The main thing I've learned from Haley's videos is that the best way to learn art is to mix technique and skill with fun. Haley (from what I can tell) loves character design, so when she learns things like object and environment drawing, she approaches it with the same attitude she takes to character designing. She attacks it from an angle that is fun and enjoyable for her, while still taking it seriously enough to put a lot of effort in and use references and technique.

Between you and DrawingWithWaffles I genuinely feel like I could learn to draw for myself. I was told my whole life that being an artist was something that you're either born knowing or you will ultimately fail at. And despite my knowing that my family were terrible and abusive towards me, it's really hard to overcome that kind of engrained messaging as an adult. I guess my point is that I wanted to thank you for videos like these. Breaking down the thought process behind how to draw something, rather than "draw some shapes with these lines and then turn it into a person." It really helps me learn how to think about drawing.
@miri5609
@miri5609 3 жыл бұрын
I'm someone who also thought that drawing was some sort of talent you had to be born with, and that's kept me from doing art for years. Four years or so ago though I actually tried, and of course my drawings up until not so long ago sucked, but now I'm actually really happy with them. They're by no means perfect nor professional but I'm getting there. What I'm trying to say here is- if you love art, I fully encourage you to try it out. If I've discovered something these years is that talent and failure are completely fake when it comes to art. I had no idea what I was doing when I first started but i've been learning ever since, and every awful drawing that i made before is what got me to where i am today, because I wouldn't have learned if my frustration and dissspointment in my abilities made me quit I really hope you manage to overcome the feeling of not being fit for drawing that was ingrained into you, I'm sure you'll eventually get there :>

You’ve said this before in another video but I’m glad you kinda mentioned it again For people who prefer to do character designs and hate drawing architecture or objects, it helps a lot to think of it *as* a character or how a specific character would influence the thing you’re drawing _really really_ helps. I’m more of a character drawer and I hated drawing objects and rooms for my comic but now it’s gotten a lot more fun and easy _just_ from that simple shift of mindset.

If you’re designing props for a character, it is fun to think about how you’re not just designing some random boring object. You’re designing an important part of that character’s life. Maybe this is an object they carry with them because of how much they use it and need it. So it’s good to give it a lot of detail!

You don’t have a idea, HOW MUCH the tip about looking up references of the things you are drawing helped me ( I’m I new artist, so things like doing the circles and lines to get a good drawing, seem very hard and boring to me but now that I use references and someday I probably accept that I have to do the basics to grow more! I know how things like you said are important so thanks :) ) so thanks you so much lavender town you and videos are just making my art get better with this kind of good advice !! :)

Yeah, knowing why things are they way they are and how they works helps, I often see cars, guns, aircraft and such drawn in ways that it's clear that the artist noticed certain design elements but doesn't know the reason for them so they end up misplaced or wrong size etc.

I found this really useful for designing my OC's armour. Generally I wouldn't have thought of thinning the lines where it's sharper and adding the more personal touches, and I wouldn't have used any refs, but this video's advice changed that and I'm really proud of the end result.
