this is a great and simple video greg, i lost myway with the golf swing the last couple of years, gone from a 4 handicapper to 8 and hitting the ball at least a club less, too many you tube videos i guess, i bought into the idea of body rotation gives the power, i started swinging so fast just to try to get the same distance, i am now just trying to forget the rotate as fast as you can method , my opinion is now that if you set out with the intention of whipping that clubhead through with your hands your body will react subconciously to allow you to do it

I was at the driving range a couple of days ago. I was swinging my driver 92 mph. I asked this young guy to swing my driver while i measured his speed. His clubhead speed was 113 mph. He hit the ball out of the range (its not that long a range). What was interesting was his hand speed measured 16 mph and mine was 23 mph. He was about 5ft 7" 150 lb; so not a big guy. so he hit it 23 % faster with a handspeed 43% slower. I found that amazing.

Hands are the hinge point. If you are holding lag, the hands have to slow down through impact if the clubhead is going to whip through at top speed. Moving your hands fast through impact actually slows down your clubhead, since your hinge point has a larger radius compared to your clubhead path.

Awesome drill...there was a young pro in my local golf club that would do this drill and make the club make a sound so incredibly sharp and short...like an explosion...yet swing with body motion that was smooth. Just like the video. Thanks.

This is so true, I was swinging my 7 iron 75 mph before I actually started SWINGING the club and not my body! Afterwards I was swinging 90 mph with a 7 iron. I did this all on a local swing simulator in a matter of 30 minutes. It was pretty amazing!

Were you as consistent using your hands and arms to make a golf swing? Bobby Jones said that 90% of amateur golfers don't TURN enough. He didn't say swing their hands and arms.
@Speedster2707

Just stumbled across your video. You just described my training session today. I accidentally did this (w/o the shaft drill). I was hitting my 6 iron an anemic 160 yards and was trying to figure out how I could get more club head speed to get more distance. My swing thought was to feel myself pulling my left (lead) arm through the shot. When I did that, it ensured that my chest lifted high at finish and I was ripping my club through the shot. I just let my arms go. My club head speed increased from about 75 to 80 mph (according to the Zepp device I was wearing). I was astonished to find my shots were landing 180+ yards out. The swing thought was all about pulling (not too much) my lead arm and just to let the club rip in the swing. It seemed like the lead arm kind of guided my shots from flying off target too much. I will continue to practice this. I may have discovered something here. ...oh no...wait...you did. 👍🏼

This is an exercise I first read of 25+ years ago in Golfsmith or some other golfing mag at the time that actually taught and wasn't just fluff articles of 20 best this, 20 best that. Around the same time, I also remember learning to do the same exercise but to also include a 2 3/4" wide x 5 - 6" long "zone" on the ground within which the imaginary ball lays. Do the same with both arms, but slower to get the feel of powering through the shot while maintaining a level club face. 2:30

Really enjoyed this video. Looks simple and makes sense . Look like a great coach. Ive never had a coach or lesson and shoot scratch. I just got back into golf after a 5 year break. I was all golf from 17 to 23. Even had a sponsor right out of high school . But I got a good job at a high paying place and I didn't lose interest in golf but I fell further and further away working so many hours and what not. Exactly what the personal sponsor told me would happen. BUT the Golf spark has been relit for me and its stronger then ever. I'm back to shooting about 1 or 4 over on a tough course and cant wait to get under par scores everytime again. My mind is older and I'm in it for the love of the game and also now that I Know what its like to work hard in a career you don't enjoy for a living I understand what all the older men were talking about when they told me I needed to pursue golf because I was good enough to make a living doing what I loved. For me back then it the game to me was mostly about competition. With yourself and mostly playing others. I plan on watching a lot of your videos Greg Jones and I haven't asked anybody yet or done this before but I was wondering if I recorded my swing and sent it to you you could evauluate it. Its not the best but its never been coached. I learned to swing and have always been told at the range from strangers that its beautiful . I learned from simply having golf magazines with the full swing in frame by frame pictures with me at the range and would look in the mirror and try to look like tiger woods at approach. and at my finish. Adam Scott has always had a beautiful swing as well. Maybe I could talk to you via email or phone. Thanks Mr. Jones!That was the name of my high school Golf coach at Orting high school. He didn't give us lessons or anything but gave us tips around the greens and told us to SLOW DOWN. haha.

Hey Bobo, Golf doesn't need to be difficult, or complicated, or even technical. It can be simple to understand, practice and easy to get results. Everybody compares everything to the best golfers on tour so if you have perfection and can swing like Rory congrats. Most golfers can't swing like a PGA tour player nor do they want to try. When most golfers try they move the body so much it drastically decreases clubhead speed and direction control. Think about what your saying though. If I would want to increase my bench press I want to work on my legs and biceps. That could help but working on the bench and triceps would give by far the best results. In golf most golfers don't swing the club they move the club without any type of speed or release. Just give it a try before assuming it doesn't work. Put your feet together and swing a shaft with just your arms as hard as you can and then try it again with the assist of your hips and shoulders and analyze the difference in sound of the two swings. If the sound is similar I would conclude that the majority of the speed is from your arms and if not then your right the speed comes from your hips and shoulders. If the major majority does come from your arms then train your arms for more speed and good luck with the drills. My stats have shown that training correctly daily with over 75 students for 6 weeks has gained 13 yards on irons and 27 yards with a driver. Results for the average golfer will always come from drills that average golfers can do. Good luck Rory but when did he not have club head speed? Come on Tom, Harry, Joe and Bobo you can increase your club head speed by doing these simple drills. go to www.golfimprovementaids.com and check out the "Ripp Stix"

