SCP 5201 is an endemic and carnivorous subspecies of Homo sapiens that have inhabited the Philippines, known in local folklore and myths as the "Manananggal".
SCP5201 was the only known natural aphotic parthenogenetic mammalian species. SCP-5201 asexually reproduce between the 15th to 20th autotomic stage, during which the lower body regenerates its own upper torso via a process similar to epimorphic regeneration observed in autotomous lizards.

Here's one key trait of the Manananggal that is not in the SCP file: The sound it produce is very deceptive. If it's too loud, it means it's far away. But if it's too faint, then you're screwed. Also, "Project Dipsy" is based on real-life mass hysteria regarding alleged attacks of aswangs and the manananggal in the Philippines during the late 90s.

@@i_dont_even_fucken_know It's a supernatural creature so it doesn't really matter. But, the way I always thought about it is kind of like talking. The farther away you are from the person you're talking to, the louder you'll get (like screaming over the mountains) and the closer you are the quieter you are when talking, especially in a public place (like whispering in a grocery line).

That opening reminds me of my terrible life back in Jamica as a kid having to walk with family in pitch black in the country mountains and hearing nothing but gravel crunching and insects chirping, wild dogs in the bushes stalking, with the hairs on the back of my neck standing at all times. It was worst walking along bamboo groves because they always sound almost supernatural with the wind blowing and them crackling, it almost felt like there were invisible people among them watching you in the pitch black. It was horrible.

They are practically two similar aggressive spirits / demons. @@lastofthe4horsemen279 not really. And here's the part that's really catching. In the Philippines it is tradition to NOT allow a pregnant woman to be alone for the very reason of such entities being around. I have 3 kids and all throughout their pregnancies I have been never allowed to be alone especially at night. I live in Manila and this is a known thing. The scenario in the story would be real if the woman would be in small towns called barrios that you would literally have to ride hours from the city. And roofing in the Philippines for basic housinh isn't exactly like how it is in other countries. It's sheet corrugated metal over wood frame separated by 3 feet of space then plywood. No foam or insulation of any kind. So it's pretty much it. Modern ones have better designs. The one in the story follows the sheet metal-plywood bit. Traditional roofing would be thatched roofing over bamboo frames and plywood-a much easier barrier for the mananaggal to go through.

My uncle who I regard highly for his values and all, he is very serious in his practice of his belief, in short he is just the last person who would think will lie about an encounter with a creature like this. But he told us, he once saw the half body of this creature in his backyard at night. He was collecting some banana leaves then which he will use to cook some "moron" (a traditional Filipino dish) when he saw a pair of legs hiding besides the banana trees. When he got close to see a closer look, he saw a half-body of the mananaggal. He was terrified so he went straight home and didn't sleep that night.

You know, it's usually people who believe this stuff the most who will swear that what they see is what they believe. It's a common psychological thing. When I was young, I used to believe in ghosts. I was crazy about all of these ghost stories. When you are very mentally inclined to believe this stuff, then it's not hard for your brain to automatically associate anything that you cannot explain to that thing you believe in. At the time I swear that I could hear voices whispering in the dark, I could see faces or flashing movement in the dark, or hear footsteps at night. Now that I'm a grown up, I don't believe any of this anymore, thus I don't have anymore "paranormal" or unexplainable encounters. I am sure that if your uncle saw whatever he saw but didn't believe these stories at all, then he would have been able to easily explain that it was probably just some tree stump that looked a lot like a lower half or something of that nature. But because he believed that at the time, his brain completed the image of what he saw with what he was most likely to believe it was. I don't think he lied, but I am sure that whatever he saw, was very easily explained with logic. The same process goes for overly religious people who attribute events or images to divine signs and other paranoia of that nature. It's a well known and understood phenomenon.

@@adrianradu2332 Its said everybody has a ghost story. I have two, both can be explained away. When I was twelve and living in Germany I took our dog out for a nightly walk during a dry thunderstorm. There was a small forest on a hill about two miles away that always caught my attention. That night the inside of it was light up like is was filled with strobing searchlights. Year later I learned I had witnessed an unusually large ball lightening display. In 1995 I went to a local diner and had a glass of water while waiting for my meal. I set the glass down after taking a drink. A minute later it moved four or five inches. I had drunk half the contents and the glass was covered in dense condensation. The AC had just come on and one of the vents was next to and directed towards my table, a perfect storm to move that glass without human assistance. Still, seeing things like this do make you wonder, eh?

Additional info as so we thought the lower half is vulnerable think again, even though it was lacking of eyes the lower half have a really keen sensitive sense if a threat is approaching it moves away from 1 spot to another safe and secured distance its like the upper half leaving a mark trail for the other half to follow it even ran to escape its pursuers, but once it’s cornered a defense mechanism will be activate depending on the situation 1st defense it emits a really strong foul smell like an ammonia once inhale it feels like your lungs is burning other effects are nausea and wooziness if that doesn’t work 2nd defense will be activated if the pursuers still coming close it secrit like acid substance from its guts it always aims for the eyes nose and mouth so it can ran away again, if that still doesn’t work the 3rd and final defense will now be an offense the intestines are moving like a tentacled whip lashes all over its range and chases its pursuer in some occasions the lower half leaps from the ground and lunges to the poor victim after the 3rd defense is activated it wrapped around its legs bind it by its guts and pour an over flowing acidic like blood on its victim so the victim will scream in agony for the “Manananggal” get its attention, the manananggal doesn’t always aims for pregnant women they also hunts children elderly or drunk men who are vulnerable to fight back, there’s a different kind of hunting method of a manananggal but that’s another story thank you for this SCP

This Philippine demon is surprisingly easy to eradicate. The required items for killing this entity is not even that difficult to obtain. The only time-consuming part is searching for the lower half. Even back then, a mob of people would search for this monster and kill it by all means. It's no surprise that their appearances ran thin throughout the years.

Well, the SCP foundation were lucky that these creatures didn't form underground organizations of their own much like in the Trese comics. I lost my shit reading the books and saw large groups of Manananngal armed with M-16 rifles going into gang wars with other monsters.

I’m kinda surprised this wasn’t downvoted to non-existence. Usually, having so many cliches and myths be true about a creature (kill it with a bamboo stake, repel it with holy objects, etc) will cause most other SCP writers and reviewers to not like it.

Fun fact: the name Manananggal is derived from the word "Tanggal"... which is "remove / to remove" or "separate / to separate" in Tagalog. Roughly translated, mananaggal means "separator"... One more thing the SCP foundation can use to counter these creatures is to wear a garlic wreath or equivalent. Like vampires, they're afraid of the purifying effect of garlic. Some accounts say they're also afraid of bronze and scythes so that might be able to help kill them if needed. Holy Water also works against them I think these Mananggals are probably the Philippine's equivalent to the Indonensian Penanggalan Anyway, it would be difficult to fully contain SCP-5201 because there is actually a ritual that allows a person to willingly turn in to one. All I know about it is that it involves a "special ointment" and finding a black chick... and a particular incantation I do not know... but once completing the ritual, a person can become one of them

Although SCPs are not real and are just make-believe, some mythical creatures here in the Philippines are known to be real but they can't be seen by a human's naked eye like the "Dwende" known as elves. Or the "Kapre" known as the giants that live in trees, especially big ones. There are many more like the "Sirena" or mermaids, the "Tikbalang" or the half man-half horse, "Sigbin" and the "Siyokoy" which is similar to a merman but has a fish-like appearance. Many Filipinos believe in these mythical creatures especially old people.
