions. Ultimately, this is a video game and the American side never has issues getting players, someone has to play the other side.
