That’s exactly what art is: random splotches of color that fool the eye. That’s also what life is….random lights and darks pushed together. Our brain processes it all into a cohesive picture. Just like it does with the blotches of light and dark color. Realism is essentially just a very patient process of recreating the light and dark blotches faithfully. The real art is making something that never existed before using the things you learn in realism. And breaking the “rules” of realism…which means essentially playing with the illusion.

I’ve started out as a traditional artist for years b4 I switched to digital and they are both difficult in their own way. At the end of the day a digital tablet is jus another tool like a paint brush and it all comes down to the artist experience and knowledge of the subject they are drawing.

To put it into perspective, this is 38 hours of work compressed down into 11 minutes. The level of detail is still insane, but I am not at all surprised that by the time it took to complete it.

Well that is because it pretty much is the source image. He traced the source image on PC (so theres pretty much no drawing included). Printed it on a stencil. Aplied the stencil onto the paper (you can see that in the video). And then colored it in. That said he is really good at coloring it in.
