Drawing a Puppy in Pastels on Pastelmat - Melissa Mancuso Art

In this video I'm demonstrating a drawing of a puppy using pastel pencils on Pastelmat paper.
Supplies used:

*Derwent pastel pencils

hi Melissa.....i have watched many artists on youtube painting animals in pastel but as far as overall painting and teaching you and the puppy are the best that i have seen.....your teaching about every aspect of the pastel painting was just wonderful....been a calligrapher since 1982 and venturing into something new....i will watch the puppy video and others of yours over and over again to get where i want to be...thank you so much.....Marvin

@@MelissaMancusoArt hi Melissa......i would love to take a workshop with you if you had them....if you did just what you did and taught with this puppy many people would sign up for sure and keep coming back....dont want to tell you what to do but i have gone to the Art Students League of NY for about fifteen years and other schools in NYC and truly believe that you are a professional artist.....i am not crazy about time lapse videos, but the voice over that you did with the video made it easy for me to follow what you were doing.....your instruction was so accurate and to the point it made it really fun to learn....i watched it again and learned even more....what was even more important to me was you saying that its ok to try something different or another technique while working on the same piece.....i hear all the time about practice, practice and more practice and making mistakes is how we learn and improve.....sometimes when its not working i quit and then procrastinate for a week before getting back to my drawing table....so thank you...Marvin

WOW, your a master at this, I am just starting with pastels and coming from graphite Pencil drawing I much prefer the detail of pastel pencils...Have a 36 set of Pitt pencils and some pastel sticks too. The sort rembradt set I have, not having much fun with the soft pastels. Hope to do a pet drawing sometime this year.

Fabulous! I've just started out but I'm finding it hard to find the right colour for my picture. My Cockapoo's is cream and apricot but I can't see do find the cream colour anywhere. My Pitt pencils do not have cream! Can you advise where i can buy a cream pencil please? This would have to be online of course as I"m in England not the USA!!!

Stabilo Carbothello has a few cream-colored pastel pencils that I probably used for this :)
