Who doesn't like a good space creepypasta? I like a good space creepypasta! Nice narration (i mean literary - the Doctor'a voice was excellent, too, but that's a given), I like how matter-of-fact it was, gave the story a cold, desolate, anty-utopian atmosphere. Left me feeling uneasy. Great stuff!

And I've done a couple of short stories when I was younger and then as I got into late teens to late twenties mostly just punk songs about societal commentary and things of the nature that normally punk and other subgenres say in lyrical format, and now I've tried to fall back into creating stories again that are original instead of the regurgitated trash in theaters lol. So I'm going to strive to create something postable and the Doctors subreddit!

@@KP-vy9ro I often get inspiration for stories from old song lyrics - usually just the chorus or a stanza. I was in the army in the 80's - my 2nd hitch was with the honor guard in Washington, DC - It's when Georgetown was a hot scene - yet out of all the clubs, my favourite was "Poseur's" - in a basement a block or two from the "Exorcist Stairs". It wasn't a place to chase girls but just to listen to the music and converse within the then fading Punk Scene. I spent plenty of time in the girls or fights clubs, but I enjoyed my time the most, literally underground, chatting with strangers whom most people would avoid on the sidewalk... out of ignorance. Uurrrrgh... to be young...

It can vary due to the elliptical nature of orbits, but the story grew from the initial broken message and the intriguing lag... 🤔 how odd to have a conversation with half an hour between sending and receiving. I laid breadcrumbs that the A.I. had gone "Hal", that a nation or terror group was the culprit, or that a mysterious 3rd party was involved... I have one I started about 30 years ago that fits well with the theme.

When I was young and able to Read a lot of sci fi by the top Writers of the day like Arthur C Clarke You continue this tradition on Good writing and story telling Based on science and that Surprise twist because there Is a lot we have yet to learn About space and everything is Possible

@@geoffreytotton1983 I like many genres but Sci-Fi - expecially alternate history is my favorite... depending on the author. I used to love the military versions: Gordon R. Dickinson, Jerry Pournelle, David Drake... plus all the old stuff, Jules Verne, Edgar Rice Burroughs... I've finally started to let go of my library but I will have some books until I die (I'll take them with me if I can, just in case I get stuck with an Afterlife). This story is a sideline of a bigger tale. It cmae about from the title... I was reading an article about the time it takes to send a transmission back and forth between Earth and Mars... I wondered what would happen in that intervening time. thumb twiddling or sweaty fear incudced by isolation and being severed from resources and human contact. I'll continue for as long as I'm able - likely one day someone will discover my rotting carcass either at the keyboard or out in the woods : )

Wait, so the redeemable colonists just willingly killed the irredeemable? Without even questioning *why* they were irredeemable? That's the only part of this story that does not make any sense. They seemed adamantly against it then all a sudden they are for it? Extremely confusing. Great story otherwise, but I can't wrap my head around the character motivations behind just falling in with the culling. We never got an explanation why. That's quite a huge gaping plot hole. I would be interested in a light novel rewrite of this, as it has a lot of potential for a longer running story, and there are many questions left unanswered. Though that may be the intention, I can't help but feel like too many questions are left deliberately unanswered to the degree that it kind of hampers the plot a little. It could easily be written that these questions answered could lead to other queries unfulfilled, whilst filling in the necessary gaps to make the plot more consistent between the characters themselves, but leaving just enough to maintain the mystique of the situation. Greatly enjoyed listening to this despite my complaints. Your voice is quite soothing and I must admit I fell asleep on my first listen. Upon my second listen I had so many ideas for where this story could go from here. But alas, most of these great novella and longer form creepypasta never get follow ups or extended writes. We hope to see this writer return for more sci-fi goodness. Thanks for the tale Dr. Creepen.

There is more to tell - the "Martians" did the culling, there was no choice by the "Redeemables" except whther to become Martians or not. The Martian socienty is pretty ruthless. Working on a different set of tales that will bring them back around... the entire mess may one day make it into a novel, so that itr will be more clear - I only hinted at it, but there is a definite relationship to the Martians and the people of Ancient Earth. I appreciate the "complaints" (I see them as pointers) - I learn from comments likes yours that are detailed and offer cogent thoughts, so, thank you! : )
