Is the universe twice as old as we thought?
Current estimates suggest that the Big Bang occurred 13.8 billion years ago. But today, we’re joined by Rajendra Gupta, a luminary in the field of cosmology who claims that the universe is actually 26.7 billion years old. I've invited him on the show so he can make a case for his claims!
Professor Gupta is a theoretical physicist currently teaching astrophysics to senior undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Ottawa. His research focuses on astrophysics, cosmology, general relativity, the dynamics of the universe under evolutionary physical constants beyond the standard model, CMB, JWST, BAO, Big Bang nucleosynthesis, the large-scale structure and formation of galaxies, dark matter, and dark energy.
To say I am thrilled to have him on the show for the second time would be an understatement.

Well the James Webb telescope is continually showing us galaxies in the "early" universe that are bigger and older than researchers thought so Rajendra is probably closer to the truth than cosmologists want to admit.

The bigger than expected galaxies are due to misunderstood theory of galaxy formation not the formation of the universe as a whole. The parameters of previous computer models of Galaxy formation left room for adjustment. With those parameters adjusted it easily allows for Galaxy formation in early universe to occur within a expanding universe that is 13.8 billion years old. However if for some reason its wrong and its double that age??? Tomatoes , tomatoes, potatoes, patatas........ very strong composite evidence still points to the universe having a beginning in the finite past.....

That's debunked last I heard. Their error was a miscalculation of the initial mass function. They didn't know that during the re-ionization period that stars burned off their surrounding gas, making them appear much brighter than they really are.

The recent paper by the DES supernova group shows a very clear time dilation from over 1000 supernovae. I do not know what level of accuracy is needed for his model. We (the HZT) showed early that our smaller sample of supernovae ruled out tired light at a certain level.

Interesting new theory with a double the age of universe? As interesting as it is, not sure how it explains the latest JWST data with fully developed galaxies (as early as 480000 years) including Dr Brian’s follow up question of how we as human beings (and solar systems) don’t expand? As much as I agree with Prof Gupta’s explanation of gravitationally collapsing galaxies (like ours) don’t expand - this is where we have extended that logic end to end by exploring an “ integrated light/matter toggle theory” where all galaxies collapse gravitationally moment by moment In other words, our CPT(α,Φ) function of TOE collapses it by auto-collapsing/landing/toggling each particle from CFT into the next lattice of Ads This simultaneous toggle/shift is what gives us the feeling that these CFT/Ads dualities are orbiting smoothly like the frames of Muybridge’s Horse in Motion. In other words, Z(1) is the fundamental frequency of this Universe’s TOE engine that is QVF/ZPE sourced, FSC(α)-Einstein-Bohr-HV-Maxwell Daemon governed frequency of Riemann's zeta function Ζ(S) with a singularity of S=1+0i, that is made up of his harmonic oscillating zeros(S=1/2+it stacked on his 1/2 critical line, before being transformed as a 137 frequency-spin momentum matched dipole, using our FSC(α)-GR-PLA+5 AITGE origin formulas(see exhibit) In other words, our TOE/SOE engine is the one that is transforming the Riemann's zeros into an artistic unit charge SU2 dipole(see visual), by contracting/expanding its electric flux as the center of mass (as r = αR), before rotating its magnetic flux by 90 in such a way that it can be extended into the left plane as a paired unit charge, using the "only possible analytical continuation of Zeta". Imagine, as the CPT(α,Φ ) function starts limiting the “Riemannian ∞ quantum spherical universe” into a compact polynomial region of the lower plane (whose WF is modeled using a metamorphic/automorphic Riemann zeta function with a SU2-3-4 symmetry) -- it is automatically cut into infinite slices of irreducible diploid circular spheres at an exact moment when the Zeta function starts crossing the origin. of CP1 2. Wonderful video! From a purely epistemological POV the idea that the universe has a beginning is counterintuitive. The evidence does point to that though, but I think we might have it wrong. It's not tired light, it's that the expansion is localized in regions that are less dense, which we call voids. The cosmic filaments are not moving away from one another, the logic being that they are held in a kind of stasis by means of gravity alone, opposed (it is said) by a mysterious force that will eventually rip even the densest matter apart. That's not supported by observation (AFAIK). The filaments are not stationary, because they are somewhat fluid, but they aren't getting further away from one another despite the evidence of expansion. That might be because the expansion only happens locally. The tiny variations in the CMB bear some relation to the density gradient of the modern universe. This is explained by suggesting that dark energy is doing more stretching in the voids, but I think it's possible that the expansion is only happening there. Clearly, the evidence of expansion points to the existence of another powerful force, but we can only see its effect from relatively huge distances, and we have only nascent ideas about its precise nature. If the only tool you have is a hammer, then every problem looks like a nail. So many anomalies have been parked out in the cold because they don't fit with the Big Bang, and every observation that can be made to fit is hailed as yet more evidence. But if the Big Bang wasn't the model then the observations would be made to fit that theory, or parked out in the cold. Anyway, it's all hugely interesting, and eventually we will understand it all. Maybe. lol

A possible origin of the so-called 'tired light' is the phenomenon of polarization of the vacuum by the electromagnetic radiation field present. This could change, for example, the susceptibility of the vacuum and so also its effective refractive index. What exactly is the estimate for the observable universe you are referring to, and are you talking about age or size estimate? 93 billion light years is the current estimate of the size of the observable universe, and 13.8 billion is the current estimate of the age of the universe. No one knows how big the entire universe is, and the age of the universe is what was up for debate in this discussion. Your comment was made more confusing by the fact that Brian liked it.

