Drawing a Fluffy Cat in Coloured Pencils | Part 4 | Focus on the Face and Ear

Part 4 and we’re getting close to finishing this drawing! Today we’ll be focussing on filling out the rest of the face and tackling the second ear.
As always, I’ll give you a few top tips as I go along and have a chat about things like how to apply varied pressure to achieve the right tonal changes, and how to avoid the common problem of smearing colour on Pastelmat instead of blending.

Transferring Your Image
The best way to transfer your image onto Pastelmat is to use a projector, however you can use transfer paper to transfer. Simply lay the transfer paper under your image on top of your Pastelmat and trace around the outline.

Beautiful portrait! Bonny quick question, I got Caran d'Ache Supracolor instead Pablos, can I use them for portraits?

Never used embossingtools like this. I know how to use m on that vellum like paper to cause the white lines. But did not thought it would work on pastelmat as well. Is there a difference between pastelmat board or plain pastelmat paper? I just have the standard tonal range of the claire fontaine pastelmat blocks with the rice paper in between sheets. Is that the board or the paper version?

Thats the paper version - the board is very thick :)

Do you do just one drawing at a time or do you work on several off and on?

I like to only work on one at a time. I put my all into what I’m doing and find it hard to concentrate if I have more than one on the go. Saying that I do have an art club piece that I work on each week.

@@BonnySnowdonAcademy thank you for your input. I've been drawing again now for 2 years and I only been working on one at a time. I'm trying to not rush to get one done, it's hard!
