The most horrific detoxification was kicking benzodiazepines and methadon at the same time in jail with a high bail. They nurses gave me clonadine 0.5 mg twice aday. Insane hallucinating not sleeping not eating. They put me in the hole because I was out of control. I had a few friends in jail with me if not for them helping me. Chocolate candy . Cake. Cigs . Sacrificing thier phone time so I could talk to my family to comfort the emotions. The hospital staff was uselessness.

Hello Dr.B and thanks for this video (and all the rest!!) :-) You know my story, and I have been on Diazepam for almost 2 years now. I have successfully (with the help of my psychiatrist) tapered off from 25 to 7mg now (since March I am finally on 7mg). I just don't know when I am psychologically ready to give this medication up :-) The hardest part, believe it or not, was to go from 10 to 7mg!!!! The previous gradual taper off went rather smoothly. I also beat myself up for being on a benzo with my history, although I know they have played a major role in my ongoing recovery, so you can imagine the chaos in my head and how tormented I feel ;-) Anyway.. You have been missed and I am so thankful that we have people like you and Parham who are so dedicated in helping us with those informative tubes and the tremendous time you guys spend to make them happen! xo

@@jodavidson1733 Hey there :-) Funny timing of your comment; Today exactly marks my 4th year since I joined rehab and start my recovery journey, and this post of mine has been a reminder of my journey and how much things change in a year (obviously of course, but it is also nice to realise it!). Anyway… Since last March, I have dropped from the 7mg to 5mg (which actually went ‘okay’). It was done gradually, and I was open about it with my psychiatrist. They were not pushy and I didn’t feel it coming as a punishment when they encouraged me to ‘just give a try and we check during next appointment’, usually taking place every 2-3 months. Since then, I faced a bump in my recovery unfortunately, it lasted 2 months. The reason I mention that, is because during that period, I discontinued my medication (I was busy doing ‘other’ things), until I felt ready to get back on track and fight the fight and continue my journey. Please, this is not me giving ideas, and my relapse and medication were not interconnected. Looking back, I would have preferred if I had not relapsed and kept my 7mg or more:-) At the moment, on paper, I am at 4mg/day “when needed”, which for me, for now, interprets as 4mg/day about 4 to 5 days a week, and we are both okay with that (my psychiatrist and myself). I do not feel as dependent on it as I used to for 3+ more years. But also, far from feeling I can just get rid of it. My heart skips a beat at the thought of it :-) Bottom line, I am not a doctor (far from being one), and my advice is simply from my own simple experience which might not be the best approach medically, but: if you are being followed up by a psychiatrist (and I hope you are - I self medicated and it took me nowhere), keep an open discussion, don’t hide your fears around it. Having a push here and there can do good, but don’t let it come as someone forcing you if you don’t feel ready and as long as you are sticking to whatever dose is recommended to you, low or high. And time needs time, a bit poetic but totally true and honest. If you need to talk about anything else or ask me any question about it, I am an open book, regarding my own personal experience (again, I am not a doctor) :-) Best of luck! Take care, always :-)

Aw wow- perfect timing and thanks for the reply Nadim. I’m in NZ and was started on the poison to help with a new SSRI I started right as Covid hit so unfortunately the Drs seemed to be more concerned and preoccupied with that. No I’m not with a psychiatrist and tbh, the Drs have no knowledge of tapering let alone w/d and the last psych I had a zoom meet with, growled at me for not being face to face with him but I have Agora thanks to the Diaz. Plus I was told by the Mental Health team I wasnt having withdrawal from the amount I was tapering and they discharged me saying I wasnt trying. I religiously tapered every 2wks until I got mouth zaps and was given an informal diagnosis of Trigeminal Neuralgia over the phone and put on Tegretol, a mood stabiliser, so while on that I halted my taper for 6mnths till I finally got off the Tegretol, of course all 3 of those meds for the CNS. 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️.I started back on the taper 19 Feb this year at 10.5mg taking it in 4 daily split doses, dropping 1mg off one of the doses at a time and alternating which dose each time to try and keep it even. I did the 1mg drop for 3wks, then the next 1mg for 2 weeks and was feeling quite good and at least functioning but here I am on 9mg and 2wks tomorrow and wont be dropping till I feel more comfortable. I feel crap if I’m honest on Day 13 so I think the drop was too larger amount and/or maybe my sweet spot atm is 3wks. They recommend 5-10% so all I can think of. Anyways thanks again, was interested to hear your story..stay safe and well