Always start your back swing as the pros do with the push/ turning of the handle by the lead hand which guides the club head to the top of the swing; trail hand passive. Now In order to reverse direction of the centripetal force of the club head at the top of your swing; on the downswing tug the handle hard with the lead hand as you push the handle of the club hard with the trail hand; throwing the club head even faster through to the end of your swing The opposing hands in a golf swing is the key to the golf swing. The rest of the body will sequence itself automatically.

Hi Greg;I found your site by accident while surfing tips. Considering what is taught on "the golf fix" on the golf channel, & others on golf telecasts like Kostis, which is from the ground up using the entire lower body, especially the hips for speed, why do you teach the opposite? When I use my hips, I tend to turn too much so that my hips are too far in front of my arms which then have to catch up. I'm definitely going to try your way to check the difference. I saw another teacher give this exact same tip, which if I'm correct, has the arms controlling the body turn. I also just saw an older tip of you explaining the proper golf grip which I found to be the 1st I've ever seen with that much detail, including the pressure application with the fingers. I've taken lessons from a few people over the years & have never had them explain the grip that well. This seems to be an issue with many teachers. It is said, without a proper grip, you'll never play properly, but yet teachers don't give that kind of detail when teaching the grip. I've watched some of your other tips also, & found them to be excellent so I'll be spending some time here. Glad I found your site.

+Mike Rodrick Hi Mike, I'm really glad you have enjoyed my tips and especially found the grip video helpful. I have been training golfers to increase distance for over 15 years and have had great success. Check out my web site - www.gregsgolfaids.com and look at the Ripp Stix video. This video shows a little more about on working on your swing speed to increase your distance. Training with the Ripp Stix on average will increase the driver distance over a 6 week period of training with females 23.4 yards and males 37.7 yards. My personal guarantee if you purchase my Ripp Stix speed training system is that you will increase your distance for males 25 yards or you get a full refund. I get results not copy what others have to say or follow but use my proven method. Why do I get higher averages than my guarantee because I'm the one that trained the golfers that we took the averages from. I have many colleges using the Ripp Stix to train for speed to increase distance. I have trained girls in high school that are routinely hitting over 250 yard drives. One is my daughter that just signed to play for college and the coach was so impressed with her distance abilities that he purchased the two training systems. One for the school and one personally for himself. If your wanting to increase your distance and are tired of the same teaching that is not producing results try the Ripp Stix for proven results.

@GregJonesGolf
@GregJonesGolf 8 жыл бұрын
+Jayden Lawson Hi Jason, Check out this video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/naSzooRvbMuVec0 - adding weight should always be lighter than your driver. We are doing over speed training. if you want something to be as heavy as your driver just train with your driver and purchase nothing. As far as injuries people also say running may cause knee injury driving a car may result in a crash and buying someone else's product that really works will eventually end up injuring your wrist. Lol good luck in swinging faster. Thank you for watching my Video's P.S. Watching other persons videos may make you hit the ball worse, eventually. Lol

This is wrong. Try “swinging” your arms without rotating your shoulder/thorax and see how fast the arms move. There is an anchor for the arms, which is your shoulder joint (which happens to be connected to your torso which happens to be sitting atop your lower extremity ie. hips and legs). Everything is connected and to generate power and speed, ground forces is a must. This is science and it is proven in tons of biomechanical research and studies.

Ohhhhh. You're advocating a hands and arms swing! Many, many, many studies have shown that the more you use larger muscles, like those in the back and legs, the more consistent your golf swing will be. Also, if the torso turns at a certain speed the club turns much faster. Read "See and Feel the Inside Move the Outside". Thanks.

I always love when others give me advice. Tell me what to read, tell me how to do it. I’ve lived it for 25 years. I can take your game and within 6 weeks increase your club speed through my teaching aids and training methods. I’m very willing to gamble with anyone that is a golfer that my proven method works beyond your personal opinion of how much we can increase your club speed. I need six week and I can increase distance with every club in your bag. Minimum distance with a driver 15 to 20 yards. There is more than one way. Keep open eyes

You know every instructor is the best. Every critic is right. Just ask them they will tell you how good or right they are. My results with hundreds of students is the proof i need. You do your way and I’ll continue to do my way. People that believe their way is the only way or completely discards others success because of there personal ignorance, lack the wisdom and lack of maturity to grow are hard to have discussions with. When you think you know everything and either we agree with you or Were wrong is pretty petty, embarrassing and closed minded. I’ll change my style right away because you are a golf god. Not! This is other training methods I use. Check out the link. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6WUmKuMepKdetE

It is difficult for some to get the arms and the swing working together. Keep working on swinging the shaft it will come together. Little Tip Try to only get power in the impact zone.

Start with wide take away without wrist cock and see how that works then build from there. I find that taking the club to far back disrupts timing. You will find a shorter, but wide back swing gives you more power (sweet spot) and control.
