Because some dr.s think there God and feel like they don't have to give a full explanation, especially the older ones. They just talk to you for 10min and get your co-pay. This dr is different very through thow.

Thank you for this thorough explanation. I’ve known that I’ve had a pinched nerve in my neck and now I’m certain after you’ve explained the symptoms. Unfortunately the ortho surgeon I’ve seen is of no help. They want me to get an mri on my shoulder and my sister who is an mri tech looked at the order says it’s wrong and should be on my neck, not shoulder but the dr won’t listen or see me any further. I’m in so much pain and I also damaged my lower back by simply bending down to pick up something. I’m only 40 and have been working out and eating healthy consistently since I was 21 😢. It’s so frustrating.

I just went to medical school. Excellent presentation 👏 Learned more from this doctor. Then, I've learned from any doctor at Kaiser. Oops, did I say that! Well, it's factual. If doctors took the time. Like 15 minutes tops. To explain why we're having pain and where it's coming from, and the remedy. Then, most of us could leave the doctors office. Knowing exactly what's taking place within our bodies.💯

Thanks Dr. Brian Su for your explanation of the causes of referred pain originating from cervical spine problems. May I ask how old you are? Also, I’m very sorry to hear of your unfortunate issues. I recently began having symptoms of pain in trapezius and radiating tingling / pain in arm into hand. I’m very active with golf and working out (mail carrier on top of it) and I’m deathly afraid of this being a permanent thing. I couldn’t live that way. Or I should say won’t.

@BrianPex1 I'm a mail carrier too. 36 years old. About 3 weeks ago I started having numbness in my right finger and thumb along with pain through my tricep and shoulder blade. My nalc value plan is requiring 6 weeks of physical therapy before they will allow an mri. No help with any of the pills they've given me. I'm feeling stressed.

@@lebode Hope you are doing better. Ten years ago I was told of my C6 herniated disc. Five years ago another Neuro doc (we moved) did an X-ray and sent me to PT, which did nothing. Unfortunately, at the time of the X-ray, he did not tell me that the cause of my pain was because there was a total collapse of the disc and nerve compression. I am now, at age 50, getting prepared for a cervical foraminotomy with bone spur removal. Good luck to all who are in this boat... it is a little scary. Dr. Su is a great help. Above all, never stop advocating for yourself!!

In 2013 I had my C4-C6 fused due to stenosis accompanied by two bone spurs growing into the spinal cord. Now, I have a pinched nerve in the C7 along with what appears to be some degeneration of the disc. Even though Dr. Jacik Malik did a fantastic job, I fear for the worst, another operation. The first one was not bad but I dread the idea of getting another one to add to the fusion. I am hoping that PT works first. Great video Dr. Su! If I lived in CA I would seek you out for my physician.

I would like to say thank you for explaining this issue, discomfort or Pinch Nerve procedure. As for myself I referred to three different specialists and all three have determined that I have had a pinched nerve for a long time. The Nerve Specialist was the one that finally made the diagnosis and all the systems that you have explained I have. With me it is the C3 and C8, prior to my diagnosis I since have had 2 previous surgeries due to arthritis and carpotunel on my hand and wrist. Second was a displacement of the nerve in the elbow, both surgeries went very good no issues. Third surgery is going to be on my neck which is where my discomfort is and because of this I am starting to experience the same symptoms all over again.

What a stellar presentation! Dr. Su, you have made this easy to understand for the average, non- medical person. Unfortunately, since my only insurance is Medicaid, and I am unable to travel because of economic circumstances, you cannot be my Dr. I have multiple disc herniations - mostly cervical, but also lumbar... I also have spondylitis, stenosis, osteophytes, and ddd. I have more upcoming appointments with a neurosurgeon at the local spine center.... Hopefully there will be a good outcome. I am 59 years old and have tried to keep active, but it is getting harder.

Thank you so much for the explanation, I damaged my nerves, almost the whole left side of my body. It's been 2 years and still don't feel temperature on my left side, but I do feel numbness/needle points instead of the temperature. It's weird but I went to physical therapy for about 6 months and still feel that same numbness/needle points. So, I've given up on trying to regain full function, but at least it feels good to understand what happened to me. You're an awesome doctor, thank you for that.

January 2022 I had three level disc fusion…..I still have cervical Radiculopathy. I’ll be 65 in June. There is more to the story in that my pinched nerve issues were present for years with many symptoms and headaches for many many years!! No medical professionals ever suggested to have my neck checked out! What brought it all in perspective was a total rotator cuff tear that was repaired first. Recovery from the surgery was inhibited by the pinched nerve. Had We known, my neck/nerve issues should have been addressed before the rotator cuff. So from what you described my Radiculopathy is coming from C5-C8. I have scapula pain close to spine and also close to underarm, weak bicep and tricep, pain in my armpit, also runs down the back of my arm to my elbow to middle and ring fingers. I’ve had and EMG…results carpal tunnel in both wrists, with “mild” nerve damage effecting the triceps. I just had carpal tunnel repair and arthroplasty thumb suspension on my left hand. I’m a mess! The day I had the EMG, the severe nerve pain was not present. I am wondering if that affects the diagnosis?
@DrBrianSuTheSpineGuy Жыл бұрын
The EMG does not necessarily affect the prognosis.

I have moderate to severe pain in my shoulders arms and especially my hands. When I had an epidural injection between c6-7 I felt the burning tingle of the lidocaine all of the way from the top of my shoulders to my fingertips. The temporary relief I felt was complete, unfortunately it helped less each day especially after day 3 until after about a week my severe hand pain came back. While waiting for my surgery to be scheduled the pain has increased now to include neck pain. I was leaning toward disc replacement but I have decided on 2 level fusion. C5-7
