Wow, positioning the circles first for the nose/eye line made such a difference for me, I used to start with positioning the ears first, but then I would have the problem you mentioned of having a too small chin for the mouth!! Thank you so much for the tutorial!!
@BabanIllustration
@BabanIllustration 7 жыл бұрын
ohh i used to have the small chin problem too! yeah drawing a circle helps you to understand the proportions before you finalise them, lots of poople draw noses too low and that's how i learned to fix it. np glad they're he;pful!

I'm reasonable with heads and faces, but could REALLY use a video like this for bodies. Any chance one is in the works? :D Excellent channel btw. I'd donate through Patreon if you had one...

I was planning on making one actually, im planning on carrying on with my components of a style series if i can get enough people to support me making it, ill go into more stuff with that

Cool! I figured heads were probs one of the more difficult things to do, so really put a lot of time and energy into that, and now I can do decent heads, but my bodies are kinda sucky. :p I'm subbed, so I'll be looking out for more! Thanks for the awesome videos, they really are a lot better than most, and I've watched a lot.
@BabanIllustration
@BabanIllustration 8 жыл бұрын
aa thanks man! and yeah with all the features heads can get pretty complicated, and its usually what people learn to draw first because taht's where you look first instinctively anyway. bodies are a lot less dense and are made up of fewer shapes so it comes down more to learning placement and proportions.

I enjoyed your tutorial, as it gave a simple explanation and showed a good number of varied sketches and directions, along with showing the next steps as you start to ink a bit over the sketches. However, I think you need to tone down how much you shit on your sketches in the second half. It's really demoralizing to me personally to see you just shit so hard on these sketches that I would be insanely proud to have made. It really turns the entire mood sour and makes me lose motivation. I understand that artists rarely are content with every single thing they draw, but still, I think when making a tutorial like this, you should take a bit more care in keeping the mood positive, regardless of your feelings. Overall, I still enjoyed the video, but it really is a pain to get through the part I enjoy seeing the most (inking). P.S. I want to clarify, I think your commentary is useful, but your negative commentary is detrimental.

you're right, this is a pretty old video, i was i was way too ready to shit on my stuff back then, ive calmed down with it in my recent vids. thanks for the comment though! i like to get ones that are helpful and go into a bit of detail so i can fix it!

Yes, this was helpful. I like the shoulder/collar bone diamond. Can you draw anything else? Is this what you call your style? I see youtubers who can draw just one thing talking about their "style" it seems like a very limiting thing that also stunts ones growth as an artist. But whatever.....
@BabanIllustration
@BabanIllustration 8 жыл бұрын
ty! Uhh yeah i just tend to go more towards characters because that's what i'm interested in and am trying to learn, i don't post everything that i draw. and style doesn't mean that i only ever draw in it, it takes a lot of experimenting to actually come up with one, i just only post finished stuff that's stylised because it's finished, anything elses is study and me working towards developing my style. i wouldn;t say drawing in a style is stunting unless you don;t actually understand what you;re stylising. my style is wayy different now anyway, this old stuff is cringey.
@angrybrick8525

Any artist leans towards one way of doing their art, whether they realize it or not. That's their style, it's not at all limiting and actually helps them grow and develop their skills.

why is this comment so passive aggressive lol? sounds like a rich suburban mother forced to buy clothes at a flea market or something. "is this what you call a 'style'? dont you have anything else in stock?" but whatever....

This is some great advice, I've never used a diamond like that before! It's super helpful because the back vertex of the diamond marks the top of the spine/bottom of the neck, and I often have trouble filling out the volume behind the shoulders. Helps to stay loose, too!

First of all thank you for your useful tutorial lessons. Drawing was my dream. Unfortunately, for several reasons i could not concentrate on this hobby. Anyway, i feel the need to be interested again especially that i am on retirement now. One thing i would like to point out. Will it be much illustrating to use a sphere with sections on it to show dimention changes?

I have SERIOUS issues with drawing how the neck and jaw bones connect with the cranium.. The angles of chins and cheek bones.. But THIS VIDEO!!! Made! Me! Actually! Identify! What! I! Was! Doing! Wrong! Before this I just knew what I was doing LOOKED wrong, or that it definitely wasn't anatomically correct... The faces looked flat, if that makes sense? They didn't have the curves and correct angles they should, and because of that my eye, ear, nose, and mouth placement was SO jacked up! But this really, really helps. Gracias ese!
