Using black pencil is a little scary for me, I found that it was too extreme for the work I was doing. I'd like to try it more though. I like how you used it here.

I hear you! I like to layer black or 90% grey under other colors to darken the values. I almost always layer another color on top of the black unless I am coloring in a background. But, you're right, depending on what you are working on, it can be too extreme. I drew these apples a few years ago and find that I use black much less often now than I did back then.

Wanted to ask this I’m from India and I tried finding alternative for solvent that you use but unable to figure out if there is any such alternative which will be less costly so if you could help me with few names by any chances would be very helpful

Look for Odorless Mineral Spirits, Odorless Paint Thinner, or Odorless Solvent. Some name brands are Gamsol, Utrecht NOOD, Zest-It, Daler Rowney Low Odour Thinner, Maimeri Odorless Thinner. Hope this helps!