I’ve always wondered about gravity wells. Strange things seem to happen the further out from systems we get. So far, our only data collection point we have traveling outwards are the limited data we receive from the Voyager missions. There are obvious anomalies we’ve discovered on the micro and macro scales. We don’t have a complete picture. Since the inward to Sol information we get is radiation from all directions to us and appears through observation to be the same from all directions we might not see space/time fluctuations that may occur in larger scale gaps between solar systems and galaxies. Minored in Planetary Astronomy and Science. Too stoopid to get a degree in it. But, I went to Space Camp at 13. lol!

All speculations about the origin of the universe (in fact, all assumptions of existences whatsoever, especially particles, rather) MUST be linked to deriving the mathematical model of the mechanism how particle interactions inside the earth's core develop PLANTS on its own surface, to then deliver and sustain living beings here through them. A process that happens billions of times every single day, hence requires NO special experiments of any type whatsoever or observations other than what any lay person could make in own backyards (valid even for any homeless person, because PLANTS are found everywhere). This only demands the readiness to theoretically link the interdependant functions of the 3 entities (PLANTS ANIMALS and HUMANS) to the internal functions of the earth after interpreting DIGITS as unique types of particles with the 4 basic arithmetic operations as the only natural LAWS OF MOTION for all interactions among them. Thus substituting Bohr's anthropocentric correspondence requirement with real particle physical correspondence between calculations inside human MIND and the interactions of particles (= MATTER) inside the CORE OF THE EARTH that composes and delivers it daily, even just now ~ rendering thereby also the assumption of evolution as a historic process superfluous, while in addition making verification of all involved assumptions by any lay person practically possible, by application of the mathematical model so derived, of how PLANTS grow, in day - to - day practice. All hitherto human search for knowledge by describing "how uncontrollable by us forces move celestial bodies?" and "why apples fall?" is a totally misguided exercise, irrelevant for sustenance of life on this earth. What we need is "HOW APPLES GROW?" and "what controllable by us particle interactions inside the earth develop PLANTS to deliver and sustain living beings here through them?". This earth is the ONLY BODIES MANUFACTURING VESSEL IN THE ENTIRE KNOWN UNIVERSE and it has to be seen and analyzed as such, the Copernican blunder notwithstanding. All celestial motions must be derivable as functions of such particle interactions inside the earth, once we link them to interactions there and subsequent development of, and growth on, PLANTS, if (and only if) it ~ such explanstion ~ becomes necessary to sustain life function. It is immaterial whether the answers to a question is factually correct or wrong so long as the question itself is totally irrelevant for sustenance of life on this earth. Not realizing this fact is the reason why the human race in its entire history, from antiquity to present day, from Thales of Miletus to Stephen Hawking and still continuing, has failed to derive the mathematical model of even a single natural phenomenon that could PREDICT accurately when it may harm life function, let alone PREVENT such, or at the least guarantee that the laws science invents (yes!) won't cause new harms in addition, which in fact is the case at present, with WEAPONS MANUFACTURE being its raison de ètre and the widespread pollution it causes all over. The single purpose cum criterion of proof of all search for knowledge MUST be: PRACTICAL PREVENTION OF ALL EVIL (defined exhaustively as DISASTERS, PREDATIPN, DISEASES ~ which include all birth defects, all weapons manufacture, all violence ~ and DEATH), which would all be possible with the PLANT growth model. Dumping the baby with the bathwater would have been a better exercise compared to what Copernicus did: He dumped the baby (GEOCENTRISM) and drank the bathwater (the FAITH that uncontrollable by us celestial forces control all events in the universe IRRESPECTIVE OF WHAT WE OURSELVES DO IN IT ~ the fatalistically slavish faith science shares with all the conventional religions it is supposed to have discarded).

No big bang. Space within matter holds it together. This corresponds with the gravity within the universe. When matter in a black hole becomes so large that enough space within is drawn out, matter can no longer be held together and an expansion begins with the help of centrifugal force creating the flat universe. The universe being a galaxy made up of galaxies.

Don't worry, Keating, the universe isn't that much older, and it's just the ultra-lightweight cold (rather than the also existing hot, relativistic) SIDM (self-interacting, namely annihilating, dark matter, i.e. neutrinos and anti-neutrinos of in total 6 kinds) that probably in exponential decay manner over time illuminated the young galaxies far more (and also caused the re-ionization), and this light gets misinterpreted or mis-attributed to be sourced from baryonic matter.
