Luna Rossa is held in very high regards in NZ. It was amusing to see their crew one year when they were asked to join victory parades around the country and they did not understand why we cheered them as well. They sailed extremely well and made NZ really dig hard to be able to win. Worthy competitors (And good sportsmen: no underhand nonsense)

Hanno preso una porta in faccia in partenza ma hanno provato a rimontare credendo nella prestazione di Taihoro e invece a un certo punto hanno capito che qualunque fosse il salto di vento Luna Rossa gli dava 1/2 nodi di velocità in più. Tra l’altro queste saranno le condizioni medie del vento a ottobre… quindi un mazzata per i kiwi in termini di prestazioni.

@americascup Feedback on the shot selection in the videos. There is way too much B roll. On Leg 4 when LR doubled their lead we needed to see the boats on the course so we could see LR picking shifts and gusts. Instead the majority of the leg showed close ups of the boats and sailors. Lesson = When the distance between the boats is changing then broad shots of boats on course required. Zoom in when the distance between the boats is stable.

I think the people complaining about bias from the commentators have a point. LR did an outstanding start, in an extraordinary fight for the right side, and pressured TNZ into tacking… the wind shift may have contributed to them going down… but the commentators not only don’t praise LR for that but then justify TNZ drop, without considering merits on LR or mistakes by TNZ. It takes several minutes to listen to Peter Lester (NZ) praise the LR (well done!). I think Shirley Robertson was quite balanced as well. My complaint goes for the 2 commentators in the studio (who are them? Why do they not introduce themselves?)

Perché i fulmini sono la cosa più pericolosa del mondo per una barca a vela e chi ci sta dentro. L'elettricità segue la via con meno resistenza, quindi gli alberi in carbonio, oltretutto bagnati, offrono una resistenza elettrica molto inferiore all'aria umida, e così pure lo scafo, anch'esso in carbonio. Tutti i marinai sanno che questa è una situazione che potrebbe costarti non solo le delicatissime attrezzature elettroniche di bordo, le vele, lo scafo o la complessa rete di fili elettrici a bordo, ma anche la vita, visto che il nostro corpo è formato dal 60% di acqua. Quando ho visto quel fulmine così vicino a Luna Rossa, mi sono davvero spaventato. Chiunque va per mare sa che in una situazione del genere, ossia con i fulmini, la prima cosa da fare è reclinare l'albero sulla coperta ed allontanarsi SUBITO dalla barca, buttandosi in acqua, al limite attaccandosi ad essa per non perderla con una corda lunga che però deve stare dentro l'acqua. Ma queste imbarcazioni non possono smontare l'albero, possono al massimo collegare in testa d'albero un cavo ad alta conduttività fino al mare, in modo che l'elettricità, se colpisce la punta dell'albero, prenda la via di quel cavo senza scaricarsi sull'imbarcazione. Per far ciò, però, la gara va ovviamente interrotta.

@@AaaBbb-ff1pn Le barche AC credo non prevedano un sistema di scarico dell'elettricità, se non in porto con un cavo superconduttore agganciato in testa d'albero e che finisce in acqua, né possiedono un tipo di carbonio adatto, perché si suppone che una regata con i fulmini non si tenga, ovviamente. Inoltre, le AC devono essere leggere e correre, annegare nel carbonio tutta la lunghezza dei cavi sarebbe un peso enorme da portarsi appresso. C'è poi da considerare che gli aerei di linea volano alti rispetto al suolo, e non sono immersi in un liquido ad alta condittività come l'acqua salata. Oltretutto, le barche, per quanto siano perfettamente isolate, si bagnano un pò dappertutto, non come gli aerei che essendo isolati e pressurizzati possono mantenere al loro interno i cavi, all'asciutto. L'acqua nelle AC penetra comunque, e se non penetra l'acqua penetra l'umidità, rendendo pericolosissima una regata del genere in regime di fulminazioni, considerando anche che, come hai visto, le strumentazioni sono esposte liberamente dentro gli alloggiamenti dell'equipaggio, ma esposte alle intemperie. Hanno fatto BENISSIMO ad interrompere, il pericolo spaventoso che ha corso l'equipaggio di LR è stato enorme.