@@jodavidson1733 awwww!!! Thanks for opening up back :-) I am always open to talking mental health struggles - this is exactly the reason why, people tend to open up in return and we all feel less lonely, even if just a bit 🤗🥰 I live in the Netherlands, we have a weird system here as well, although I got lucky: you can only be followed by a specialist for a period of 2 years, “until you stabilise”, and then you are moved to the GP who will take me over in a month or two. Exceptionally, my psychiatrist extended for 2 years, because the thought alone of not being followed up by a specialist was going to make me relapse tbh. But now is time, and I am mentally getting ready to be followed up by my GP, who will… listen to that: barely knows me and will have to control my list of 4 psych. meds. It is just so weird how systems are done. From one side I do get the ‘shortage’ and the growing need and waiting lists (world is not helping), but at the same time I just find it weird. If you can allow me to add my 2 modest cents on the matter 😋: 1) search for a psychiatrist, and even if there is a waiting list, then just wait. You will feel in good hands. And try to find one that you can try and do your best to see f2f. I can only imagine the struggle to do so. But believe me, it is important to establish a contact and trust (both sides!). Remember, it is also a responsibility from the other side…. 2) super important that I mention again that I am no specialist by giving any advice on mental health, and all the different diagnosis and how to approach them best!!! But in case you are supposed to taper off, as per a specialist recommendation, try to look at ‘tapering strips’. This can be done according to any plan you put with your specialist, and can go 0.1 every couple of days you both find fit. I know that was going to be an alternative for me, in case I could not do it…. Again, I wish you the best of luck and a lot of strength! You are not alone :-) Xox

@@nadim.88 Thanks for your support Nadim. Pretty sure there are no tapering strips avail here. The scary thing is knowing you are feeling like this and there’s little point in seeing or speaking to your GP who all your life you’ve trusted in their practice. They dont even seem prepared to read up on what this is about and agree, workloads, the world. We put our trust in these professionals and trust for most of us suffering this, is something hard to come by and yet we are trusting of strangers albeit, laypeople who have been through it. Its disgusting tbh. I have no idea if there is a psychiatrist in NZ who specialises or at the very least, knows about this w/d process and tapering but will try and search. You Keep moving forward - its apparently worth it and your mindset sounds like its in the right place. J XO

I am glad that my psychiatrist was discerning and prescribed me escitalopram, and while it was kicking in, they gave me beta blockers for use during public speaking. I was born with a cleft lip and palate, and school and socially, it was very hard. My anxiety was so intense. I feel better now at 33, and still on a small dose of antidepressants for my panic and anxiety.
@andrewmorris9499

I was placed on Klonopin due to chronic anxiety/panic attacks. It got so bad that I was a shut in for almost two years in my early 20s. I’ve been on the same dosage for over 25 years (Kind of disproves Parhams hypothesis). It gave me a life I was otherwise unable to live. Even with the medication it was extremely difficult because I always took less than prescribed. I think you need to be careful not to stigmatize. I work out, eat healthy, work on myself with meditation etc. Be careful to delineate between ppl who truly need medication and those who didn’t really need it. Don’t do a disservice to some of us while tying to do a service. Am I tapering now? Yes. But this is an all bad scenario show and at some point you have to make a choice with medication and the dangers vs. everything else.

