Your brush resonates a soul comforting song of clarity. I see oceans, clouds, mountains, caves, rivers, and forests within this painting on a horizontal plane. There are no words to describe the emotion you enabled me to experience and for that, I not only thank you, but I will proudly support you when I am able.

Your self-criticism & humble attitude towards your own work really surprises me, because throughout all the points where you go "oh I know I'll have to go back & fix some of these with black ink" I'm just thinking "It looks quite fine as it is." Then you add the actual black ink corrections & I see what you mean :D you never cease to amaze me.

The comments centered around the "domesticated troll" were really insightful and are part of the reason why watching you is so much fun. Awesome video, once again. :) Hoping to attend one one of those festivals once I find some free time from my surprisingly busy university life.

Dude you are one of my idols. I fight with anxiety and depression and I love art. I connect with you on a spiritual level and love it! You're one of the reasons I branched my art out. The wendigo I drew for my profile picture was inspired by you and your philosophy of letting canvas speak to you

As always, highly informative and entertaining to see you create, mate! 😊 The counter-intuitive approach is a great way to evolve one’s art. Good point on tree lines. Timber is hard 😁 See you at Tons of Rock. I once drew a negative self-portrait. But it was crap 😉

A distant tree line wasn't a good idea from the start - the troll seems shrouded in darkness and very close - if the right side was kept darker and the distant trees were replaced by branches coming in from the sides you could have maintained a close by, shrouded feel. As if the troll was in front of you in a dark forest, with a torch or some moonlight illuminating the paintings left side. It looked very fun to paint.

What I love about these longer videos is that I personally is that the slower process chages my perspective. Like at 6:41 you start spattering ink around the troll, and it starts to breath more.

Your art reminds me a lot of Stephen Gammell. At the same time, I love how your work takes its own shape and your own unique style and techniques. I loved your video on Cthulhu as H.P. Lovecraft is a favorite author of mine. I would love to see your ideas on some of the different Night Gaunts and such from his stories. Honestly, I feel much of his work has this grandiose unfathomability or idk other worldliness that leaves a lot up to the imagination. I personally really enjoy this and would love to see your interpretations. You're so talented and I love all the information you give in your videos! Thank you for all your hard work!

Thinking in terms of highlight- white on black- rather than in terms of shadow- black on white- is definitely such a different mindset. Obviously, you are a man of great talent, great skill, with plenty of practice behind your technique. Hearing that even accomplished artists struggle, when trying something outside their usual wheelhouse, is comforting. I also enjoy working light on dark sometimes, even though dark on light is more common. I quite enjoy the difference. I find it can actually help enhance my understanding of "normal" drawing: remembering where the highlights should be, when filling in the shadows, can be immensely useful to keep in mind. Always a balance, between light and dark. I've fairly recently been playing around with painting with bleach on black t-shirts. That's a light-on-dark method. It's extra challenging, because the bleach takes a little while to fully activate, so it's like painting in *super* slow motion. You can never quite tell exactly how a brush stroke has gone, until it "develops" several seconds later. And then continues to lighten over time, or maybe does not lighten as much as you thought it would. It's a challenging medium, but it's been fun to play with. Great drawing, as usual! I bet this guy would look PHENOMENAL as a bleached t-shirt!! With your fair use permission, I may just try it, and see how it turns out!

I like the idea that trolls are part of the landscape and are always there, waiting. Have you seen the film Troll hunter? All the trolls were elemental, as if Norway was held together by trolls. Wonderful movie. I know drawing negatively can look odd but this is perfect, caught in the light of a full moon ❤

Apologies for my attempts at phonetic spelling here lmao. As an English speaking American, how you started to say "maniacal" sounds like the way I usually hear "maniac" pronounced, as MAY-nee-ack. Which you'd think would be the basis for how something related would be pronounced, but no, English isn't logical, hah. I usually hear "maniacal" pronounced like "muh-NAI-ah-cal".

@DenUngeHerrHolm
@DenUngeHerrHolm Жыл бұрын
Explain the reason? I'm not sure I get it?
@TheMerov
@TheMerov Жыл бұрын
@@DenUngeHerrHolm Primarily it is a nice pun on «Ink monster». Secondly many people believe kink does not have a place at pride, but kink does have a place there. It has been a part of the celebrations in Oslo since 1990 and is an important «seksuell orientering» or sexual identity for a lot of people that people often hide from the people they love. Many kinksters feel shame about their kink. In addition some conservative people claim BDSM-ers are monsters or have experienced abuse and that is why we are that way. That however has been disproved in the 1980s, but the myth and stereotypes from early psychiatry is still there. So there are loads of monsters to take from.
