How to make easy bamboo roll up blinds.
For our outdoor kitchen in Hong kong I wanted to make blinds.
To protect us a bit from the sun and rain.
In this video I show you how to make those blinds. It’s an easy DIY project.
Also pretty cheap. One blind cost me less than 10 usd to make.
I decided to go for bamboo because I like the material and those mats are easy to roll. But of course you can also chose a different material if you like to.
It’s very satisfying when you can open and close your own hand made blinds 😉
Thank you for watching 😁

I made a blind following your instructions for the pulley system and it works. I used a piece of paisley cotton (an old drape), some sheeting for the lining, and sticks from a bamboo blind that was falling apart. I sewed channels for the sticks. I love it! Thanks for posting your video. I knew it was possible but I needed to see where the screws and cord would go.

You're an artist after my own heart. THat's just how I would have drawn the schematics. This was very helpful! I am considering making roll-up blinds using heavy 10-gauge clear vinyl shower curtains to make rain blinds for our screen porch. It gets some high winds and blowing rain.

Well its been quite a while now. . . How did it go? Did the winds rip your shower curtain blinds to shreds? Or did you rush out every adverse weather incident and roll them up out of harm's way?
@coconutfraser3851

If you receive this? Hi Kimberley, I'm Albie from Down Under NZ. Knew nothing about this but wanted to clarify, I have a patio, and it gets both wind and rain on two sides, occasionally. Like you, I went out and bought a see-through, plastic-type awning. Quiet heavy.... Q: DID YOUR SYSTEM WORK with just the eyes, for the pulley? THX
@KimberleyB
@KimberleyB 8 ай бұрын
@@coconutfraser3851 Hello, Albie! We ended up using Coolaroo shade blinds, which break up the rain before it gets to the screens. We just have a mist come in during heavy rains now, so we didn't put more money or energy into other solutions. :) We used waterproof fabrics on the bed and cushions, so the little bit of mist that gets in doesn't hurt anything.

Priceless!...thanks so much for you excellent instructions! I have to tackle creating two 4 foot blinds out of bamboo outdoor fencing material (available at HD) because the now government mandated No Cords rule is in effect (I completely understand the need for this change). But we have no pets or little ones around and find the new cordless roll-up style blinds much too cumbersome to manipulate. Love that you used cable ties and eyelets...some of my standard fixings for DIY! I’ve even figured out how to hang standard mini-blinds without using those nasty brackets....just screw eyelets into the window trim or header (we have crappy trim so I didn’t care if it got damaged)...loop a cable tie around the horizontal top post of the blind...feed it tie thru the eyelet and secure it...easy-peasy and done!

That's the same reason I'm here! We just bought a repo double wide and it's got 12 Windows in it some are 46" wide and I saw the prices on aluminum corded blinds and even spring loaded pull down blinds and my eyes bugged out! I'm like, WHERE in the world did all of the NORMAL blinds go??? I'll make my own before I spend a ton of money on something that too many people are complaining about! Unlike you, I don't understand the need for the change! Why can't parents adjust the length of the cord out of the way of the little ones so they can't reach them??? Too busy on their cell phones to pay attention?
