drawing 11 wof queen ocs // speedpaint

this took some time
i really wanted to make a bunch of dragon queens (i already had created three of them before drawing this-- can you guess which ones?) and so.. i did! they live in the wings of fire universe, but their world is a bit.. different.
a few generations ago, a war broke out among the tribes. the ones who lost were banished to pantala while those who helped the winning side moved in on pyrhhia. after numerous peace treaties, the two alliances (the pyrrhia alliance being the skywings, icewings, sandwings, leafwings, silkwings and seawings and the pantala alliance being the hivewings, mudwings, rainwings and nightwings) were finally able to coexist and trade with each other. however, recently, rumors have begun to surface that the young sandwing queen, okapi, has been seeking the help of the hivewings and pantala alliance in order to overthrow the skywing reign. tensions are beginning to rise and many tribes are preparing for a full-out war.
so yeah!! that's the basis of what's going on in their world. and since i want to here's a fun fact about each of the queens :)
- hurricane of the seawings: she was hatched with a rare condition that makes some of her scales glow uncontrollably (including her horns and claws). this made aquatic very difficult for her to use, so there's now a dialect of the language spoken only among those who are close to the queen (and see it used often) or in the army (they use it as a sort of "code" so that other dragons who have learned to understand aquatic won't know what they're saying).
- cassia of the leafwings: though many leafwings are farmers, cassia takes it to the next level. her palace is filled with hundreds of different species of plants, and she works in the fields harvesting crops whenever she's not doing her diplomatic duties.
- oleander of the silkwings: being her friend is, in itself, one of the greatest gifts in the world because she loves to give those close to her all of her baked goods, handmade scarves and blankets, extra jewelry, and other nice things. she is often regarded as the "kindest queen."
- polaris of the icewings: an avid navigator, mapmaker, and cunning strategist, polaris is in the top three queens you DON'T want on your bad side. her friendship with queen aurum has provided a welcome deterrent from any attacks, though not many would be stupid enough to pick a war with her.
- junix of the hivewings: she's not the brightest of the queens, but she is a brute with unparalleled charisma. she is surprisingly good at speeches.
- cypress of the mudwings: she just wants to bring her tribe back to the marshes of pyrrhia instead of living on the dry, barren, lifeless continent of pantala. she'll do anything, even bring her tribe into another war.
- celestial of the nightwings: she's not interested in war. not one bit. she actually quite likes pantala. the lack of trees is perfect for observing the night sky. she's the head astronomer of the major nightwing university, and a war just seems inconvenient to her.
- hibiscus of the rainwings: she got her throne the "traditional" way by killing her sister. she is also addicted to tea.
- okapi of the sandwings: she doesn't like to listen to her advisors. so what if her tribe is upset she's picking fights with the skywings? just because they have two incredibly powerful dragons ruling them doesn't mean that she should bow to them, too. she's a queen, they need to listen to her more.
- rubellite of the skywings: lots of dragons think that she's enchanted her citizens to love her. in reality, she's barely enchanted anything. most of it was jewelry for her wife, aurum, enchanted not to melt.
- aurum of the skywings: she isn't afraid often. with her firescales, there's not much to fear. but when she had to watch her favorite daughter challenge her wife for the throne... aurum didn't know who to be afraid for.

i get inspiration from really anywhere!! sometimes it's just words i like (aurum), animals i think look really cool (okapi) or just concepts i think would be neat (hurricane + glowing horns). sometimes it's just a few colors i like :)
