Meeden Floor Easel... is it worth it?

Today I give you a thorough review of the Meeden Arts Studio's H-Frame Artist Easel. It's a beautiful floor model easel, but beauty only gets you so far. Is it good, bad, or meh? And, just as important, is it worth the asking price? Currently, on July 9, 2024, it sells for $169.95
Meeden sent me this easel to review, and since I already have a more professional easel that I will continue to use, I have no reason to skew this review one way or the other. My job is to give you my professional full-time artist's opinion.

I feel the need to mention that you might be able to paint with two paintings on this easel, if you are sitting, as you paint on painting on the bottom. This will only work if your painting is not too large since you'll have to almost be on your knees to paint along the bottom of your canvas. But, hey, you do you!

Nice review !! I have just bought and assembled this very model and overall I am quite happy with it !! I too, encountered the swinging “problem” from the base of the frame, hence my searching for an explanatory video … which you nailed for me !!! Thank you for your detailedbreview … it absolutely helped !!

@@SteveAtkinsonFineArt Although it HAS helped, I can’t help feeling that it is a design flaw !! I personally prefer the option of a slightly leaning angle to work on and as much as I fiddled with knobs etc I couldn’t solve the riddle … perhaps there is a way but it eluded me !! Ive now opted to secure the swing with a small 2” G-Clamp on the cross bars !! It actually works well !! If you figure solve the riddle tho please let me know … Otherwise I’m actually quite pleased with the rig !! Once again .. Thanks

Thanks Steve. There are a huge number of easels out there to choose from. Your video helped me in making a decision for my next purchase. Do you have a setup preference for when you paint outdoors?

Oh sure I do. It's been on my video list to do one about my plein air set up. But to give you a hint, I presently use the Strata pochade box for my outdoor painting setup. It's fabulous!

Hi @NIGEL664 My professional easel is a Hughes Model 3000 and you can find it on this page: hugheseasels.com/products.html It's a large easel that can handle very large canvases. I regularly paint 60" paintings (it can handle much larger paintings) on it and they are manageable because of the counterweight system that enables me to move these large heavy paintings with one finger, up, down, and side to side. According to the Hughes website, it's now retailing for $4,299.00

The tray looks like it has a lot of play side-to-side when you loosen it to adjust the height. Are you able to tighten it down in a crooked position?

@Holyfuckingshit40000 there is play in the support brace that allows you to tighten it straight or crooked if you want to. I tighten the bottom support brace first, put the canvas in place, then lower the top brace into place.
