This is a big help as someone who's trying to learn charcoal. As a dominant graphite artist, I commonly get impatient with shading but I find charcoal is much different as it is a more brittle material. I smudged trying to simulate light too early, but I see blending is only done one the basis of the face is complete. The use of the paper stump as a eraser is also something I hadn't thought of using in that particular way.

I like your style drawing using carchoal..I try it but carchoal that I use is sharp so make little deep scratc to paper and hard to erase...make me doubtful...may I ask a suggestion..thank you very much.

I don't know what charcoal you use, but find and use a softer charcoal.🤔

How long do these portraits take to make? What makes Nitram Charcoal stand out from any other brand?

From an hour and a half to two, I don't think nitram is the best charcoal, just find the right one for yourself.

There are so many portraits of realism, like the photo.🤔 I wanted to express it a little differently. That's why it's an expressionist portrait, expressing charcoal strokes according to my feelings.🤗

Try wiping the tip of the paper stump on an eraser.😅
