This is an excellent doctor. My taper took 5 years because of old age and health problems. My doctor was patient but knew nothing about tapering. Best thing I learned was to taper at your own pace, only what you can tolerate, but keep going. Half a tablet is a huge reduction.

@@stevechan6244 I would talk to your Dr and try to get prescribed diazepam as it’s the most easiest to taper off. I’m currently on 6mg a day ( which isn’t a large amount). To put it into perspective 1mg of Ativan = 10mg diazepam. I’m on liquid diazepam so I can reduce at 1mg increments. I’ve also stopped taking it every day. I try to go as many days as I can before I feel the withdrawals coming on. It’s a slow process but coming off benzos too fast is horrific. So yeah I’d advise you to talk to your Dr about this. Hope it all works out for you.

@@DrBAddictionRecovery thanks! Is it normal to have periods of depression after 4 months off of benzo use?
@kevk741
@kevk741 3 жыл бұрын
@@ryanstoudt8381 yes. I experience this symptom 9mths med free. I am physically and emotionally blunted while my brain is healing. Please inform yourself of protracted benzodiazepine injury. I noticed I was injured for 12-18mths after each benzodiazepine cessation. Please also become aware of the concept of “kindling.” My withdrawals and injuries became more severe and more protracted with each successive benzodiazepine cessation. I have a very specific view of benzodiazepines (procedures only, physical tremors) You don’t use a drug class used surgical sedation for anxiety. You just don’t. Now that I’ve been severely injured from prescribed dosing (daily and initially PRN) I realize I was unknowningly getting hurt while ON a benzodiazepine (tolerance withdrawals /interdose withdrawals) that was taken 1x/day @night for sleep, and also while stopping (Protracted Benzodiazepine Injury/BWS), becoming impatient and discontinuing the last 0.5mg/day in 60 days. I used to champion their use, now I completely disagree outside very specific cases. My brain is still bathed in glutamate from this syndrome. Calcium Ion channel+ messed up. I have movement disorder like akathisia and 24/7 internal vibrations, depersonalization/derealizarion, severe tinnitus, physical depression, blunted emotion... 40+ symptoms that are FACT not fiction. Medicine needs to hear these stories. The are real and EVERYWHERE. You don’t take these things daily. Once you get old and have renal impairments, benzos got wrong anyway? By that time, coming off is a horror show? It can be a horror show after 4 weeks? I’ve seen it? I hear about it daily? These stories are out there!!! It’s not addiction, it’s a potential neurotoxin.

There is no help for Benzo Withdrawal Syndrome . I took as prescribed for 10 years and was cold turkeyed because my primary doctor was afraid he might lose his license with changing laws. It is the most traumatic event that ever happened to me. It is absolutely inhumane. Thank you for saying that doctor. I was fortunate to have another doctor read the Ashton Manual and treated me and let me taper to my own accord for two years and then I leaped. However, those two years I was mostly bedridden and suffering daily. Still am. Things lessen but we need help and there is none available. My primary doctor said Protracted Benzodiazepine Withdrawal Syndrome is impossible, that it can not last two years. He is wrong. I am suffering still physiologically. Please keep educating and advocating for the benzo community who have lost countless friends to this suffering. It is a hidden epidemic that needs recognition. Thank you Dr B for all you're doing. God bless you. I hope I make it.

You do understand people are prescribed this and can become physically dependent in as fast as a month. They can have tolerance withdrawals which then causes them to go up in dosage PRESCRIBED by their unknowing or apathetic doctors. Do not criticize or degrade people who are taking as prescribed calling them destructive addictions. Wait until you're Ina nursing home and are given it with no warning and then ripped off and living in hell. The withdrawals can cause permanent brain damage and even death you tw@t. This isn't just people trying to get high. These are people desperate to get off bc besides alcohol it is the only withdrawal that can kill you.