Tried to cold turkey lorazepam after 6 years of buying them. Then my dealer couldn't get them. It insane. Hallucinations, hearing voices, feeling scratching on my bed and thumping underneath it. I knew it was Hallucinations and none of it was real and just rode it out. Also heard fckn music playing 24/7 . And talking like on a radio. Not full words tho. I was lucky no seizures as I'd been taking gabapentin. I was sure I'd die. I stopped Hallucinating after 3 weeks, but the music continued. Heart racing. Anyway I managed to get zopiclone. Every thing went away. I have a supply of zoppies. Hopefully they're easier to kick. I've been taking pills all my life. First time I've ever had withdrawals like this. Kicked oxycontin cold turkey. It was a piece of cake compared to this. I'm 68. I won't survive another bad withdrawal.

Hello, I have been on Clonazepam for 25 years at 4mg a day. It started to turn on my according to my Doctor. I was initially prescribed it for anxiety for a short term but clearly continuing to date. Start date was March 17, 1998 at the age of 35. I also was put on a lot of other drugs related to my anxiety. 2005 I started to come down one by one! Yellow, red, white and blue, I was just picking random pills out one by one. Because of life, I stopped reducing my Med’s three years ago, just before Covid. I’m now 59 and May past I was diagnosed being seriously depressed and that my clonazepam was working against me by my therapist. I was given instructions by a doctor starting July 1, 2022 to start reducing my dose from 3mg a day and reduce it .25mg for the first two weeks and then try to reduce it .25mg every week. By the end of August I was down to .75mg a day.I stopped! I have been so sick ever since I refused to reduce it any more! I simply can’t! My therapist basically told me to just suck it up and know it wan’t last. I’m vibrating! I just seen one of your videos and things seem to be making sense! How long do you think it will be until this will level out? Nothing additional was prescribed to help me. All my medication are 4mg clonidine .025mg 6 times a day, 200mg sertraline a day and .75mg a day. Thank you!

I can say for myself, clenazepams have help a great deal with " panic attacks". I feel like its more that I can't control bodily stresss reactions anymore. not so much that I am having anxiety. at first it was clenazepams only when I had severe attacks. now I have sertraline " Zoloft in USA" daily so I don't get into a huge state of attacks. I know what are the root causes of my emotional problems, stem back to childhoods to early adulthood. I can say I am a lot more fonctional with my methadone, sertraline and clenazepams ( maybe 2 to 3 time a month now). my anxiety is alot better managed. without the anxiety medication, it started to mess with my career, my everyday life, I thought I was physically getting sick and after seeing my doctor and having severe tests done she came to the conclusion that it was panic attacks. I am 35 years old. 15 years methadone, about 2 years clenazepams and almost the same for sertraline. and of course I keep seeing my Doctor monthly and I am 100% honest. I have a lot of relief and can move on in my life

If only I had known three years ago not to rapid taper off long term benzodiazepine prescription, possibly my cns would not be stuck in a ‘fright’ feeling, and my cognitive function might be more normal. I was rapid tapered over 11 days in a hospital detox setting. Three years on my brain & nervous system are still not healed… it has been horrific and very costly, particularly involving family relationships. Not one Dr iv seen has treated me specifically as being in a protracted withdrawl, or whatever ‘this’ nightmare is called.

Doctor... it is very hard to find a doctor that can properly treat addictions. Please read this: I have been on Lunesta for 21 years and was taking 2 pills 6mg for two years. I then had high blood pressure and was told I would die if I didn't have surgery. While having to wait 3 weeks for surgery I had jumped to 9mg or 3 pills. When I was in the hospital a nurse took my sleeping pills away and I started to have sypmtoms of a siezure with flashing lights and blurry vision. I had just had a triple bypass and was detoxing for 2 days until a surgeon found the nurse and gave me 1 pill. So I cut down to 1 and 3/4 pills and down to 1 and 1/2 and had to go back to 1 and 3/4. After so many years my insurance company would not give me a pill a day. I had to get a lawyer to fight it as the doctor had no luck. So I am afraid of going to a medical detox center because I can't get information about how they will treat me. Can I call you or make a video appointment or?

