This is great! What a wonderful idea to take away the all the problems with proportion and everything else going on in an image and just stick to the line quality for one item. This is a great exercise. ❤

I love the format of these videos. Following along to practice makes for a great exercise. Thanks so much for breaking this down into strokes and making foliage less overwhelming!

It’s the mindset of looking at the overall effect of the foliage, and trying to g to draw that, not thinking of leaves that is the key. All the best with it. 😀

Another Fantastic lesson Stephen . Trees are often part of a scene, and your techniques are SO HELPFUL! It was great to see the many varieties you have explained so simply. (We’ll make an artist of you yet !!!) LOL 😂 YOU ARE, AS ALWAYS, a wonderful teacher. I can’t let a day go by without seeing what treasures you have in store for us. Jim.

Thanks Jim. Such a generous comment - much appreciated. And in today’s video I draw a tree so you can put it into practice if you want. 😀

This was very helpful. Most of my foliage usually looks the same. Following on with you helped me to produce more interesting marks and also has given me more confidence to do a drawing of some foliage I took in Jamaica.

this is my favorite video of yours! Seeing the variety of marks all together on one page gave me such an immediate insight to your approach to drawing not just trees, but anything.

This is such a fabulous exercise! I am working on a scene with different foliage, so I am going to make little boxes and try out each tree in them for a practice run! This is awesome!

Stephen I have a problem... Or rather a desire to make realistic fine Weaver bird's nest with pen... And somehow I am not getting it how... Could you give a tutorial on nests?
@stephentraversart Жыл бұрын
I’m afraid I’ve never drawn a nest or have any reference material, but the principle is the same. Draw the overall effect, not in too much detail , except in a limited way in the most visually prominent area. Give it a go. 😀