Reduced your intake by 25% every two weeks. If time isn't an issue you could go longer. After you feel that you are ready, reduce it to another 25%. For example, I am currently taking a 2 mg Xanax bar. 1. Take 1.75mg of Xanax for two weeks 2. Take 1.5 mg of Xanax for two weeks 3. Take 1,25 mg of Xanax for two weeks. 4. take 1.00 ng of Xanax for two weeks. That is about two months of tapering half my dosage. If I repeat those steps I will be Xanax-free in 16 weeks, 4 months!

your work is not going unnoticed. i got myself into a pickle but im almost out of it and it was just a dumb but high dose 4-5 day binge at first. then it hit me. fuck. i HAVE to take more now since i didnt stop at day 1-3 and took way too much. it gets you so easily.this started the 18th and it was a bromazolam binge and i tapered that down RAPIDLY from the insane doses i was taking. (i dont know, it was unmarked blotted paper supposedly 100 3mg blotters but they didnt perforated it.but it got up to 50+mg a few days id assume) up until a few days ago. it was very bad for a few days. i didnt sleep for 3-4 days and then a few days ago i satarted clonazepam after getting down to guesstimating 6-12mg of bromazolam. i took 1mg in the evening and slept not well, but i did sleep and felt SO MUCH better.i took 0.5 mg of clonazepam last night and didnt sleep well. im waking up alot and swaeting a bit. i plan to see how i feel tonight. i want to try and jump off now but if i feel as if i wont sleep i will take another 0.5 tonight and then maybe 0.25 the next night. i was so close to being in the meat grinder. These are powerful, very useful medicine. they can be lifesavers but INCREDIBLE respect must be given to the medicine and most importantly, yourself. Dont put yourself through hell. it took me until im 32 this year to finally know who i am and want to be. i have almost conquered my mind and i will continue to grow stronger and do shadow work my entire life. People like you Doc are saving so many lives that will go out to exponentially grow this network of helpers and GOOD KIND HUMAN BEINGS! We will change the world! also psilocin in micro doses and after the taper, proper macro dose could transform certain people and help waaayyy over 50% of people that would try it. we have so many plant medicines out there. dont even get me started on ibogaine. much love to everyone struggling.

Sometimes, people need to be told to exercise, sleep right, eat a more balanced diet, quit drinking so much alcohol, quit social media, put the phone away, and learn how to cope with stress. This would probably resolve a majority of peoples' anxiety symptoms... it's much easier to cope and practice what therapy teaches you when you're taking care of yourself. This isn't what people want to hear from a doctor, but these people also don't understand what they're getting into with benzos. People are obsessed with "fixing" problems instantly with a pill, probably partially because Healthcare costs are so insane. No one wants to pay $30-40 to see a doctor for 15 minutes only to be told what they already know.

I was on benzos for almost 15 years and after trying and failing to get off by myself, including a couple of seizures, I finalize found a doctor who would do a long taper with me. I started at 6mlgs alprazolam (Xanax) and switched to 30mlgs of diazapam (valium) because it's longer acting and much easier to titration. The other drugs prescribed for this were Buspirone (Buspar) for anxiety, Clonidine a blood pressure medication also for anxiety and hydroxizine (benadryl) for sleep. Also my wife works in the cannabis industry and towards the end of the taper I leaned on cannabis really hard because I had no appetite and was massively depressed. Almost two years later and almost all the post accute withdrawal is gone. Now I'm left with all of my original problems and having to feel all the things I numbed out for so long. It's a journey.

I'm also still with mom which I'm ashamed and embarrassed about but I'm changing my thoughts because I can't keep goings-on on this way and drugs are not the answer for me. I never had a happy childhood and never got a chance to enjoy myself. I lost my only best friend 19 years old and have been damaged since then. She dedicated her life to successfully getting people off benzos safely and humanely by an extremely slow micro-taper. I’m not an addict. I’ve been taking Klonopin as prescribed for near 20 years, and her method is what everyone in the benzo community (people who are like me) are advising. Basically, if you don’t know Heather Ashton, you don’t know Benzos. Thank you if you respond because we, in the benzo community revere her work, for good reason. My question is whether you’d be willing to educate yourself on it. The more aware doctors we have, the more effective, safe and humane our tapers can be. Thank you ☮️ We truly need benzo wise doctors to effectively help us.

