Your life will never be the same. the richness and diversity of life around the world is amazing. Makes you appreciate all life not just where you live or have lived. You are now not a citizen of Canada, You're a citizen of the world. When You return back "home", Your outlook on life and the world around you won't be the same. When I traveled throughout China, Eastern Asia and Mongolia, there were challenges, yes, but then I was humbled to a point that it's hard to discuss these experiences with people in the Western world who have so much. All the best Emilie!

That volcano hike was amazing! I had no idea what to expect in this video and then you got to the top and, oh my god, there’s a lava lake just 1,500 feet down! And it was cold where you were, when you weren’t at the edge trying to warm up that is. Stunning still photos of the lava lake and your silhouette. Well done. The mission you were carrying out was truly humanitarian. I’ve never been to nor experienced anything like that, abject poverty, children begging by the side of the road. I cannot imagine that experience NOT changing you - or anyone for that matter. The things we take for granted, they see as precious gifts - clean water, food, safety, schools. Thank you for sharing Emilie!

Such a beautiful lady, beautiful personality, and a pilot, what an absolute win this was. Thank you for sharing this amazing journey. I am in the U.S. Navy and have seen some countries very similar to the DRC, it definitely changes you. It's crazy how many things we take for granted because they are right around the corner, or a google search away and yet in places like the DRC you have kids who don't even know if they are going to eat that day. I really puts things in perspective. Keep up this fantastic content, it was such an amazing story, I feel like I was there with you. Keep up that fantastic smile also, it's sensational :)

New subscriber who is really enjoying your videos. You have a great on camera presence and it seems so natural for you. I was stationed in Hawaii for three years before heading over to Vietnam and we often hiked around Kiluaea volcano on the Big Island. On my way to Vietnam I went thru Jungle School in Panama and saw how poor many of the folks were and add to that over 27 years in the Army, saw the same thing in Haiti, Turkey and many other nations which makes me thank the Good Lord that I was born in the USA. It shows you have a good heart to be willing to go somewhere to help folks you do not know. I have been blessed to have done that more than once myself. Keep up the good work ma'am and God bless.

Emilie, that's an amazing feet of accomplishment! to be able to climb that volcano! Those were great pictures too! I climbed a mountain just yesterday that looks like it was an old volcano (one side has features that resemble a crater), it's a Tertiary Rhyolitic Volcanic Intrusion, the summit is 8150', but it's nothing like the one you climbed...lol Those are touching and very precious life lessons that you've observed, and about the connections and the relationships that developed from your ventures, thanks for sharing that! I feel that traveling is one of the greatest teachers, maybe it should be a requirement for everyone, so we can learn about what's really important in this life, and also to learn to have sympathy and compassion for our fellow man. I love that you're not so superficial, I've learned through this video (as I suspected from my first impression) that there's a genuine heart of benevolence and compassion within you. I'm really impressed Emilie! What a rarity! It's so lacking in our world! Thank you! You're a beautiful soul and a breath of fresh air!

Flying in an environment devoid of the ATC and multiple navaids while experiencing rapid weather changes helps to really build your skills as a pilot and critical thinker. You develop the ability to read the little, subtle changes in your environment; and apply them to your piloting actions as required. Many pilots today need this experience to hone their stick and rudder skills. You will carry those skills forward forever. Best wishes to you, Emilie.

I have recently been watching videos on most dangerous roads in the world. The series is titled "Deadliest Roads" and mostly features roads in African countries. But It also tells stories of individuals and families about their tough routines and difficulties in life. Only after watching that series makes us realise how privileged and blessed we are as compared to those poor and deprived people. there is no doubt that people in that part of the world live in most inhuman conditions. It really feels like our necessities are their luxuries. So that is really a great lesson from your tour of Africa as well. Time well spent.

Really impressive and amazing jouney from the perspective of a flight captain. The important bits are to visit places and to have a close contact with local people is priceless. This shows how important is to understand culture, way of living, language barrier and losing the comfort of own home and realise how lucky we are living in the western world. It breaks my heart when you see the differences. Emilie ur are a kind hearted person, down to earth and a sociable kind human being. You couldn't have to go through all the hardships but you did It in the most innovative way. You have a successful career but still thinking of others. Wish everyone follow your suit then perhaps some difference can be made. Many people just go and enjoy themselves ; you did both by not only being adventurous but to have that important human contact be humble appreciate what we have and HOW poor people in Africa suffer for just basic amenities they are entitled to at least but the contrary to. Hope all of us follow ur suite and pass the message of humanity in such a beautiful way. Waiting to hear more from you really enjoying every single bits.

Agree with how experience of circumstantial differences can change your view of life. In the past I have visited places like Tangiers in Morocco, and New Delhi in India, and despite neither of these being particularly poor when compared with other areas of their respective countries, the evidence of poverty and suffering when viewd through a westerner's eyes is still humbling and thought provoking.

Great work, my friend. I agree, Bamako in that time period would have been too risky. As far as volcanoes, my experience has very little comparison but driving from the valley on Maui to the top of Haleakala was very much worth it. Roughly 20 feet ASL to being above 10000 feet was interesting for sure. I have never seen a place where the stark difference in what amount of material goods equates to happiness to what we have in the US or Canada. As a very highly empathic person, that would effect me quite a lot. Introspective thinking would result in a lot of tears for sure. All in all, great job. ☺️proud Patreon☺️

I have hikes Mt. Shasta and Mt. St. Helens, but the toughest hike I've done was from rim to river to rim at the Grand Canyon. It took me a lot longer than I expected and my friends called the rangers. The guy sent to find me was really pissed off, expecting to find me by the river. Turned out he was happy to find me 1/2 mile from the rim. He was really surprised an amputee had completed the hike.

Another example of nature at its finest, it is amazing how the intense heat of the lava and the exposire of the volcano's peak can come together to form an environment that is both hot and cold at the same time! I got to see a few volcanoes in the early 2000s when I was on a family holiday in Lanzarote, we went on a guided tour where we all sat on the back of camels that were roped together and my camel stumbled and almost fell down the slope (fun times); but it was a brilliant experience. The tour guide would pour water into geysers to set them off and watch the more timid tourists jump a mile. Did you have to be the pilot on your way back, or do you just not sleep well on planes?
@Pilotemilie4 жыл бұрын
That's so cool - Lanzarote!! Must have been a dream. The aircraft that bring us overseas are much much larger planes - the Dash 8 would have to make numerous stops & would take a week to do so!
@Zaephrax4 жыл бұрын
That makes sense, hadn't quite thought of how much shorter the dash 8's range was compared to the larger aircraft, though a week of near-continuous flying sounds like many pilots' dream (maybe not so much while being as tired as you were)

Watched the episodes with interest. DRC not far from my country, Kenya. But I feel your observations about culture change. Mine was the opposite direction - Kenya to Canada. I experienced affluent society that changed my perspectives about human development.

It was great! see you!

Africa is truly fantastic, if you ever have a chance to fly in Kenya, you must go for it, such a beautiful country. Fly for some of the upmarket game lodges! South Afric is also a stunning country! All the best.

Love DRC, my wife and I recently moved back to the US from Kinshasa but my wife has spent a decent amount of time in all of the places that you mentioned flying to in these episodes (flying on UN planes to those places as well). Our dream is to be based in Goma or Bukavu and I will hopefully be able to fly in that area. Great to see and here about familiar sights.

I spent my career indoors, behind a desk regretfully. Once you have your own family it’s really difficult to change jobs. Next life I’m going into aviation. I do enjoy how you are living your life. More please.
