Speaking as a day-job compliance guy and 125 year old house rennovator, I'm very glad to hear your promotion of permitting. Not only the requirement, but also most of those folks are only there to help keep us safe, really. Help a person out who's just trying to help us out. (I hope everyone's permitting inspectors are as good to work with as mine were. Awesome.)

Hope your heater works without any issues. It will come in handy real soon. Great job!

Not sure why, but I have a feeling it will work just fine. If not, it’s a pretty simple machine to fix. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!

I rode right by there Sunday in my way to Ward. Glad you are fixing up the old place and helping beautify DT Johnston. I hope someone does the same to the old VE Edward's building and maybe one day the old movie theater.
@DraysWorld22 күн бұрын
I have been inside the old movie theater, it would take a lot to bring that back to life. I think the VE Edwards building is a goner in the near future unfortunately

@DraysWorld I remember seeing Firefox with Clint Eastwood and The Cutting Edge in that theater when i was spending the summer in Ward with my grandmother. It's a shame. And the roof cave in at VE is terrible. It had a running business thrift store 10 or 12 yrs ago before the owners moved the store to Ridge Spring. Cheers to you guys for the effort you are making.

Oh I loved this about the pulley's both the lessons you talked about and the set up and how easy it all went after what must have been a lot of prep work! Thanks for your story about your favourite teachers but especially about your 7th grade science teacher, Mr. Bichler. My husband was a teacher and loved it and the kids he taught. When he passed away I received so many cards and letters from former students who just loved him, too. Thankful you had a Mr. Bichler, and I'm sure he enjoyed having you in his class. Blessings as you continue on and what a difference you have already made! BTW, Sarah looks so lovely even when working! How does she do that? 🙂

Yes quiet little place with 2 miles of traffic jams on opening night of a big hit! George Washington stayed the night here also in a small wooden 4-6 room house. It was in poor shape in early 1900s and was being used as a barn.

Will the fan make this unit sway on its mounting? Will the gas line and conduit make it a bit more stable? Love the pulley system. I helped a neighbor/farmer pull some stumps a few year ago. Amazing force multiplier....But ...the amount of rope was daunting!!!
@DraysWorld23 күн бұрын
The amount of rope needed is incredible. It does make it easier, but you need miles of rope. The fan won’t cause much of a sway with this style of heater as one might expect. The gas piping will create a more stable situation, but there won’t be much stress on the system by way of movement.

Teachers, educators are the most important people because they teach us. It is too bad they get paid so little to do so much.
@DraysWorld23 күн бұрын
I agree. They are definitely the most influential people in our lives most of the time aside from our parents or whoever raises us.

It might be different locally there, but won’t you need some seismic to keep it from rocking we used to use Unistrut to also build the seismic sway protection.
@DraysWorld23 күн бұрын
I’m not sure about that as it wasn’t in the required installation process but thank you for the insight. I’ll look into it. Thanks for watching!

You need to be friendly to the people to whom you apply for permits. Don't make them mad. Don't think you know what you're doing, even if you do. Ask questions and make them feel important to your project. Let them do their job.

Please be careful about wrapping ropes around arms, if the load slips it can cause injury far greater the rope burn vs a hand over hand approach.

Discontinued in 2004? HA! I called the manufacturer of my furnace boiler in 2015 and was asked to verify the model number. They then transferred me to a department that handled discontinued products. After giving her the model number, she told me that model was introduced in 1941 and discontinued in 1954. Mine was the smallest size of the model line, at 250k btus. The largest sizes went up to 1M btus and were primarily installed in schools and churches. My plumber had measured it at 20% efficient. I replaced it with one that was 95% efficient. The local utility gave me a rebate based upon a 75% efficiency gain. The state of PA gave me a rebate based upon replacing the original with something more than 90% efficient. The Feds gave me a tax credit for installing an energy efficient boiler. The first three months of winter's savings on natural gas paid for the rest of the new boiler. Seven years in, the new boiler developed a leak in its water jacket and needed to be replaced under warranty.
