Playing the Harmonic Series on a Trombone and French Horn

During the Spring 2021 semester, I'm teaching a graduate course on the Acoustics of Musical Instruments from my home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Because I don't have easy access to equipment in my campus laboratory for classroom demonstrations, I am creating a number of video demonstrations to illustrate some of the concepts that we will be discussing in detail (using lots of fun physics and math) in our lectures. In this video, I'm demonstrating how the harmonic series for an open-open pipe may be played on the Trombone and Horn.

Not only are the higher partials closely clustered, but each one takes a great deal of physical effort. Horn is the only brass instrument I play - perhaps it’s the same for the rest, but trumpets certainly seem more comfortable up there.
