Thank you very much. Great video. I had some one break down the five basic shades to me that he uses and improved my art work a lot and you actually go into depth with 3 more other gradients of shadow. I will use this and jot down some notes later. Love your artwork. You are so anonytomically (i cant spell eather, lol)correct & spot on with your portraits, fast to. You make it look so easy.Love your pieces.

I have a rudimentary question about charcoal. If I were to begin a drawing in charcoal and get to a point where I need to stop I would spray it with a fixative to prevent smudging. Is it possible to finish the drawing at a later date after I've sprayed it with a fixative. I'd really appreciate a response. 😊🙏🏽

I dislike my "charcoal paper", it's too heavy a grain. I do love newsprint- but that has drawbacks. Can you suggest something in between?

I just want to express my opinion, so I'm not trying to be a cretin here or trying to show off but the cast shadow is pointing from right to down the left while the light is coming from above on the right top corner which makes that cast shadow a bit unrealistic in my opinion.

This was great. You explain well. My question is how does one get smooth application of charcoal, so that skin looks silky smooth. A video explaining would be great. Thanks.

Im having trouble lifting the vine charcoal even if applied lightly and smoothed. On Hahnemuhle Drawing and Sketching paper, 140gm for pencil, charcoal, pen and ink the vine charcoal seems to stain the paper. It is pretty impossible to lift and create highlights. It isn't that textured either as I found the smoother the paper the easier it seems to lift the vine charcoal with a kneaded eraser. I have some Arches hot pressed water colour cotton paper 300 gsm which will try. The cold pressed was too textured and the charcoal again was difficult to lift. The charcoal is english coates artist quality so I don't think that would be the issue. Any guidance please?

Is this a tutorial to understand the way you do the highlights on your art work with the faces you make on trying to make them look more realistic?