Hi Dr. B! I was force rapid tapered off of 11 years of Ativan (1.5mg) and 8mg of suboxone in 2019 due to new opiate laws. I got Akathisia about 5 weeks after this rapid taper (7 days of Valium) at a facility. It took almost 20 months to get diagnosed. I was reinstated on klonopin and put in anti-D’s and propranolol. Shortly thereafter I started losing weight abs was diagnosed with breast cancer. I just finished treatment and am experiencing the worst Akathisia yet. I want off the benzo, as I don’t think it’s helping. Do you have any experience with Akathisia and doing a taper when someone has Akathisia? I’m scared for my life, don’t know what to do. This is a great herb but personally I would try Kava kava or L-Theanine. It’s all very personal because everyone reacts differently to supplements and herbs. Some don’t take any. I’m one of those who took them during acute and I am still taking herbs in protracted. Can’t imagine not taking anything. I would probably not survive it. My suggestion is if you want to try magnolia bark take very tiny dose and see how you react. I don’t believe it works as quickly as other herbs though. Good luck!

you will definitely feel it already on the 1st to 2nd day after you stopped taking it. for example Inner restlessness, anxiety, spasmsm burning sensation on your skin, not feeling well...can happen you dont feel any hunger or excess hunger. Furthermore Xanax is not the best benzo for tapering, but you could try if you can cut down to 1,5 - 2,5 bars for 2-3 weeks and then make a quick taper down to 1 or 0,5...as long as it is bearable for you.

hey, do you think after being on 0.5 mg of clonazepam for slightly over a year it will be difficult to quit? im almost, but not entirely down to 0.25 mg. im confident i can get down to that dose, but i am worried about actually abstaining from it entirely. i asked my doctor how likely seizures is when withdrawing from small doses like im on. she told me its different for everyone but did not elaborate. if i am only on a little bit, are seizures fairly unlikely in withdrawl?

See my other reply, as well. I slowly tapered off clonazepam more than once over the years (I knew it was addicting, but I never knew you could develop tolerance). I just went slow and never had problems... other than feeling antsy approx. 7-12 days after last dose (due to the half-life) and it always only lasted 2 days and then completely passed. Just go slow. If too hard to go slow enough with dry cutting, then consider doing water taper over 2 months or so. You haven't been on it that long and that is a very good thing. It's hard to avoid alcohol, but it is helpful to do so while tapering and for a while after off of benzo too.

Hello im aaron i’m 23 years old i live in riverside and have been taking between 1-2 mg of xanax daily since november, they are not prescribed i but them on the street. i also drink very heavily, black outs are weekly occurring. i dabble with cocaine and majority of the time i combine the 3 substances. i do this 2-3 days a week if not more. i am so desperate for change i’m so close to losing my job, family and everything.

Hi Aaron Reach out to Doctor B and his team or myself we both work in Southern California and can both guide you in the right direction. The first step is exactly what you just did here.

Reach out to a addiction medicine doctor or your family care doctor.. switch to other less toxic and pure benzos...stuff on the blackmarket could be anything...

On my first breakout I was scared to death. I thought it was bed bug bites... until I saw a doc. but I googled and read a lot and realised the painful part is the blisters. For anyone who got the herpes virus the best thing to do is contact (doctorojie@gmail.com) . And live healthy. let your immune system do the fighting..

Hi Dr, your videos are beneficial and informative and I'm pretty sure many in the Arab world would benefit from them. If you ever thought about translating them into Arabic, I can do it for you.

I wish people who talk for a living on podcaats would stop asking if they can ask you a question. What a waste of time. Like " i can only speak for myaelf". No crap, they cant speak for anybody anyway!

Hi Gary, Remeron samples were given to me for ptsd depression and gad. It helped with sleep which is the only drug that ever helped me beside clonazapam. My balance was severely affected by 2nd week and fell down a flight of stairs.

@@DukeDeRichleau, No way!!! There is no giving up here!!! Hell yeah it's hard. But there is no giving up! My sister got off alcohol, benzos, beat Leukemia right after detoxing and now she has it again. That takes guts. Now dig deep and pray! I am praying for all of you and I will be going through this just like all of you are. Just waiting for my appt. next week. Life is hard, life is cruel, but you may be just about to turn a corner and giving up now would be a damn shame. You are loved, you all are enough and I pray that you all fight and you all make it. I will do it afraid.