In the hospital, they put me back on the medication and I was fine. Found a new Dr who reduced my dose and I did well. My problem now is I have been told I am now 80 I have to be on this for the rest of my life. Most Doctors do not know or understand the danger of this drug. Thank you so much for giving us a clue about what is happening in addiction, and how to even imagine getting out of it. My son is addicted to Xanax and he’s thinking he can do it himself because he has no insurance, but he’s going to see a doctor soon.thank you for not making this like a infomercial where we have to wait in a minute you’ll tell us and in a minute you’ll tell us you just told us everything so thank you very much. Xanax is basically banned in Australia. Its an S8 medication which means it’s basically impossible to get thank god for that! It seems to be useful for 3 days then your tolerance grows, your addiction grows and suddenly you’re up the creek. I got addicted in the 90s. Had a bottle of 2mg x 100!! After a month of light use it became apparent that my anxiety was worse than ever. I only took them initially because my separation from a terrible person was very stressful! I had never really had anxiety before. I know what anxiety feels like, everyone gets it sometimes, but normally I didn’t suffer from it. Xanax actually gave me anxiety. So to fix the problem I dissolved 15 tablets in 60 ml of water in a bottle.. then I would dispense myself 2ml of the preparation at night time and top it up with freshwater each time and leave it in the fridge. That’s only one milligram and every time you have it afterwards it’s dosage is decreasing in a inversely proportional taper - painless. Worked like a treat. You just have to remove any temptation of taking Xanax when you are a little bit pissed off or upset. I threw them in the toilet- devil’s brew! I am glad that XANAX and is banned in Australia because I can see the problem caused overseas by its continual dispensing.

Thank you for this video. I’ve been on klonopin for 10 years and I just met my new doctor today who immediately took me down from 3mg a day to 2. Her plan for next month is 1mg per day as needed. Needless to say, I need a new doctor. It really is baffling how ignorant some doctors are about benzos.

You got reduced 1mg? That is totally irresponsible of your Dr. 1mg of klonipin= around 20mg of Valium. Here in England they don’t taper you off klonipin as they only come in 0.75 and 2mg tablets. Instead they switch you to Valium which is one of the easiest benzos to taper off due to its half life and you can come down in 1mg increments. I was switched from klonipin to Valium and I’m now down to 6mg and feel fine. Hope things go well for you.

You advice has given me hope that slowly even thou this is an extremely low dose I will be able to reduce further until I'm off it completely. I plan to reduce 1mg a month so hopefully in 6 months time I'll be clean. I love in hope god bless you, I wish we had caring and compassionate drs like you in the uk. ❤

@@DrBAddictionRecovery I like the way you make it feel its in the hands of the patient and the trust you build with them. I think that is very key to helping people get off benzos. Dr. B, I've noticed that what helps also is when you take that small dosage when you're detoxing or tapering, follow up right-wing 12 hours or so is up when the symptoms come back, with a beta blocker it will allow you to go another six hours or so without taking another benzo. Allowing more of it to detox out of you. Yeah you might sweat a little bit but the more sweating the better, and drinking a lot of water as well. That's how I would taper off of Alprazolam

what was some of your experience and dosages and how you tapered?
@SAMEntalhealth
@SAMEntalhealth Жыл бұрын
@@completelytransparent6320 well I'll tell you what if I didn't have that beta blocker it would have been a lot worse. What I did was whenever I felt the most brutal symptoms, I literally just took like 1/4 of a milligram and it would knock it out. But there's a secret to it, you don't just swallow it, no you don't snort it either, what you do is you put that little piece inside of a straw and pinch both sides of the straw, then what you do is you take a swig of a drink, preferably something thick like a milkshake or chocolate milk, and then hold that in your mouth and tilt your head back open your mouth with the drink in your mouth, but before that you pinch both sides of the straw like I was saying and shoe that piece inside the straw until it is a powder, then like I said tilt your head back and drop that powder inside your mouth and then swallow the drink with the powder, the drink is so it can obviously go down easy, but when you swallow it like that with a powder form, it works a lot better it will take all of your symptoms away and then go as long as you can without taking it again. Once you feel the brutal symptoms come back, just repeat,. I hope this makes sense but it worked for me and I didn't have to take a half and then do that for two weeks and then reduce again for two weeks I just did it that way and it worked within days. You can do it, also running help a lot as well. Drink a lot of water and urinate it out as well too, and afterwards I think I got my hands on some klonopin and just took that for like 3 days and stopped and I was perfectly fine no Post Acute symptoms or anyting I could go to sleep just fine

@@completelytransparent6320 main thing is, wait until you're extremely sick, and then take the bare minimum to feel normal and then go as long as you can without it and between that time you're waiting you're letting a lot more of it out. And you're only inducting like 1/4 back into your body so that actually makes the detox go a lot smoother

Dr B. My suboxone doctor asked me if I wanted to take the shot. Every 30 days that is a gel that disolves I guess and gives around the clock treatment. May I ask what you think about this form of suboxone, pros and cons? Have you done a video about this topic? What if I were in an accident with horrible broken bones or something like a car accident, or needed surgery? Would the sugeons or truma doctors be able to control the severe pain in a hospital setting? Hope you don't mind the questions. Thanks in advance. Tim
